He tweeted "Her", which explicitly tells us it's a deliberate imitation of Scarlett's voice in that movie. And he tried to negotiate licencing her famous voice, which she rejected.

So it's more than just a coincidence, it's deliberate bad faith behaviour. Legally you can't misrepresent a product as being from a famous person when it wasn't, and he very much did that. I guess he was hoping she'd give in and accept the licensing agreement post-facto. But instead it looks he's in legal deep water now.

zik ,

It was explicitly represented as her voice when he tweeted "Her" in relation to the product, referencing a movie which she voiced. It's not a legal grey area in the US. He sank his own ship here.

zik ,

Celebrities get wide latitude to protect themselves from imitators. Impressionists can do "satire" etc. but this isn't that. It's explicitly a reference to her voice in the movie, and as such she's protected by law from them going around her and hiring someone else to imitate her.

When I lived in Switzerland I literally used a bike to haul furniture (flat packed). Honestly it's easier than you might imagine.

I brought a big tv home on my bike too. It's quite achievable, if awkward.

But a cargo bike would have been a better choice than my conventional bike.

Meanwhile Mercedes has already reached level 3.

All this tells me is that they have a great PR department.

I remember many years ago New Scientist magazine did a review study of many different alternative medicine techniques and found that the only benefits they provided were placebo effect.

Except acupuncture. That was the only one with an effect greater than placebo.

zik ,

Ah, so it's a USA specific joke. Gotcha.

And then there's the sad story of Melbourne's Waverley Park, a large stadium which they built in an area with no decent public transport. What happens when you build Melbourne's largest stadium with >100,000 capacity, and also a large but inadequate 25,000 car spots and no usable public transport?

It was never filled since they simply couldn't get enough people to it. Also even then it apparently took hours just to get out of the parking lot after a game. It ended up failing as a stadium and being converted into housing years later.

It's not just EVs - most new cars have these tracking devices where they sell your data to your insurance company to be used against you.

zik ,

They have devices installed which include GPS and an accelerometer. They report back to base via a cellular connection when you drive erratically or aggressively etc.

Despite claims to the contrary, PLA does usually break down into microplastics. It's possible that under certain conditions (such as those found in industrial composters) those microplastics might be broken down into starches and consumed by bacteria, but most teabags will just end up in landfill and won't break down beyond microplastics.

zik ,

They don't break down completely in landfill. They just turn into microplastics.

zik ,

You appear to be arguing that even if microplastics are present in the environment it's not a problem. That's a brave stance to take given the wealth of information to the contrary.

Even if they did break down it's bad. Plastics have additives in them which are used to improve their material properties. These additives include BPA and PFAS (and similar). We know that these compounds cause problems in humans and the environment. So if they were "easily digestible by the body" that would absolutely be a big problem.

There's no world in which "nothing will be harmed" by plastic decaying. Some people even argue that conventional plastics are less dangerous in landfill than bioplastics because at least they don't release dangerous by-products like microplastics or "forever chemicals".

ISO uses a weird separator 'T' between the time and the date. eg. 2018-04-01T15:20:15.000-0700

RFC3339 can have a space instead which is a bit more readable: eg. 2020-12-09 16:09:53+00:00

Honestly one of the more probable claims I've seen about rust.

The ESP32s are nice chips, but the STM32s are also really nice to work with and will work fine for this task. Changing to an ESP32 wouldn't make any real difference to the user so the choice is moot really.

I've designed products around both CPUs and they're both pretty nice. The STM32 has somewhat better documentation, has cleaner low power modes and is a bit simpler when delving into the nitty gritty details. The ESP is more powerful and has some nice if complex features but I don't like its low power handling as much.

Overall I think I'd choose the STM32 for this task since it's a little easier to make small, battery powered devices with it.

zik ,

The STM32WB55 in the flipper has a versatile wireless peripheral built in which can be used to implement various protocols including Bluetooth, zigbee, etc.. Support for I2C, I2S and CAN is pretty standard stuff - the ESP32 is nothing special in these respects.

Maybe they chose the STM32WB55 because its wireless support is more flexible than the ESP32 and allows them to implement a wider variety of protocols? Or possibly just better documented, giving them the chance to do things they can't on the ESP32? I haven't compared the inner workings of the two chips' wireless support so I can't say for sure.

My sister had a friend who lived in a lesbian community. Oh my God the drama. I heard about it third hand and it was wild the number of crazy public screaming matches that happened and people who couldn't ever be in the same room as other people etc.

    "Men is too headache"?

Try putting a bunch of women together and see what happens.

    zik ,

It was actually a small town which was known for its lesbian community. ie. Just a place with a larger than normal number of lesbian living there. The town was known for being lesbian aware and lesbian friendly in general - which isn't something you can say of everywhere.

    zik ,

Not if you're planning on buying an EV

    zik ,

Also, humiliating someone in front of the whole LKML list by calling their code garbage isn't constructive. It's the reason why a lot of people take one look at that toxic cesspit and walk the other way.

    zik ,

It's almost like people are incapable of comprehending that all types of pollution are important, not just one or the other. Exhaust emissions are bad. Tyre pollution is also bad. Reducing one is a good step. Reducing both would be even better.
