pntha , to Anarchism and Social Ecology in There’s No Liberty Under Fascism and No Alternative In Trump

Both Trump and the Libertarian Party try and brand themselves as an alternative to the status-quo, in the hopes of attracting dissatisfied voters angry at the growing cost of living, the current war, and the immiseration of everyday life for working-class people.

my hot take on the booing is that it was staged to splash the libertarian brand across all major media sites to scoop up these very votes the article is talking about; at such a crucial time before the election, we’re seeing Biden fail to inspire the masses—and, frankly, his age—and Trump continuously failing as a the successful, antiestablishment businessman he convinced many he was in 2016. isn’t the alt-right’s strategy for this election to sway votes away from Biden; no consideration for where they land, left or right, just as long as Biden doesn’t land them?

I’m an anarchocommunist in a rural US area..

And it’s so hard to get people to join us here.. but today I learned that if you can build rapport and then treat project 2025 as absolute normal shit they should already be aware of, you can get people to almost completely swap allegiance without doing a lot because most rural conservatives don’t know about project 2025.. and how it impacts them.

That's the coalition of think tanks dedicated to enhancing the executive branch with dictatorial powers, right?

BubbleMonkey ,
@BubbleMonkey@slrpnk.net avatar

Correct. And it’s important enough that there are tons of pages about it (for example, Wikipedia https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_2025) so all that needs to be done is “oh, you haven’t heard about it? Well when you get a chance you should look it up, do your own research you know, don’t take my word for it.”

There are a lot of days that this genocide, and the complete unwillingness of our government to treat it as such, leaves me incredibly depressed and angry. Only seeing the support that young people are giving, and the spread of anti-settler colonialism and anti-capitalism awareness among young people, gives me a shred of hope.

I listened to this episode this morning, it was quite good.

I really like it when there is a focus on non-militant antifascsim. The mainstream media painted antifascism as just going out in bloc and fistfighting nazis, hurling rocks at the police, and general violence. Seeing everyday antifascism done by your average person is super important, especially with the vilification of antifa in the mainstream.

Here's the synopsis from the site (since it's a podcast I don't feel bad posting this here):

In this episode of the It’s Going Down podcast, we speak with members of Safe Redlands Schools (SRS), a group of antifascist moms who have come together to push back against far-Right and fascist groups attempting to advance an authoritarian agenda in the Southern California area, specifically in local school districts.

During our discussion, we talk about how these groups, which include far-Right street gangs like the Proud Boys, grew out of far-Right conspiracy theories and reaction to COVID-19 lockdowns, pivoting quickly to opposing “Critical Race Theory” and embracing a politics of gender fascism. As far-Right militants set their sites on the schools boards as a new terrain of confrontation, violence erupted at various meetings, with parents and their children often caught in the middle between politicians, out of town grifters, and their followers in violent far-Right organizations.

Members of SRS map out how they have built a network of concerned parents across their region, the wide variety of organizing that they engage in within their communities against the far-Right, and why they made the important decision to openly label themselves as “anti-fascist.”

Huh? I dont really understand what you mean and dont really see the connection with the text.

In case you want to debate anarchist ideas or have questions about anarchism, please make that more clear.

Edit: Maybe I get what you mean and I dont agree. When a popular movement manages to abolish the state / goverment, why would pro Cartel gangs be able to just take over? Its not like the popular movement that was able to defeat the state just stops existing.

This seems to be a point a lot of people struggle to grasp while discussing theory. Reality isn't a turn-based game.

I'm having a hard time imagining how the terminology 'anti-racist skinheads' makes sense. Isn't that some kind of oxymoron?

Skinhead, by it's definition is a slang term for white supremacy right? White supremacy is racist, therefore skinheads=racist, right?

    Am I missing something?

    ThatFembyWho ,

Yes, you are missing something kinda important.

Skinheads were not originally associated with racism, it was a working-class counterculture movement. In fact it was quite diverse in its influences. I would argue it still is.

Only later did a far-right subset emerge and unfortunately that is what people associate with the term "skinheads" because they caused the most trouble.

    technomad ,

    Thanks for the explanation.

It's a shame that is what ended up sticking then, and that the terminology couldn't have been associated with something better. In my mind, it's impossible to think of them in any other context. That is the default definition that I have.

    taanegl ,

It's what fascist racists do. They co-opt and appropriate everything. The Nazis pretended to be socialist, the Klu Klux Klan just copy pasted bits and pieces of various different European cultures, heck even country had some edge and humanity to it, until it got homogenised by yee olde nationalism.

Skinheads need to come back if you ask me. Same clothes, same haircut, same culture, just as a "fuck you" to whatever status quo you live by. People pretending they're so different, when really everybody is the same.

That was the point to begin with.

    guillem ,
    @guillem@aussie.zone avatar

It's has practically become that by definition because the far right successfully appropriated the skinhead aesthetics. Or almost. Look into the SHARP.

    Am I missing something?

    yes:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skinhead

    TL;DR:

A skinhead or skin is a member of a subculture that originated among working-class youths in London, England, in the 1960s. It soon spread to other parts of the United Kingdom, with a second working-class skinhead movement emerging worldwide in the late 1970s. Motivated by social alienation and working-class solidarity, skinheads are defined by their close-cropped or shaven heads and working-class clothing such as Dr. Martens and steel toe work boots, braces, high rise and varying length straight-leg jeans, and button-down collar shirts, usually slim fitting in check or plain. The movement reached a peak at the end of the 1960s, experienced a revival in the 1980s, and, since then, has endured in multiple contexts worldwide.
