how can something be so courageous and yet so true (slrpnk.net)

Edit: Jesus Christ, people. If you buy a $150 Thinkpad made by slave labor instead of a $1,200 MacBook made by slave labor, you're still supporting a capitalist economy based on slave labor. We all do. We have no choice. The number of smug liberals in the comments saying "well I buy a cheap used laptop" or "well I buy coffee...

ThatFembyWho ,

... or maybe she thought it's an edgy sticker and fits her style?

Idk. But if you really were serious about smashing capitalism, it's kinda irrelevant how much stuff you buy, there's a lot of groundwork to be done, organizing and educating. For all we know, that may be what she's doing in that photo.

If she dressed in rags, owned nothing and was homeless, I fail to see how that would accomplish anything more.

Although I prefer to support local businesses, not a fan of massive corporate chains. My city has dozens of local coffee shops that serve fair trade products. I can walk to a half dozen of them, whether or not I bring my ancient 2011 laptop. But I do love my principles being questioned by smug internet randos so 🖕

ThatFembyWho ,

Why would anyone hate that? To me it sounds like a utopia. I just had to buy new tires for my car @#$%*!

ThatFembyWho ,

Lmao I can't even imagine what crazy surrealist shit I'd come up with in my sleep.

<meeting>

"So, fembywho, I believe you worked last night, any progress you would like to share?"

"Ahem. Yes, uh. cough I searched for the lost spirit of my old acquaintance V from high school who bravely sacrificed herself for the good of humanity, and now is our only help against the alien menace. My companions thought her temple would be the most likely place to search, but I didn't expect to find anything. Her spirit is hiding somewhere only I can find, but I haven't been able to access that knowledge. I have seen visions and flown across many lands."

"Excellent progress. Keep us informed."

ThatFembyWho ,

Why stop there? Shut it all down. Pull the plug.

ThatFembyWho ,

I'm taking note of all the prominent individuals and organizations which chose to remain on the fascist platform and thus implicitly support it.

My major accomplishment for the day: upvoting each ":3" comment. Now I can rest.

    ThatFembyWho ,

Trust me, you don't want Indiana. You really don't.

If it comes down to it, carve out the lakeside and discard the rest. Keep the dunes and miss the crazy racist Christo-fascists...

    ThatFembyWho ,

Well the police can declare an unlawful assembly at any time for any reason, which tends to stir up even peaceful crowds. Not to mention being face to face with militarized thugs in riot gear, drones, helicopters, armored vehicles, mounted police, tear gas and "non-lethal" rounds. If I had a gas cannister lobbed at me, why wouldn't I toss it right back. Fuck em. ACAB.

You might have no intention of causing trouble, but still get rounded up. Happened almost every day in my city for several months during BLM protests. Mass arrests of people in the wrong place at the wrong time. The countless live streamed videos don't lie, each protest was non-violent until police agitated the crowd.

I don't go looking for trouble but I have my limits just like anyone else.

Concerned about microplastics? Research shows one of the biggest sources is car tyres

A lot of the emphasis on reducing microplastics has focussed on things like plastic bags, clothing, and food packaging.

But there's a growing body of research that shows one of the biggest culprits by far is car tyres.

It's increasingly clear that we simply cannot solve the issue of microplastics in the environment while still using tyres — even with electric-powered cars.

"Tyre wear stands out as a major source of microplastic pollution. Globally, each person is responsible for around 1kg of microplastic pollution from tyre wear released into the environment on average each year – with even higher rates observed in developed nations.

"It is estimated that between 8% and 40% of these particles find their way into surface waters such as the sea, rivers and lakes through runoff from road surfaces, wastewater discharge or even through airborne transport.

"However, tyre wear microplastics have been largely overlooked as a microplastic pollutant. Their dark colour makes them difficult to detect, so these particles can’t be identified using the traditional spectroscopy methods used to identify other more colourful plastic polymers."

    https://theconversation.com/check-your-tyres-you-might-be-adding-unnecessary-microplastics-to-the-environment-205612#:~:text=Tyre%20wear%20stands%20out%20as,rates%20observed%20in%20developed%20nations.

"Microplastic pollution has polluted the entire planet, from Arctic snow and Alpine soils to the deepest oceans. The particles can harbour toxic chemicals and harmful microbes and are known to harm some marine creatures. People are also known to consume them via food and water, and to breathe them, But the impact on human health is not yet known.

"“Roads are a very significant source of microplastics to remote areas, including the oceans,” said Andreas Stohl, from the Norwegian Institute for Air Research, who led the research. He said an average tyre loses 4kg during its lifetime. “It’s such a huge amount of plastic compared to, say, clothes,” whose fibres are commonly found in rivers, Stohl said. “You will not lose kilograms of plastic from your clothing.”"

    https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/jul/14/car-tyres-are-major-source-of-ocean-microplastics-study

"Microplastics are of increasing concern in the environment [1, 2]. Tire wear is estimated to be one of the largest sources of microplastics entering the aquatic environment [3,4,5,6,7]. The mechanical abrasion of car tires by the road surface forms tire wear particles (TWP) [8] and/or tire and road wear particles (TRWP), consisting of a complex mixture of rubber, with both embedded asphalt and minerals from the pavement [9]."

    Depressing.

It occurred to me last week, humanity has always feared nuclear weapons. People warned of the extinction of humanity should they see widespread use. But all this time we've been happily consuming and discarding something more subtle, but poisonous to life. And it's literally everywhere.

All that shit is so real and it hurts so FUCKING bad. I hate being othered. I hate being the lone exception to inclusivity, diversity and tolerance. I have never once harmed so much as a hair on a woman's (or man's) head. But I'm dangerous and not trustworthy?! Fuck that noise.

Also the sex part is basically my partner and I:

    NSFW

My partner cums every time we fuck (PIV). It takes about 3 minutes and then game over.

While I'm lying there thinking about how I'm still horny and unfulfilled, my partner is already off washing, getting dressed, and ready to leave (we don't live together).

Since I started HRT three years ago, it hurts to have sex like we used to. I have mentioned this numerous times, but it's "the only way" my partner can get off, apparently. I have mentioned that I need more time, more attention, more patience.

My partner loves and appreciates my long hair, my babysoft smooth skin, my perky tits, my ass, my slender frame, and my dick. But not enough to take the time to properly foreplay or focus on my needs. I've even done what other women do: fake orgasms so they feel better about their self :/

It continues to drive a wedge between us, because I need more, and I am not getting it from my partner. I crave affection, touch, and intimacy. I need to be held, maybe for hours.

I feel like I should start charging people for orgasms, because I don't get anything else out of the exchange.

OMG! Elon you should totally direct your minions of big brain programmers to create a new OS... XOS? About 6 months oughta be enough time to crank that out.

    ThatFembyWho ,

    It's OK to be "disconnected."

Especially if "connected" implies dependency on one corporation which has shown general disregard for its customers' privacy and mental health.

I don't use Whatsapp, FB, Instagram, snapchat, google, and somehow manage to make my way through the world.

Believe it or not plenty of people still interact in meatspace, limited as it is.

Super relatable. I never realized why I hated clothes shopping for the first 30 years of my life. I dreaded it, nothing ever looked good to me. All completely uninspiring.*

Then I found women's clothes, then my egg cracked.

You know what I hate now? My very limited monies to actually buy all the cute feminine clothing I want. I'm in a debt from a spree I went on a few months ago x.x

    * Except suits. Call me crazy but I love women in suits. Formal attire looks so much better on them. I'm totally mixing a bit of shirts, ties, jackets and such into my everyday look, albeit feminine cuts.

    ThatFembyWho ,

Hang in thereeee! Hopefully you'll be able to get your own clothes soon. Having cute outfits is such a euphoria booster.

    You are waaaay overthinking this.

It's a crossover meme from trans/gender-nonconforming spaces. We have ways of finding humor in what is often an frightening and deadly serious situation (being trans in this world).

One of the in-jokes we have that I saw quite a bit on reddit, is that especially trans women and femboys "are all programmers or IT people" and being technical minded, use Linux. (I'm a trans woman who uses Fedora... Hi)

I think there is also the political and economic association that comes with FOSS -- it's a sort of disruption of the norm in capitalism, which is to have proprietary secrets as a store of value. FOSS challenges the notion that the fruits of labor should be privitized. In that sense it's a radical movement, always has been, even if it has been adopted by the world at large.

Trans folk are as a rule, politically left-leaning, it seems these days we must be to exist, and so FOSS like Linux naturally appeals to the community.

Obviously there are going to be many non-technical trans people, and tech trans people alike who use proprietary OSes; and conversely most Linux users aren't trans or GNC. The meme isn't meant to be taken literally or to change anyone's beliefs or actions.

    ThatFembyWho ,

It's OK to personally "not understand" a popular meme (400 updoots at last count). Create and vote for content you really understand.

As a trans woman who exclusively uses Linux and 90% FOSS, avid wearer of thigh highs and skirts, it makes perfect sense.

    Something for all of us.

    ThatFembyWho ,

    Heyy ☺️

    ThatFembyWho ,

Yes, you are missing something kinda important.

Skinheads were not originally associated with racism, it was a working-class counterculture movement. In fact it was quite diverse in its influences. I would argue it still is.

Only later did a far-right subset emerge and unfortunately that is what people associate with the term "skinheads" because they caused the most trouble.

    ThatFembyWho ,

Not as strange or pointless as it might seem at first glance, I'm reminded of this article from years ago comparing the experience of a modern phone with the old handsets: https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2015/08/why-people-hate-making-phone-calls/401114/

What does Gen Z suffer from even more than the rest of us? Loneliness, isolation. So using a phone that is designed with physical comfort foremost is a way of reclaiming a sense of social connection and physical touch ("reach out and touch someone"), even when distances between callers are great. And touching the cord, again, a way of feeling the connection with the other person, which in a world of wireless devices isn't possible -- there's nothing there but empty space. It's not just about twirling the cord.

This isn't to suggest there are no benefits to smartphones, and others here suggest earbuds to improve call quality and ergonomics. But the fact is modern smartphones are designed to do many things OK-ish in compromise, but nothing so well as the other devices they replace (phones, TVs, calculators - remember those?, flashlights, keyboards, etc etc.)

    ThatFembyWho ,

Oh yes, my phone is nearly impossible to use as a camera, between the inherently awkward shape, the case, and the long processing delay. Does it work? Yes. But it's not much fun. I love the ergonomic grip(s) of my DSLR and how every button and dial is in a natural position.

That's another thing we miss, plain old tactile feedback of buttons, dials, sliders, switches.

    ThatFembyWho ,

Haha I'm driving my 13-year-old car like, what you all don't have buttons?!

    ThatFembyWho ,

Basically yes. Enby here, anyone who finds me attractive is instantly, irrevocably, and fabulously gay.

That's absolutely right and it's a good principle to live by. I have a long way to go, but my core moral is similar: if I can't try to help someone, then at least I don't have to try to harm them. This "passive" alternative is sometimes obscured by false dichotomies, that every choice must be divided between positive or negative.

    ThatFembyWho ,

    Be born into the 1%

    Oh, sorry

    ThatFembyWho ,

Have you seen the price of boots these days? More like pull yourself up by your dirty socks (cost probably $15 to wash) and then get kicked out of any building you walk into for being in your socks then go find a hole somewhere without anti-homeless spikes to crawl into and die then your next of kin get the outrageous bill for the ambulance that was called, the cycle repeats and basically everything will be fine haha!
