Darorad ,

Eh, even then it's a gold mine of information on you if your PC ever gets a virus or stolen.

Encryption would help, but not for all scenarios.

Darorad ,

Nah, it's been a famine since mid January or mid March depending on what source you use

Hey Battery, are you OK? You've been saying 0% for 15 min now. (lemmy.world)

Running a Gigabyte U4UD, been having battery problems for months now, and the battery health only reports 50% capacity. Started playing Battlefront and got distracted and saw my battery looks like this now. Been doing this for 15 min, so either my battery is magical... or the Clevo design is flawed. Seeing how long she goes for...

Darorad ,

That just guarantees tech support lol

Darorad ,

That was probably Atlas, it disables a bunch of security features as part of debloating, so I wouldn't recommend it unless it's an offline device

Darorad ,

Yeah, your overall point is 100% correct and well made. Just a few things that don't really matter to an end user they were complaining about

Darorad ,

Eh, it depends how you define Linux. Android uses a modified Linux kernel, but most of what's above that is different. By the point you're at the application layer they're basically completely incompatible.

Is it technically Linux? Yeah but it's so different from a user's perspective it's best to treat them as separate imo.

Darorad ,

Android introduces far more incompatibilities, and the kernel mods are more impactful than the vast majority of other systems. Userspace incompatibilities are basically negligable for most distros.

It's differences are substantial enough that I think it makes sense to treat it as a separate os.

Darorad ,

Yeah, cause people are just hooking stuff up to chatbots and expecting it to do everyrhing instead of actually building tools for the job they need

Darorad ,

Yeah, I would switch off, but it just doesn't seem worth the effort for something I rarely interact with.

Darorad ,

I mean most of it works for every distro, not just arch.

Darorad ,

iirc, asahi is still not super stable and is very much still in development

Darorad ,

Good to hear :) sounds like its made a lot of peogress since I last looked at it

Darorad ,

Just fyi, this links to the end of the video

Darorad ,

Same, I was a fan for a while despite them not being great about accuracy, it was entertaining tech-themed content that I knew not to trust for anything serious. Them recommending a custom windows rom that disabled any anti-virus and blocked security updates was when I completely wrote them off. And their excuse was "we showed some of the issues on screen for like 1/2 a second, that's enough" and refused to acknowledge anyone's concerns were valid.

Then later it got way worse when it turned out they had issues with serial harassment and stole and auctioned off prototype hardware.

Darorad OP ,

Minneapolis is pretty nice, though not the economic powerhouse of new york

Darorad OP ,

Yeah, it's like 1/3 the size of used to be, and there's also toxic dust that'll give a bunch of cancer when the Republicans refuse to do anything about it in like 5 years.

Darorad OP ,

Ah, but those are in the northwest territories, not a state or province

It could also have been a ghost listing, but yeah, I'm baffled they aren't profitable

    Darorad ,

Mozilla doesn't have the sort of leverage to make an impact by abandoning apple devices. Firefox has an incredibly low market share and this could push people to other browsers. People tend to use the same browser for stuff like bookmark and password syncing, so abandoning ios could have larger consequences.

    Darorad ,

Oh yeah generally I'd agree, with firefox I just think it'd be better to do what will push the fewest people away as long as it's possible to maintain development.

    Darorad ,

Probably didn't see them, Epic's already suing again because of their compliance plan.

    Darorad ,

I guess it would work, as long as you're using an up to date zip implementation with AES-256 encryption. I guess my question would be why bother? Being compressed doesn't add any real additional benefit, since just using text shouldn't take up much space.

Is recommend just using an actual password manager for convenience, since you aren't really gaining any security by only storing your passwords in a file.

    Darorad ,

For replacing dlss, fsr works well and you can use it on games that don't support it using gamescope.

    Darorad ,

Gamescope's a compositor made by valve that you can install and add as a launch argument to games. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Gamescope

Yeah, fsr's basically the same thing as dlss, it's a bit worse but it's pretty close. You can also use it on nvdia cards.

    Darorad ,

I pretty much only have issues with ea stuff. I was playing it takes two, and it was like 50/50 if it would work for me. It always worked for my friend on windows.

    Darorad OP ,

Thankfully valve does, linux gaming's gotten to a really great state in the last few years.
