BassTurd ,

Sounds like something an irresponsible wreckless chode would do. I hope you're just kidding because I wouldn't want you to be an irresponsible wreckless chode.

BassTurd ,

The entire second to last sent where you listed being wreckless and then ignoring that stop lights aren't in fact stop signs. Running red lights is very chode-like, speeding to get through yellows is wreckless, and both are irresponsible.

BassTurd ,

Some multiplayer, but not all. Not that that makes it perfect, but I've had minimal issues with multiplayer games. I do not play popular FPS games where anti cheat software is prevalent, so that's mostly why. I did get Ghost of Tsushima the other day, and that is not compatible for online play, but I think that's because of Sony.

BassTurd ,

I'm on Arch KDE and have and Nvidia 2080ti. I can't run Wayland. Otherwise I run 3 monitors, 1 an ultra wide at 120hz. I haven't had any issues.

BassTurd ,

The most popular stable Linux distros are no more difficult to understand than Windows to the average and below average user. If your dad still doesn't understand XP, then he never will. Also, it means he is not a power user and can be shown where the internet button is on any OS.

BassTurd ,

Which means the face recognition was never necessary. It's a way for companies to build a database that will eventually get exploited. 100% guarantee.

BassTurd ,

How did that end? I need details about all of it. The dreams, the seer, the treatment, the outcome.

If you don't mind.

BassTurd ,

Early, late, or no Internet, the occult scene has always been a made up bunch of mumbo jumbo. One doesn't need experience with it to know that.

BassTurd ,

Nothing specific. Talking to ghosts, spirits, or seeing visions is a child's game. Getting someone to pay you money to talk to spirits ghosts, or see visions, is a con man's game. Both are made up, one is acceptable.

iPhones And Androids Can Now Warn You of 'Secret Trackers' (www.ibtimes.co.uk)

In a collaborative effort, Apple and Google have developed an industry-standard detection feature called "Detecting Unwanted Location Trackers" (DULT) for Bluetooth trackers. This standard allows users on iOS and Android devices to be alerted if an unknown Bluetooth tracker is monitoring their location.

BassTurd ,

The trade of there is the police potentially have your location at any given time with the flip of a switch. I'd lose many of my positions before I have the police gang that much power.

BassTurd ,

For sure. That (theoretically) does require warrants, so there's some level of red tape. That would for sure have to exist in this made up situation where talking about. No way do I want anyone able to just flip a switch and snoop on me, especially the police.

BassTurd ,

Linux can run from a USB stick to try it out before committing to a full install.

BassTurd ,

I did the same. To add to the cliche, I went nuclear and jumped into Arch. Games were my biggest concern, but I've had zero issues with games, minor issues with Nvidia, but if I'd have gone with a stable distro, it would have been an easy transition. I'm confident that anyone who can use Windows even semi functionally, can transition to something like Mint with minimal issue. Other than no local MS office apps, I bet most people would assume it's a new Windows release.

BassTurd ,

This about the dumbest post I've seen today. How dare these people exercise safety so that they can install the fucking safety barriers that you want for the bike lanes. Holy shit, take a step back and get a sense of reality.

BassTurd ,

I get the point. It's just a shitty point. We can agree that the bike lane is not sufficiently safe, and you claim that those barriers are inadequate, but comparing the safety of bikers in the bike lane vs workers literally working in the car lane, and somehow correlating them shutting down that lane as hypocrisy is a shit argument. Apples and oranges.

BassTurd ,

That is an idea, but it has nothing to do with this post. You've taken my criticism of OP and spun it into something completely different. The post isn't about the safety of the bike lane. It's about the supposed hypocrisy of closing down the car lane while doing construction work in it. It's asinine. You can piss and moan about the barriers not being enough, but regardless of the device being installed, closing off that section of the car lane (and bike lane for that matter) is the only prudent thing to do for the safety of those workers.

BassTurd ,

And the socket can be changed too, if I read the article correctly. The verge article posted in this thread elsewhere.

BassTurd ,

I only have it because I have prime for shopping. If they were separate fees, I would not have streaming.

BassTurd ,

Just because I have the service doesn't mean I don't also have backups some items.

BassTurd ,

Not only that, but all of their interfaces are trash. These services should model there UI off of Plex.

BassTurd ,

If my TV was 16 years old, and the manufacturer cut off the internet function to it, id be ok with that.

These thermostats still work as thermostats, just without the smart features. Comparing that to turning a TV to a radio is disingenuous. 16 years is a long time, and there are security protocols amongst other things that go obsolete over time and can't be updated at a certain point on legacy devices.

BassTurd ,

The problem is that it's impossible to support all products forever. There has to be a time that something turns EoL, and IMO 16 years is a reasonable amount of time for almost anything, but especially a small electronic device. As others have mentioned, it would be awesome if they opened the API for personal use, but there's a million reasons why that may not have been possible. Ideally everything would work and be supported forever, but it's impossible.

BassTurd ,

I think I've had just one issue with Linux gaming, and it was made worse by me trying to troubleshoot the error, when restarting the game for the first launch solved it out right. It was a, "have you turned it off and on again?" situations. Otherwise, everything has ran well, installed well, and was pretty seamless. All of that while running Nvidia, which is the biggest surprise.

BassTurd ,

I can't run Wayland, which I think I've determined is an Nvidia thing, but that's it. I do wish there were more and better options for some softwares, but that's just the nature of the game. Specifically audio recording and CAD leave something to be desired, but there are at least some options.

BassTurd ,

They shouldn't have that amount of disposable income in the first place, and a good portion should have been tax money. If that money were invested in public housing the return would be massive.

BassTurd ,

Lol, ok Premier League. Welcome to the party.

BassTurd ,

I would say some unfiltered shit at any moron that handed me something like this. It would probably be exactly what they want, but I would belittle them with every fiber of my being in the hopes that something sticks and they feel bad. It would make me feel a little better, but I am also a big man child sometimes.

BassTurd ,

Also, the land is stable. For something as precise as chip mfg, an area that won't earthquake is nice.

BassTurd ,

I e already begun. At least 5 people around me will never buy Roku again. Fortunately, they're tech smart, so it was easy to explain and didn't actually require convincing.

BassTurd ,

Windows 7 was peak Windows experience IMO, and to follow it up win Windows 8...

BassTurd ,

Better times, friend. Better times.

Roku explores taking over HDMI feeds with ads (www.lowpass.cc)

Roku is exploring ways to show consumers ads on its TVs even when they are not using its streaming platform: The company has been looking into injecting ads into the video feeds of third-party devices connected to its TVs, according to a recent patent filing.  ...

BassTurd ,

I would get rid of my old Roku that I'm sure is too old for this tech and urge everyone I know to never buy anything Roku, and if they did, I would lambast them every opportunity I could.

BassTurd ,

I have the app and the browser extension. I usually open the extension and copy from there rather than use the app for things outside of the browser. It's just quicker.

BassTurd ,

I'm a millennial. Anecdotally, I haven't seen as much bashing on gen z at least amongst other millennials. The older folks are going on about hair colors and the typical boomer stuff, but I see more acceptance of the youths amongst my peers. Most notably gen z tends to be a lot better with showing emotions and communication. I think the only thing I've complained about is these past trends of kids just ripping sinks and urinals off the walls in bathrooms and other oddly destructive things. That felt like a newer trend that I didn't experience going through school or really hear about.

BassTurd ,

The first sentence in your second paragraph, when you say, "utter disbelief", are you taking what I said as an insult towards the newer generation or are you referring to the OP comic strip? If so, I'm not trying to insult them at all. I'm a big fan as a whole, just minor fries from some bad actors that don't represent the generation, but happen to be a part of it.

BassTurd ,

No need to apologize, you were clear, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't misreading. I think general when I hear or use the words "utter <something>" it's usually about something bad or whimsical. Not that it has to be, rather it's just how my mind initially interprets it

BassTurd ,

This one also shits on Mac, so it's a little different. That and the more bad speak about Windows, the better.

BassTurd ,

That's not a supply and demand thing though. There just wouldn't be product to buy because there's no way to get it to the stores. It's less about the bankruptcy and more about availability.

BassTurd ,

I'm on KDE Arch and switched about a week ago. I have an Nvidia card and went straight from x11 to Wayland plasma 6. It's definitely prettier and smoother, but it's absolutely not as stable. Idk if that's an Nvidia things, a Wayland thing, or a plasma 6 thing, but I definitely have fairly consistent display issues after switching. I have a btrfs snapshot from right before I updated that's at plasma 5, so I have a fallback if I want it. It's mostly just an inconvenience right now, so I'll probably just ride it out for a while and see if things improve.

BassTurd ,

Yep. I decided to try a quick search and it sounds like it's a common issue. Switched back to x11 and I'm stable again.

BassTurd ,

Your examples operate under the assumption that power is limitless. If people don't have power because crypto cunts are bogarting it, they won't care at all that there is tax money coming in. Further, since it is a limited resource, there isn't an increase in tax revenue, it's just being paid by someone else at the expense of people not having access to power. Likewise, the power companies are still serving the same amount of juice, so they aren't getting more money, it's just coming in from a single entity instead of from thousands of individuals.

I haven't read any of the agreements these crypto companies have, but I wouldn't be surprised if they got tax and other financial breaks, further hurting people that are losing out on power.

There is little to no benefit at all for the general population by allowing unlimited access to power for crypto. Maybe it brings in a couple more jobs, but it's not like a power plant has a linear scale of employees required to power output. So it could enrich a handful of people by taking resources from many more people.

BassTurd ,

Really, it's just an asshole tax. Most restaurants these days have extra fees that exceed 2% just because. Hell, once upon a time, a 15% tip was given for great service. Now it seems like 20-22% is often the lowest in the recommended tip section. 2% of extra money is nothing, especially when the fine is less than what was earned from the infraction. It's a lot easier to stomach a 2 billion dollar fine, when you earned 4 billion because of it.

BassTurd ,

When I was in college, I was pulling in just enough money from work to pay for rent, food, essentials, and over drafts from the previous week, that $100 was more than I had available for a good 3-5 years of my life. A college student looking to develop and publish apps is the very type of person most hurt by this.

BassTurd ,

I went straight from windows to Arch. I had used Ubuntu for a couple of weeks 10+ years ago. The arch wiki is a great resource and I was able to follow it to get up and running. However, there are things that aren't detailed enough (like literally hold your hand) on some things the wiki expects you to know. Now, maybe starting with Arch is not the best path, so that's probably mostly on me. I think that since there are so many different ways to do things, that following some of the instructions can be difficult for a user's specific case. Boot loaders where my biggest hangup early on since I didn't want to use Grub. Modifying boot loaders, setting up pacman hooks, learning and configuring different file systems, and learning how the config and system files is tough, and the wiki has all of the info to do it, but it's not always linear. I wish there were more practical code examples and/or short videos showing exactly what files to modify and how to do it right.

BassTurd ,

I probably could have watched a couple of 10 min videos before jumping into the wiki just to get an idea of the process b fore getting so deep. The initial setup instructions are pretty good, it's just those deviation points where you get to decide your path that gets confusing. I first did an old laptop and got that going after many hours. When I committed to my desktop, it went smoother, but I opted to go with btrfs and snapshots without Grub, and that took a hot minute to figure out. Now I have piece of mind from my snapshots, which is great for trying new things. So far, I've been very happy with my setup, and it's been very stable. Now I need to get Wayland and plasma 6 going with my Nvidia card. I got a bit hung up on setting the kernel mode stuff, and haven't really gone back in a while, so it's time.

BassTurd ,

I have not. I personally don't live in a region where disaster notices are often necessary and I don't have offspring that I have to care for that may be affected, so I'm not really the demographic for the service. I do hope more and more start branching out to the likes of Mastodon or maybe better yet, hosting their own instances.

BassTurd ,

I think that being a cop offsets her volunteer work. Until the entire profession is reformed, then ACAB, including your SIL. I'm sure she's a fine person, but as long as she's a member of the police gang, she's one of them.
