@textfiles Thoughts?

Lol, fair. I'm still not well versed in inter-service ActivityPub stuff. I don't know if you'll see this or see any of the parent comments here on Lemmy.

Contingency plans if IA loses the appeal about the library stuff, or in general has something happen that puts IA's collections at risk of being lost. Any thoughts on the matter? Also cool if it's not something you want to talk about, I know you don't speak for the whole org.

How do we archive the archive?

Ah, understood. Thanks!

As someone who rescued Micah by immediately shooting the Sherriff of Strawberry and his buddies in the face, much to my sibling's utter shock when they were letting me try RDR2 the first time, I'd say the reverse is also true.

I just turned 35 a couple of days ago, and this is currently on my mind. I need to make some serious changes, 40 cannot be the same as ages 25 to present.

Like, not even talking financially (though that'd be nice) - I mean like finding people who aren't family to hang out with once and a while, smoking less weed/other means of being clearer minded more often, broadening my horizons and participation in meatspace, that kind of thing.

Do it! Heck, take a friend and some garbage bags and make it nicer for everyone (if you are up to it).

I feel a lot of us would benefit from more time in the bush.

Everyone else here has good tips to get started, so I'll just say - do it! Even if you suck it's fun as hell.

I remember some rumour that an early version was web/hypertext based, which would've been interesting to experience.

I still have very little evidence that anyone other than hypertext narrative writers and English Lit grad students actually read (traverse) hypertext narratives these days, though.

I kind of found the book sort of teaches you how to read it if you pay attention to the structure in the first few bits. But multiple bookmarks can help.

Remember: happiness has to be fought for.

I watched a few good playthroughs rather than playing myself, but do yourself a favour and go into it as blind as possible.

It's been 16 hours since you've posted this. I can only hope you're near the bottom of a looooong staircase at this point.

(Seriously, don't sleep on this one - a lot of people get turned off by the experimental structure stuff but it's 100% worth reading at least once)

What I hate is that some folks I know who aren't white have come to expect this kind of thing. Knew a great guy at work of Indian descent, got to meet him in person for the first time and I asked him where he was from. Normal question when you personally are an army brat and pinged around the country in your formative years. The response was "Well my grandparents are from India".

I have never cringed so hard, and was quick to say "Shit, no, I meant did you grow up in Toronto, or did you used to live in some other place in Canada before?". Made me think about how many people did that "No, where are you really from" shit with him before.

I've only heard the burnt toast thing in relation to a patient Dr. Wilder Penfield treated for recurrent seizures, where she would smell burnt toast before an episode. This led to developing the Montreal Procedure for epilepsy treatment.

To be honest, this type of library is the only way I see public libraries surviving long term.

Some of the best ones I've been to balance space for community activities and space for quiet reading/study. I'm hoping to have one of those bad boys here relatively soon (on one of the most historically interesting blights of land in my city, too).

To be fair, there's still an element of what you can/can't control as a people manager. Depending on the job, you can control the training your people get, the cadence of check ins, the deadlines/milestones they're supposed to meet, etc.

You can't directly control the people, and if someone doesn't take any of what you provide re: support for them to do the thing despite your efforts, you can't control that. But in turn, you can control performance improvement plans, 1-on-1s to figure out if there's an underlying problem/cause that can be addressed, or failing all else, elements of the process that eventually show said person the door.

Doesn't mean that all of this isn't stressful as fuck, or that you're not subject to downwards pressure too.

This is all an aside - I'm legit happy you're doing better working for yourself!

I would love to see someone discuss any enshitification trends with EHR software, as well as any initiatives to bolster FOSS stuff like OSCAR for hospital use cases (far as I know, it's pretty much just used at the clinic level, with more and more uptake of proprietary solutions for that use case as well here in Canada [obligatory Fuck Telus]).

My literal first thought when seeing the title was "Certainly they're referring to character actress Margot Robbie"
