CyberEgg ,

They started by calling China socialistic. What more do you need lol

CyberEgg ,

I'm sorry, but you fell for lies and propaganda. China is an authoritarian state capitalism that uses its its money for buying influence in the global south with colonialistic intent. No difference to western nations, just way more authoritarian.

CyberEgg ,

I love it when U.S. americans word stuff like the U.S. was the whole world...

CyberEgg ,

I know, but that doesn't matter, because my point still stands. U.S. americans often act like the U.S was the whole world an it's annoying.

CyberEgg ,

George Lucas ripped off Dune, and that pretty blatantly. No need to search for more hidden ripoffs.

CyberEgg ,

Nuclear power is still the most expensive way to produce electricity by a large margin.

CyberEgg ,

Yeah, sometimes the pro nuclear bubble feels a bit like crypto bros lol

CyberEgg ,

LCOE of solar is lower than nuclear for eleven years now. Wind has had lower LCOE than nuclear for 14 years now. See figure 52.

Building a new nuclear power plant takes 9-12 years on average. Hinkley Point C in southeast England was announced in 2008 (16 years ago) and is projected to be finished in 2028, with costs now being estimated around $40 billion. These long realisation times are not a european issue alone, as Korea's Shin-Hanul-1-2 faces similar problems.

Safely storing nuclear waste is expensive, too.

CyberEgg ,

Nuclear is more expensive than the others only if the others get subsidies but Nuclear doesn’t.

That is straight up wrong, the opposite is true. England's Hinkley Point C for example has a Contract for Difference, the british government pays a guaranteed price per kWh so their citizens pay less.

CyberEgg ,

You're right, you shouldn't have stepped in. At least, you shouldn't have stepped in and build a strawman. The discussion you entered is about costs, not dangers.

CyberEgg ,

Your one and only fact-related statement was literally

but nuclear energy isn't as dangerous as some make it out to be.

But sure, you weren't talking about dangers lol.

CyberEgg ,

You argued against an argument I didn't make. That's the definition of a strawman.

CyberEgg ,

That's completely beside the point. You said, renewables were only cheaper because they're subsidized. I proved you wrong and showed that nuclear is subsidized. That has nothing to do with companies being for-profit.

CyberEgg ,

Racist AND misogynistic at the same time, that's a bingo.

CyberEgg ,

I don't discriminate. I say the data protection of all of these services is terrible and you shouldn't use them.

CyberEgg ,

Ever heard about CLOUD act?

CyberEgg ,

I have never had any issues getting WLAN, sound, USB or anything to work if i didn't build on minimal Arch or something super nerdy.

Ubuntu, Debian, Pop!, Mint, all work perfectly well in these regards. Only thing you usually have to do something is for gaming. But even that has become very easy by installing wine and proton. Steam even lets you set force compatibility modes for every game.

Debloating or preparing a clean Windows installation is more of a hassle and requires far more skill and research than setting up a working Linux system. Let alone the growing effort Microsoft puts into forcing users into Microsoft Accounts.

If Linux works for you, Good for you. If Windows works for you, Good for you.

I agree to that, but man, "Linux is too hard to set up" is straight up BS nowadays. And Microsoft and Windows do have many issues that need to be pointed out and criticized.

CyberEgg , (edited )

I originally wanted to argue that you lack knowledge about Linux because educating yourself about debloating tools is actually more effort than I ever needed to put into a basic Linux installation with a regular distro, but then I recognized it's actually you who's lacking knowledge about Windows.

Occasional issues with hardware drivers is something that happens with Windows, too. Just last week I set up a server for a client and it took me two days to get all the NICs ready due to driver issues. That shit happens. Occasionally. With both Windows and Linux.

Minimum wage works. Here is an article from the german newspaper FAZ (leans economically right) that presents a study that shows the low income sector has shrunk since the implementation of minimum wages.
Germany before had one of the biggest low income sectors in the western world.
And no, the unemployment rate did not skyrocket. In fact, Germany is as close to full employment as it gets.

I mostly use my microwave for bread storage

CyberEgg ,

Have you checked your "Downloads"-folder?

CyberEgg ,

For Android, I can recommend CX Filebrowser

CyberEgg ,

I see the error. Don't choose HP printers. HP is an acronym for Hates Printers.

CyberEgg ,

They hate printers even more and their printers are a special pain in the ass.

I work in IT, printers are already the most hated devices in this field. But HP is by far the worst.

CyberEgg ,

Is it at least painful enough so one could imagine getting no hair tattooed instead?

CyberEgg ,

That just seems to be a bad idea, too. Clothing can't be produced fairly, safely and sustainable for that price

CyberEgg ,

Weird way to spell "What a despicable world to live in"

CyberEgg ,

I'm pretty sure the FF default is to ask whether you want any extension to work in private windows, too.

CyberEgg ,

There is no singular group called "antifa". It's a movement of loosely (at best) interconnected but independent, antifascist groups.
Also, we need all these groups. It's them who usually organize rallies against racism, fascism, antisemitism, inhuman law proposals, et cetera. Also they organize all sorts of other actions against alt right, far right and (neo-)nazis, like disrupting their rallies and standing in the way of goon squads.
Antifa groups are damn important.

CyberEgg ,

I see your edit above, i see the comments you posted after said edit, and I'm not sure you now actually got what antifa means. Especially the part about it not being a single, coherent organization doesn't seem to get to you.

CyberEgg ,

Yeah, sounds about true. All of the groups in your area are only about violence. Sure, bro.

CyberEgg ,

One of the few times that I'm actually proud of how long it took me to get it.

CyberEgg ,

What do people even do with their wifi appliances?

Timing, automatic and stuff. To keep the washing machine example: you want the laundry out of the machine as soon as possible go hang it up as fresh as possible. You're having a long day ahead of you, not a long time between coming home and going to bed, not enough for a full laundry run at least. You load up your machine before leaving home and remote start it the adequate time so it's done shortly after you're back home.
At least that's what I'd use such features for.
Other people listen to Spotify over their fridge.
