You have another slot most likely, it's just populated by the Wifi card, If you're willing to sacrifice that and use one of those tiny USB wifi adapters you can use that as your second slot with a little adapter to convert between E key to M key. Also have to use a 2230 SSD since the longer ones won't fit in the spot.

I find it strange that many people here are against this when the alternative is a surgical treatment that often can't be easily reversed, and even when it is, often lowers the likelihood they will have a kid.

Chemical solutions are way better in that regard because if they are done right they don't damage any tissue and their affects are temporary.

Also ways to disable the call recording prompt they forced into it. They force that even in one party regions where you can record your own calls without needing permission from the other person.

That is too bad, but also at the same time I kind of lost hope for Gitlab after they jumped on the AI hype train, if they're going full corporate they probably wouldn't be a good candidate for Federation (both because other people would defederate them and because they wouldn't want to because competition).

Apple crushes creativity and its reputation in new iPad ad (www.theregister.com)

The ad itself depicted a mechanical crusher destroying artifacts of human creativity. A trumpet, guitar, sculpture, piano, drawing board, paints, a metronome, several analog cameras, a turntable, and hi-fi equipment were among the much-loved items yielding to the machine's unstoppable force.

Where did you get the idea that Oracle can see their source code? That only applies if they host their source repository on Oracle, if they host the servers there chances are it's binaries that are hosted on the server not the source code.

Draconic_NEO ,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah I don't think this person knows what they're talking about, they must either think ByteDance is hosting the source code on Oracle's servers or they somehow think that binaries are the same as source code 🤷

    Mastodon.social had a whole thing a while back where they had NDA meetings with Facebook in regards to threads federation.

    It's later come out that they are censoring Palestine content on their platform.

    So yeah people who often push for Federation with bad actors like Facebook are very often bad actors themselves.

    Thankfully Lemmy.world hasn't been pushing any pro-Israel content, or censoring Palestine support, at least not yet (hopefully never).

    Probably but they certainly don't want you to know that and almost certainly will say that you can't.

    Roku explores taking over HDMI feeds with ads (www.lowpass.cc)

    Roku is exploring ways to show consumers ads on its TVs even when they are not using its streaming platform: The company has been looking into injecting ads into the video feeds of third-party devices connected to its TVs, according to a recent patent filing.  ...

    Draconic_NEO ,
    @Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

    Probably injecting the ads into blank screen periods.

    Maybe we should bring back screensavers, would really fuck with devices like this that look for blank screen time that would simply never occur.

    You can tear the wifi antenna off the board, and it'll never connect again (not just unplug it from the card, actually tear it off the pads), could also remove the shield from the Wifi module as well for good measure and it would never get a good signal ever again.

    If you're feeling really brave you could even try removing or cutting the traces connecting the Wireless module to the main system bus, has diminishing returns though since it would be very easy to short or destroy the PCI bus rendering the system completely inoperable.

    They already have that it's called click fraud or automated ad clicking, mostly though it's websites that earned money from advertisers who engage in this, as a sleazy way of making more money.

    Though if you want to partake in it there are ad blocking extensions that also do it. It's not perfect but it is quite damaging to the advertising industry.

    I get that it’s probably technically possible to bypass

    Not exactly a bypass it's more so destruction of property (your own property might I add, since there's no clause that says you have to return it to the company at some point)

    it’d actually be illegal to bypass and almost nobody would do it.

    Yeah we're definitely not at the point in time yet where it is illegal to vandalize your own things, hacking in some places, but vandalism of your own property not so much (exceptions only for rentals or leases, which TVs aren't since you never need to return them).

    Draconic_NEO ,
    @Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

    Obviously but it could become very hard to do that with Smart TVs dominating the space now.

    Rescuing home partition from ZFS, actually that doesn't really count since I did have to reinstall (was no longer booting), but recovering the Home partition from ZFS and to the other ext4 drive was much harder than it should've been and that's why I would never recommend people use ZFS.

    Google Allows Creditors to Brick Your Phone (lemmy.world)

    I installed NetGuard about a month ago and blocked all internet to apps, unless they're on a whitelist. No notifications from this particular system app (that can't be disabled) until recently when it started making internet connection requests to google servers. Does anyone know when this became a thing?...

    First Debian, then Ubuntu because people said it was better, then back to Debian because it wasn't (snaps really suck and break things), then to Pop OS (bc new laptop preinstalled with it). I also got a SteamDeck semi-recently if that counts (still use the Pop OS laptop).

    Threads is automatically hiding comments that mention Pixelfed (mastodon.social)

    For anyone wondering if Threads and Facebook at large will be a fine neighbor in the space and compatible with other apps/services in the fediverse: they’re already automatically hiding comments that mention Pixelfed https://mastodon.social/@dansup/112126250737482807

    I could also just block the threads.net domain, no?

    Nope domain blocking in Lemmy only does anything for communities. Plus blocking on Lemmy isn't even really blocking, it's a more extreme mute function that is deceptively called "block".

    Often they delete all images during the time frame of a CSAM attack, as that has been the only real feasible way to ensure images weren't left behind. Though I think a few images have started using AI detection methods to remove images like that automatically (read up on that here and here), also Pict-rs now has a Log linking uploaded images to the user, so now images can be purged with the users.

    Don't underestimate your own worth, everyone has something of at least little importance, because even someone "worthless" can be worth a lot to the right people.

    That's why it's very important to be careful what you share.

    Have they given a reason why the specifically not able to do it, or do they just not want to do it because it's "unlicensed" or "out of spec" if it's just the second option then it's a problem of having unwilling people and not a real entry barrier.

    If there's an actual barrier to developing something like that it's important to understand what it is.

    Could be Cassgender, Agender, or Apagender (gender apathetic) .

    Oh also Absgender and Isogender, those could also fit, though these are [gender modalities]((https://mogai.miraheze.org/wiki/Gender_Modality), not necessarily gender identities (you would be a gender identity that is under these modalities i.e. Someone may identify as Agender, under the Absgender modality).

    Draconic_NEO ,

    One example I can think of is how cis people (usually cis males) who choose to crossdress are often misgendered, made fun of, and told they must not be cis because of how they dress.

    Though I'm not really sure if this actually counts because these issues I described also affect trans people who are gender Non-Conforming, in very similar ways.

    What's more likely is that their comment is just a funny joke, where they swapped the roles of cis and trans in the passage and the joke part is that it sounds absurd and isn't supposed to make sense.

    I mean Nostr is also a piece of shit but for different reasons, it's basically 4chan but without any moderation at all.

    Draconic_NEO ,
    @Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

    Well maybe I wouldn't necessarily call it moderation but it has a site admin that bans people and neighborhoods (IP ranges) for really nasty stuff (like child abuse material). Nostr doesn't even have that though, some nodes may remove content, but most don't, and people effectively can't be banned.

    Draconic_NEO ,
    @Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

    Indeed it is. Unfortunately though it's also important enough that it means people will go along with fascist stuff if the "security" excuse is used, and people who stand up to it will be mocked and ridiculed at best, or be accused of being cyber attackers at worst.

    Draconic_NEO ,
    @Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

    I don't know how true that is about YouTube intentionally CPU bombing ad block users specifically.

    I will say though that websites run by big tech companies getting much heavier and more poorly optimized is ultimately just a fact of life. They don't care about optimization, in fact it benefits them more that people have the latest and greatest hardware so that's what they're going to target. Ultimately that means that these websites will get slower on older hardware with time, and people will rely more and more on alternative frontends to access content, and it won't really matter if you have ad blockers or not (*turning it off on a bloated site that is bogging down your CPU might actually make it worse).

    Draconic_NEO ,
    @Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

    Pretty sure they did that on purpose, trying to skew the narrative. The goal is to make it seem like it's all doom and gloom because it'll get people to read the article to the end, and maybe in their minds get some people to stop using adblockers.

    Draconic_NEO ,
    @Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

    Probably get a unit w/o having it implanted, modify it, then get it installed unofficially. (Don't ask who or where, because that won't be shared publicly, as it will almost certainly be illegal).

    Draconic_NEO ,
    @Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

    Could allow people to curate their own blacklists if they don't want to play in groups like that, then they would have the option to play in public and online, it would be more rough and they would have to keep it up but having those tools would allow them to play publicly without needing to join a forum or group while still curating their experience. Obviously would be more work but it would be a good fallback.

    If that's too hard they'd still have the option of joining one of those groups.

    I think on iOS it's technically possible (or at the very least was at one point) but apple would nuke your app from the store if you tried, so I'm doubtful they would try pulling something like this for apple users specifically.

    On android barring a Rooting exploit in the OS (which would also get your app nuked) it just isn't possible, and Rooted users don't really need to worry because they should know better than to grant a game Root access if it asks.

    Draconic_NEO ,
    @Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

    I can definately see that being a problem, all systems have their downsides. A system like that though I feel is necessary in a game with decentralized online play.

    For centralized ones it doesn't make as much sense since those already have anti-cheat (automated or human run) and bans from the service, which aren't perfect either, innocent people often get banned when they didn't deserve it, it's just not as apparent because in those communities anyone banned is witch hunted afterwards, there's a lot of appeal to authority in those communities.

    All user crowd control systems, even the lack of one is going to have negative effects to their usage, even if they aren't apparent at first.

    same as Linux.

    You couldn't be more wrong bud. Flatpaks do not require sudo, executables run from a directory (like how Steam games are run) don't require sudo either.
    You only need sudo if installing from the main package manager like deb, rpm, pacman or whatever your distro uses. Most games on Linux aren't installed from the main package manager though.

    (On either OS if they are not showing terminal output)

    If it's a package for the package manager you could download the archive for it and pull it apart to see its contents, it's usually very clear when such software includes kernel drivers or kernel patchers. Most software on Linux uses the package manager to install or a script to unpack, both of which are relatively easy to explore even if the software isn't open source, haven't found too many linux apps with Binary installers, they might exist but if they do they aren't popular or common.

    Draconic_NEO ,
    @Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

    Just got to hope that Canonical will host all of the software for it on their Snap repository (singular) I don't think they'd object to it but that is a big issue with snap, you can't add other repositories and the server code isn't open source.
