I have been running vertical tabs for a while now and it's broken about 3 times, once every few months. Currently, I've had no min/maximise/close buttons for about a week because I can't be bothered to fix it. Far from "one and done".

IronKrill ,

This is avoidable with the right CSS.

IronKrill ,

That it is. Firefox updates have broken my CSS several times now, so I am quite happy for them to add side tab officially.

IronKrill ,

Or we could just... not glorify people we barely know and invariably be disappointed when it comes out they're flawed some way or another.

What file format do you store your media in?

Hello! I recently listened to a podcast that talked about how storing media files in .av1 format is very efficient and storage-friendly. I've been storing my files in .mkv format, but now I'm considering using Handbrake or a similar service to convert all my video files to .av1 if it's more compressed than .mkv. So;...

IronKrill ,

File format? mkv, so convenient. But media codec would be h265 any day. I find the video quality to file size to be perfect for most films and only have issues with it on the largest files and the lowest power hardware (Roku TV). For the movies I really love and rewatch I sometimes get h264 for the better visual quality. I tried some AV1 files and found the artifacts really ugly, but admittedly these were very small files. That and the lack of hardware decoding on most hardware is preventing me from migrating.

IronKrill ,

End of life ≠ breaking it. It will continue working as long as Microsoft doesn't touch it and apps support it.

I agree in an abstract, but shoes do not wear at the same rate each year, especially when you buy different shoes each time. My shoe purchases, for instance, vary by a number of years.

IronKrill ,

I have never heard a more apt description of Windows. You have a way with words.

IronKrill ,

I loaded up a download page on a work computer recently, forgetting it didn't have adblock. My god the amount of ads was insane. There were literally about 20 ads surrounding the content with varying styles and I could actually not figure out at a glance what was the main content. I don't understand how anyone uses the internet raw anymore.

IronKrill ,

Where I am the situation is flipped: I get infinite SMS, but have to pay for data i.e pay per message on RCS.

IronKrill ,

Self-hosting any wiki software solves the problems of Fandom, surely? I fail to see how federation solves any of Fandom's issues.

Unfortunately the subscription appears to be for their benchmarking tool only, not for website access.

IronKrill ,

It's crazy I had to scroll down this far to see a comment from someone that actually read the article.

IronKrill ,

Article and trend aside, I actually do miss landlines... I have to do the "boomer" thing of talking on speaker phone with my phone out in front of me because no matter what I do putting my flat cellphone up to my ear is just impossible to hear and exceedingly uncomfortable. I miss the ergonomics of a real phone.

IronKrill ,

Unfortunately I've yet to find a pair of earbuds that doesn't fall out or hurt my ears (or both), Either my ears are shaped differently than the average or I have to spend more to find the right pair. I would use headphones instead, but they're hard to lug around and most work days I interact with customers so it's a no-go.

IronKrill ,

I hadn't thought about the wire affecting it, that could well be! Thanks for the input, I may have to take another look at some buds.

IronKrill ,

Sorry what? He still does the first two and I have no idea what you're referencing with the view% comment.

IronKrill ,

Fair enough, I don't watch their sponsored videos and am not going to to check this, so I can't comment on how misleading they are. I just don't like how many they do of those and how hard it is to tell them apart from the regular content/reviews. That said, I've never seen it affect their videos or opinions outside of the sponsor spot. Linus will still say whatever he wants in other videos, especially on WAN, and if there is an issue with a company then they cease sponsors with them. They've demonstrated that with Anker and their Eufy products.

I was primarily confused in your original comment because you mentioned watercooling a room. They still do big/stupid projects like this, such as Linus watercooling via his pool, it's just hard to find amongst the filler garbage. You also mentioned dunking on companies, which he still does when they do stupid shit, though rarely via a dedicated video.

Thanks for explaining your point, I was fully expecting to be ghosted after the first downvote...

IronKrill ,

Windows 10 came with Candy Crush ads in the start menu (on my machine), it's not any better than W11. Don't get me wrong, I use W11 and think it sucks more overall, but W10 does the same crap.

IronKrill ,

I sadly had a similar experience. Worked for me flawlessly for years on Win7, but the moment I switched to 10 and there-after it has been a buggy experience with crashes, especially with x265 content. I had to switch to using MPC-HC.

IronKrill ,

TL;DR company shady

The main 3 points seem to be: China-owned, predatory loan applications, and spreading themselves across too many concept/trend browser spinoffs. Honestly this is kinda old news and won't stop anyone I know from using the thing. You can't just say they're "probably" harvesting your data for "nefarious" reasons and expect people to all jump to Firefox (as nice as that may be).

IronKrill ,

I loved some of the functionality Vivaldi adds (split tabs, tab groups, etc) but I couldn't take the instability that came with it. That thing crashed more times in the 6 months I used it than Firefox or Chrome ever have for me total I swear to god.

IronKrill ,

I feel like I saw "big mad" a few times in 2016, but never since...

Amazon has been listing products with the title, 'I'm sorry, I cannot fulfil this request as it goes against OpenAI use policy' (www.businessinsider.com)

Amazon has been listing products with the title, 'I'm sorry, I cannot fulfil this request as it goes against OpenAI use policy'::Products have appeared on the platform with odd titles that are seemingly related to OpenAI's usage policy.

IronKrill ,

Depends who you buy from. I've had shipping take 2-3 weeks on some items since the sellers are just the same Chinese companies as Ali.
