In most cases, this is because an individual page was deleted or removed on an otherwise functional website.

How is this news? I bet a lot of pages were also added in the same time frame, very likely orders of magnitude more.

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

Even 100% freshly juiced fruit juice with no additives is a sugar bomb.

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

Fructose isn't good for you, either.

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

There's a much faster way. Just put this in your hosts file:

0.0.0.0 google.com
KISSmyOSFeddit ,

Can confirm, I enjoy Fallout New Vegas and getting pegged.

Coming to terms with no longer having privacy and control over my technology

I miss the days of VHS and DVD shelfs in homes, for example. If you bought the tapes and had them in your home, no corporate entity could alter those tapes without your consent, monitor how many times you watch them, sell your data to whomever they please without your knowledge, roll out new mandatory conditions to a 'user...

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

You can still buy movies on physical media.
You can use an OS that doesn't pull this shit.
And you can buy your games from GOG which has no DRM.
All your issues have pretty solutions.

‘My whole library is wiped out’: what it means to own movies and TV in the age of streaming services (www.theguardian.com)

*What rights do you have to the digital movies, TV shows and music you buy online? That question was on the minds of Telstra TV Box Office customers this month after the company announced it would shut down the service in June. Customers were told that unless they moved over to another service, Fetch, they would no longer be...

I want to see a world where content creators are simply paid by the hour, while they work. Why do they get to still make money off their work 70 years after they died?

Yes, it would probably mean that billion-dollar-movies aren't viable anymore, and most YouTubers couldn't live off their videos, but I see that as a good thing.

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

I tried it recently, but eventually gave up. It had so many little and not-so-little issues on my laptop, which I solved one by one over 2 weeks, reading and learning a lot. Even recompiled the kernel with a custom patch to get energy management to work.

Then I did a speed test on Wi-Fi, and it capped out at 6MBit (I have a Gigabit connection). The solution apparently is to install a Wi-Fi network adapter inside a Linux VM and connect to that on boot.
That's when I went back to Debian where everything just works out of the box on my PC.

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

I heard netbsd runs on anything, even toasters.
Does that mean it runs well on laptops too?

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

To be fair, 99% of BSD's probably run in a VM.

KISSmyOSFeddit , (edited )

BSD isn't really a competitor to Windows, try installing Windows 11 on your router and report back.

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

Wifi is a bit clunky

Can you elaborate? Are you just dealing with the slow speed or did you do something special to it?

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

Are we sure that's a dog he's dragging? A live one?

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

Would you like to back up your folders to OneDrive?
It would be a shame if something were to happen to your files!

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

Just put a big archive in your nextcloud with default config, your server will be wheezing in no time.

KISSmyOSFeddit , (edited )

It scans for viruses inside the archive, which takes longer than the 5 minutes interval before it spawns a new maintenance task, which scans inside the archive while the previous task is still scanning...

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

To find out if nuking that one workstation is enough or if you have to take more drastic measures.

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

And then get ransomwared a bit later.

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

I installed it on bare metal in Arch Linux, cause it's more fun that way.

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

A software patch for a hardware failure.
Sounds like what they do at Tesla, too.

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

I find the wording weird: The neuralink's threads have retracted from the brain.
The threads can't move or disconnect on their own. Neither can brain cells. All that can be measured is a loss of connection.

The far more reasonable explanation is that the brain cells at the connection point have died.

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

I don't want my OS to stand out. I want it to be out of my way.
Like an antisocial dude in the basement who quietly handles my I/O processes for me without giving me his opinions or "helping" me manage my media and contacts.

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

To install the current version of Windows on my PC, I need to enter command prompt from within the installer and type 2 commands to disable ethernet and the online install requirement.
Otherwise it won't let me install it without a Microsoft account.

Almost all major desktop Linux distros let you install them with "Click Next until Done" now.

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

When my mom needed a new PC, she asked me, the family's computer guy. I asked her what she does on her PC, bought one, installed Debian with Cinnamon, activated automatic security updates without notifications, set up her printer and an ssh/vnc server for remote assistance. I haven't heard of any issues in 2 years.

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

In CSV you do whatever the fuck you want, and afterwards you delete the file cause CSV is trash and no one should use it.

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

Do I get the sawdust in a bag with it?

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

Careful, you're gonna make the BSD users angry. All 4 of them.

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

Also being heavily pushed towards apps for websites like YouTube, Twitter, Reddit, Facebook… Lemmy, Mastodon… They are all “best experienced” in apps, and most of them will probably try to push you ads or make you pay.

That has nothing to do with the operating system. Just use Firefox, set it to show you the desktop version of the websites, and you'll have the same experience as on a desktop PC.
Except with a smaller screen size.

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

In the real world, people don't regularly drive 600 miles in a hurry either.

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

Yes, but if only those people who need that drove ICE cars, BEVs would have a 90% market share.

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

The S23 is basically unusable without UAD-ng

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

Best I can do is a 12-year financing plan at 18% interest and oh, you're fired.

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

NixOS shills be like "your entire system is set up in one single file".
They don't tell you that the documentation looks like this:

https://nixos.org/manual/nixos/stable/options

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

Ubuntu is just corporate Debian.
OpenSUSE is just German Slackware.
I miss Arch, by the way.

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

Windows 11 be like: We don't do that anymore!

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

You can't just post this without screenshots.

KISSmyOSFeddit ,

Oh shit, the sun came out and I forgot to put my Cybertruck into "Sunlight Mode".
It's bricked now, but it's really my fault.
