Cinema often is a group activity. And even if you have many friends, it can still be nice to go there alone.

This ice cream (or at least one that looks extremely similar) is called… Nogger in Germany

With the tagline Nogger yourself

Isn't that how every automatically sensing faucet works?

I think that’s called nostalgia

(But yeah, it makes sense you have more fun with a gaming console than with an everyday device)

Reminds me of this shirt I don’t care if your feelings are offended.
And I’m like… okay but why are you such an asshole person that you don’t care? If you were a decent human being, you wouldn’t just want to just hurt someone’s feelings, that’s just… being an asshole.

Most works can be made into a way that they're not degrading, and the ones that can't, shouldn't be jobs.

I’m really glad I haven’t seen any posts like that here on Lemmy but that sounds really awful. :/

And I completely agree with your thought and intention but I still have to nitpick about:

There is a time and place for tone policing and it’s _never_ the very minute a woman speaks up.

Of course it’s not never. Just like with men, women are not infallible and can do shit.
I know you’re (hopefully) not literally meaning it like that, but I thought it’s still noteworthy.

You really missed out on Europapa. It got the second place in the semi-finale and would very likely been have top 5, but got disqualified because of no real reason (it's a huge scandal going on, they first suggested he hit someone, but it turned out to be wrong and he just made a "threatening gesture" at a camera after repeatingly asked not to be filmed at a time where he wasn't allowed to be filmed).

Korne127 ,
@Korne127@lemmy.world avatar

He got the second place (182 out of 216 possible points, that's an insanely good result, even better than Croatia in their semi-final) in the semi-final so he would have been very likely top 5.

What do you mean with brough back? Jury votes are nothing new, the split system like this exists for over a decade.

The problem is that there is no clear definition of a post. Sure, a tweet or an Instagram is a post. A private message to a friend is probably not a post. But what if you send images of your vacation in a discord server with many friends? The line gets fishy, and if I couldn't talk to friends, independently to the trip itself, while on vacation, I would also say no.

Korne127 ,
@Korne127@lemmy.world avatar

Shitposting on Lemmy would still be a post and prohibited though

Korne127 ,
@Korne127@lemmy.world avatar

you can still talk to friends, but not about the vacation

Hmm… interesting. I think I'd still yes, but as I really enjoy talking to friends about things I currently do, rather reluctantly (and not for a very long one).

With your explanation, I can see how you get to that interpretation, although mine would probably different (mainly because I associate post with A: showing it to a larger group simultaniously and B: having a picture or video (but that's just due to my personal media usage)).
I think I might place the line between a small group of friends you tell it and a larger public Discord server(?) as that mostly feels like the difference between privately talking and posting it to a bigger audience, but it's complicated.

it’s more 'would you go on a vacation and just enjoy it, or do you only want to go on vacation so people know you went?'
yeah, that makes sense. I see. I mean I would definitely go to a vacation to enjoy it (and not to show it off or something, in fact my last Instagram post is now over a year ago and I don't really use Twitter or other personal social media like that). But not talking about it would still be hard as I basically talk to people every day about what I'm doing, where I'm going, what projects I'm working on, etc. So having to stop sharing that would be different to my usual way how I spend time with people. (But I'd just do it all afterwards, often in vacations I don't have much time anyways to talk to people about it and just catch up later in a longer talk.)

Am I a Reddit boomer when I’m 21 and like (some) Tiktok-esque kind of content?

I’ve never used TikTok, but not because I don’t get the idea of using audio as meme template or because I don’t like short videos. But just because that specific platform itself is so vile.
Not just talking about funding the Chinese government, TikTok e.g. reduces reach of neurodivergent people. Even worse, it censors information against China‘s authoritarianism and much more.

Why can’t I be happy that this awful platform loses reach? The content itself will be kept, there are enough copycats.

Also, Lemmy is full of people that stopped using Reddit for ethical reasons. So it’s not surprising many are against TikTok as well tbh.

@Korne127@lemmy.world avatar

I don't get your point. I'm against tech monopolies and I hate Google. I want Facebook to be split up and think that the current tech companies are way to powerful, see this video by Last Week Tonight. I use duckduckgo and try to avoid google services.

Don’t pretend to be doing any of this for any kind of moral high ground when you can’t even be bothered to look into something before arguing for it.

Lmao. How would you get the thought I wouldn't have "looked into this". That sounds like antivax level of arguments.

Everything you said is basically wrong.

And this gives me the feeling I'm much better informed than you tbh.
Because no, what I wrote is factually correct, read for example this, this or this or just so many more articles, outlining detailed how TikTok censors content made by minorities, talking about the Uighur camps or so much more.

I feel like you can't grasp the thought that someone knows how bad many tech companies are and still can see that content behind TikTok is at least as terrible. And what I'm writing isn't any more boomer-like than what you write, you even use the same talking points but are just ignoring any of TikTok's flaws.

Neither are you on TikTok, unless you actively go looking for it

That's just genuine nonsense. The whole point of platforms like TikTok are the modern recommender systems that (simplified) lead to algorithmic radicalisation. Because these systems heavily optimise towards user engagement, they naturally spread misinformation and controversial content.
And because this kind of content statistically gets more user engagement as people commend on it and spend more time with it, it spreads quicker. This has also e.g. been confirmed by a leaked internal Facebook memo.

And additionally, these systems are personalised, so when you start to interact with it, you get more and more similar content. This leads to a radicalisation pipeline in which the platforms normalises these positions in echo chambers to you.

Everything Valve does to Proton eventually makes it way back upstream to Wine proper.

Ah okay, that's nice. I wasn't completely sure about that. At least if that's the case and the projects are so related, I'm wondering why Proton doesn't work on macOS. I could have imagined the code bases to start to differ more and more.

But I mean, I'm fine with Wine (or to be exact the Wine/Crossover version I can get with Homebrew).

Korne127 ,
@Korne127@lemmy.world avatar

I looked at Whiskey but as far as I can see, that's just… a Wine wrapper and not related to Proton.
I mean I appreciate the comment, thanks, but I have Wine installed via Homebrew and it works without any real problems.
