I haven't used PayPal in over 10 years. Why don't you just leave the service?

MeatsOfRage ,

It's an Indian record label. Unless you're from India or are into Indian music you'd probably have no reason to associate with them

MeatsOfRage ,

Android auto fails to load for me so often I'm pretty much restarting every day anyway

Looks like you can't self host it right now?

MeatsOfRage ,

That typewriter sound effect for every key you hit was so satisfying

MeatsOfRage ,

Yea I feel like this post has some real 2014 energy. There are much bigger problems in the industry right now. 2K absolutely loading their titles with MTX and gambling, the whole mobile industry digging into people's life savings, Microsoft absolutely eviscerating good studios.

MeatsOfRage ,

Yea I see this as a net positive. They mention concert venues. This is the perfect use case, I remember so many times struggling to get a bus after a big show because they're packed. This could relieve that. It could increase frequency of pickups on existing routes, it'll cut down on single passenger Ubers.

And, oh yeah, three of the airplane engines burned out

And we went into a tailspin and crashed into a hillside

And the plane exploded in a giant fireball and everybody died

Except for me

You know why?

'Cause I had my tray table up

And my seat back in the full upright position

Had my tray table up

And my seat back in the full upright position

What? The only payments I make that could take checks are my bills and it's not like I wouldn't have to keep track of those just because I'm paying by check. I don't understand this at all.

MeatsOfRage ,

My bet, fully automated with localized maintenance workers who can travel around and perform repairs to fix the trucks stuck in their areas.

MeatsOfRage ,

They're also accepting full liability if anything happens while using this feature so it's actually a type of insurance

MeatsOfRage ,

I've got Google One for the storage but there was no way I wanted all my internet activity routed through the Google servers

MeatsOfRage ,

Yes but I individually choose what goes in there it's not the fire hose of data that is everything I browse

MeatsOfRage ,

Bandcamp was bought by Epic Games, who fired half the staff and sold off the remainder to some kind of nebulous music licencing platform. I wouldn't cheer them on much longer, I see dark days ahead.

MeatsOfRage ,

🐷🧇

😢

MeatsOfRage ,

Yup that's the "nebulous music licencing platform" I was referring to

MeatsOfRage ,

I wish they'd just add something useful like threaded conversations.

MeatsOfRage ,

Funny because Inspect offers all the stealing tools

Walmart seems to ONLY have a “technical issue” when it comes to requesting a refund. All other areas of the website work perfectly fine! (lemmy.ca)

Any time saved by ordering online and picking up the order has vanished chasing customer support people to fix something that would have taken a few seconds through their website.

MeatsOfRage ,

Links generally don't know if the service on the other end of the link is up or down at that time. I mean you could have it go out and prefetch the headers but that's a lot of overhead for every link.

MeatsOfRage ,

These Balegas? I've got something similar on mine

MeatsOfRage ,

Yea I definitely fall into the 20 pages or less a month category. Hell I probably fall into the 20 pages or less a year category. But I'd never add a subscription for something I can just buy out.

Roku TV bricked until agreeing to new terms of service

See title - very frustrating. There is no way to continue to use the TV without agreeing to the terms. I couldn't use different inputs, or even go to settings from the home screen and disconnect from the internet to disable their services. If I don't agree to their terms, then I don't get access to their new products. That...

MeatsOfRage ,

Problem with monitors is they're not practical as a TV replacement for a livingroom environment. The 16/9 ones pretty much top out in the 40s inch wise unless you're going for something outrageously expensive like the Samsung Arc. Then you're investing a lot into features that don't necessarily benefit the livingroom entertainment uses like GSync if all you're using it for is watching movies and TV.

There's a lot of smart TVs that work great as dumb displays (my LG never shows anything from it's OS, just my inputs) as long as you don't connect them to the internet

MeatsOfRage , (edited )

These are digital signage displays. They're meant to sell the McRib at McDonald's. If you care about any of the features that make modern TVs look great, black levels, contrast ratio, HDR these won't cut it.

And yes the bottom of the barrel brands like Roku and Viso will give you the bottom of the barrel experience. This is not the same if you go with something like LG, Samsung or Sony

According to Air Canada, Moffatt never should have trusted the chatbot and the airline should not be liable for the chatbot's misleading information because Air Canada essentially argued that "the chatbot is a separate legal entity that is responsible for its own actions," a court order said.

That's some business class horse shit right there, glad they got taken to task over this

MeatsOfRage , (edited )

This always bugs me about the "it runs Doom" posts. 90% of the time it's just a unique display hooked up to a regular computer where the computer is the thing running Doom or they made some simple raycast game with Doom assets (like all the calculator ones) or they just jammed a raspberry pi in something.

I'm sure this display will show Cyberpunk 2077 if they piped the display in properly. Doesn't mean e.coli are running a 4080.

MeatsOfRage ,

Content providers can probably include chapter markers in their content. I also suspect it's not hard to detect a scene transition. Failing these, randomly placed.

MeatsOfRage ,

getting all this tech in a headset means there’s a lot of weight on your face, so Apple chose to use an external battery pack connected by a cable.

From the article. What do you mean no one is talking about this, literally every review dropped in the past day brings these things up.

MeatsOfRage ,

One thing I give Apple credit for is keeping ads out of the primary operating system. I've got an Apple TV and a Google TV (I refuse to use it's full name). Apple TV is just a grid of Apps whereas the Google homescreen immediately hits you with an ad for a show on a streaming service you might not even have. Even the Google remote has dedicated buttons for Netflix and YouTube and I'm not a Netflix subscriber.

I guess it's the difference between Apple being a hardware/software company and Google being an advertising company.

MeatsOfRage ,

Apple TV+ is an app though (which I never use). I'm talking about the operating system and the extended area above the apps is only applicable to the apps you put there (all of which for me just show the stuff you're currently watching).

MeatsOfRage ,

Regardless of the function, Netflix paid to get their name advertised right on the remote.

https://moonlight-stream.org/

Just to add some details to that link, it's a network streaming app that lets you remote into another machine and depending on your network configuration it's often fast and responsive enough to play games (I played through Celeste which is a very twitchy precision platformer with no issues). It's also just cool streaming something like Cyberpunk on ultra settings to your phone. There are moonlight clients for nearly any device.

To host moonlight you used to be able to just do it natively through Nvidia gamestream but they turned that feature off. You can use Sunshine now to host https://github.com/LizardByte/Sunshine

MeatsOfRage OP ,

Good to hear. I'll give it a shot, thanks!

Is there an easy way to stream full bluray disc rips with menus and features over the network to my TV

Most of my collection is just the movie rips of just the video that play fine in Plex or Jellyfin. I've got a couple of full disc rips though that have the menus and features and all just like you would if you put the disc in. I can open these in VLC on my computer by choosing the folder....

MeatsOfRage OP ,

Space isn't really an issue for me and I already have converted versions of these movies. For a select few all time favorites and discs where the full experience is part of the package (like the Criterion) I want to maintain the full bluray experience with all the special features and menus.

MeatsOfRage OP ,

Yea I tried this, I think the app versions of VLC only open single files, they didn't port the open disc feature.

MeatsOfRage OP ,

I don't think jellyfin can open bluray discs can it?

MeatsOfRage OP ,

Can you explain a bit about Kodi playing the discs? I've been toying around with this all morning but can't figure out how to launch the ripped disc. I've setup my network files and browsed to the folder with the ripped disc but there's no way I can see to actually open the folder as a disc that I can see and googling this has failed me.

MeatsOfRage OP ,

Thanks! I'll give it a shot

MeatsOfRage OP ,

Yea, looks like infuse does a good job at just playing the movie both in folder format or ISO which is cool. Instantly recognized the movie. No menus unfortunately :/

Think I might just be barking up a nonexistent tree

MeatsOfRage ,

Of course you can't see it, if it's in their back pocket they're going to be sitting on it. Is the photographer supposed to get up their ass to get the battery pack in frame. If you uncropped the photo you would just see more of their bodies and that's completely unnecessary for something you wear on your face. Don't get me wrong I think everything about the Vision Pro is nonsense but this article is some clickbatey horse-shit.

MeatsOfRage ,

Exactly, people get to caught up in the Digital Foundry-ification of ultra max settings running at a perfect ~120 unlocked frames. Relax my dudes and remember the best games of your life were perfect dark with your friends running at 9 FPS.

1080p is fine, medium settings are fine. If the game is good you won't sweat the details.

MeatsOfRage ,

How is retail not their demographic? All the marketing for this thing has people sitting on the couch, watching movies, viewing their children's photos in 3D, relaxation and meditation, taking photos with the headset on at a kids birthday, playing NBA 2K24, browsing news, spacial audio. Even the work stuff is pushing things like FaceTime and virtual screens. If retail consumers aren't their demographic someone should let the marketing department know

MeatsOfRage ,

All you have to do is change your user agent. This is just a way for Microsoft to wash their hands of browser support outside of WebKit
