I love the Richard Scarey books. My favorite was. "What Do People Do All Day."

The book would should things like how electricity is made or how to build a house. It would show all the plumbing, heating and electric, with little arrows to show which way things went. It taught me how to look beneath the surface of things and wonder how and why things worked.

I like how the vehicles match the drivers: the mice driving the cheese mobile, the dog driving the hot dog mobile. etc.

Both parties have been moving steadily to the right for the last 40 years. So now, the Democrats are where the Republicans were in the 1980s: boring corporatists and friends of banks, pharmaceutical and insurance companies.

And the Republicans have moved all the way into an insane asylum.

Reddit: 'We Are in the Early Stages of Monetizing Our User Base' (www.404media.co)

Reddit said in a filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission that its users’ posts are “a valuable source of conversation data and knowledge” that has been and will continue to be an important mechanism for training AI and large language models. The filing also states that the company believes “we are in the early...

"Early Stages?" You've got AI mining your data. The Lions have already come and gone. The hyenas and other scavengers are picking over the scraps, now.

Yeah, subby. We get it. "Both sides are bad." But one side is boring corporatists who don't give a crap and the other side is 100% concentrated evil fascists, authoritarians and religious nutjobs. And while that's a choice between the lesser of two evils, it's not a difficult one.

It's not about the gays vs straights or blacks vs whites or the Romulans vs The Federation. It's about the billionaires vs everybody else. It's a class war. It aways has been. And life is never going to improve for most of us until we figure out where the REAL source of our pain comes from. Like George Carlin once said:

"That's the way the ruling class works in any society. They keep the lower and middle classes fighting with each other so that they . . . the rich . . . can run off with all the f*cking money."

This is going to be a great year for indie games.
(Currently playing, "Techtonica.")

I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of gaffes Biden has made over the last two years.

Trump can't go a single day without making a fool out of himself.

I don't know anyone who would accept an HP printer even as a gift. If I got one, I would recreate that scene from "Office Space" and bust it up with a sledgehammer.

But what about the billionaires?
Who's helping them out, huh?

NutWrench ,
@NutWrench@lemmy.ml avatar

No. It's money. Money doesn't buy happiness but it DOES solve 95% of the problems in your life that cause UN-happiness.

This is exactly the kind of economy I would expect out of billionaires who are trying to destroy the middle class and bring back Company Towns. This is what 19th century robber-baron capitalism looks like, not the kind you were taught by Elmer Fudd.

This. It's a typical example of how conservatives are utterly clueless about American symbols. Like how they adopted Springsteen's "Born in the USA" thinking it's a patriotic jingle, when the song is completely critical of the USA. Just read the lyrics of the song for God's sake.

But the only thing Goober Nation hears is "Born in the USA."

NutWrench ,
@NutWrench@lemmy.ml avatar

It's propaganda. Cops have a serious image problem in the US so they cynically co-opted an American flag for their cause, figuring that people won't criticize the FLAG, right? It's a marketing strategy that only appeals to folks who already have a child-like worship of authority.

Techtonica is early access and looks like it's going to be amazing.

The real problem is old companies like EA and Bethesda releasing crap on Launch Day and expecting its customers to be its beta testers for the next couple of years while they slowly patch the game into a playable state. (Or not. Why should they care? They got your money.)

The purpose of language is to reveal and convey meaning and thought. Euphemisms and euphemistic language are designed to control how you talk about certain subjects and consequently, how you think about them. People who try to control how you think NEVER have anyone's "best interests" in mind but their own.

Don't let other people tell you how to manage your own head.

If YouTube stops working, it won't be the end of streaming video. Thousands of porn sites manage to do it. It may take several years, but something else will come along to take YouTube's place. In the meantime, we will have other stuff to do.

And the "liberal news media" controls all the information. You know, that media that is all owned by about six corporations.

Look up "news consolidation" sometime. In the 1980s, all the news outlets were ultimately owned by about 30-40 companies.

Some people utterly lack an instinct for self-preservation, like cave divers and base jumpers.

Of course it's a mystery. An honest discussion about why orphan-crushing machines need to exist would lead to an honest discussion about where your society's pain really comes from.

And the owner class doesn't want that discussion to happen. Because it would come out that they don't pay their fair share of the tax burden, which would keep orphan-crushing machines from existing in the first place.

Yeah, advertising is not "free speech." It's a way for corporations to steal your life from you, 60 seconds at a time

"liberal economics" ? Seriously?
This flowchart describes every POS robber baron capitalist for the last several centuries.
