A PR disaster: Microsoft has lost trust with its users, and Windows Recall is the straw that broke the camel's back (www.windowscentral.com)

It's a nightmare scenario for Microsoft. The headlining feature of its new Copilot+ PC initiative, which is supposed to drive millions of PC sales over the next couple of years, is under significant fire for being what many say is a major breach of privacy and security on Windows. That feature in question is Windows Recall, a...

You could try win 10 iot ltsc 2021 out. It gets security support until 2032.

He probably means one of these (or both):

  1. New York Times is a huge corporation. The commenter would only support a site which is run by one creator, or with a genuine small team, which is transparent and not an asshole.

  2. New York Times is biased politically or accepting bribery attempts from other corpos to make them look in a better light.

PrivateNoob ,
@PrivateNoob@sopuli.xyz avatar

Well it definitely seemed like that. Sorry I was just assuming, since most Lemmy people are really anti-establishment on everything basically.

PrivateNoob ,
@PrivateNoob@sopuli.xyz avatar

Well yeah. This comment section is wild, that's for sure.

Curious, which of our equipment will need more energy? Do you mean electric vehicles?

PrivateNoob ,
@PrivateNoob@sopuli.xyz avatar

Just as much as YT, FB, Instagram and whatever else.

PrivateNoob ,
@PrivateNoob@sopuli.xyz avatar

Well that could definitely be the case. I'm amazed how well intact is Twitter still in terms of userbase, despite all the dramas.

PrivateNoob ,
@PrivateNoob@sopuli.xyz avatar

Very few of us most definitely (me too, 23), but if necessity brings us back to paper maps, then we are going to get used to it, just as you were.

Wtf the Meat Industry copied Auschwitz? 💀

And here I thought watching my grandma's pig slaughter was painful by just slicing their throats. Holy shit.

PrivateNoob ,
@PrivateNoob@sopuli.xyz avatar

Well there are ethical meats out there, right? I have always eaten my grandma's homemade chickens.

PrivateNoob ,
@PrivateNoob@sopuli.xyz avatar

Well 196 got some uptake in terms of animal cruelty posts, but it gives a good highlight to us about this issue.

Typing as a meat eater.

PrivateNoob ,
@PrivateNoob@sopuli.xyz avatar

I think it is sorta well-known that the meat industry is doing evil practices, but we just sorta unfortunately roll with it, because it would require to majorly change our lifestyle, most likely not being able to use like 50-70% of family recipes, opting for noticeably pricier free range type of meats, or growing their own chickens (with today's property sizes, it's pretty challenging) etc.

That also includes me too, I was enjoying homemade chickens for a long time, but that have came to a halt. I will definitely try out a 1 month vegetarian challenge, but I don't it would be feasible for me for the rest of my life.

I hope others will be mightier and stronger than I am tho. You are doing noble things, dear vegans and vegetarians.

PrivateNoob ,
@PrivateNoob@sopuli.xyz avatar

Healthy property prices could greatly help too, in terms of having more locally nurtured chickens as an example.

Idk anything about Kbin nowadays, but could this outage really be related to homophobia?

If for some reason, the owner of Kbin.social's protest against Pride month is shutting down the servers, then what purpose does this protest even fulfill? They can only lose users by not having a reliable 24/7 service providing.

I don't think so that this is the reason for the outage, but please convince me, if you have some proof or fair logic in this topic.

PrivateNoob ,

I don't think so that Skyline meant their comment as harassment. I take it as a silly comment to a silly meme.

PrivateNoob ,
@PrivateNoob@sopuli.xyz avatar

It's highly likely that they haven't seen your response. Assuming from myself I usually respond between 5 minutes and 2 days. Give it a day, if they don't respond after that, then that could be treated as ghosting.

Thank you for the link. It seems rather surprising by how many woman apparently chooses the bear option. I understand their reasoning but I thought it would be 60/40 favoring the bear.

Well that sounds sadly realistic, but honestly the 1 in 4 attempted or completed rape is miles away more shocking. I'm so out of touch with reality damn.

1000+ Firefox for Android extensions now available – Mozilla Add-ons Community Blog (blog.mozilla.org)

The new open ecosystem of extensions on Firefox for Android launched in December with just over 400 extensions. Less than five months later we’ve surpassed 1,000 Firefox for Android extensions. That’s an impressive achievement by this developer community! It’s exciting to see so many developers embrace the opportunity to...

Well change can only be done through voicing disapproval first, although Google will most definitely won't stop the data gathering in Maps.

Well It's understandable if a lot of people wouldn't switch over to OSM-based apps. I've tried OSMAnd, and I observe 3 drawbacks. Lengthy public transport calculation (fair since it's computing on the phone), no reviews in POI areas (really hard to catch up on), weird results in transportations

PrivateNoob ,
@PrivateNoob@sopuli.xyz avatar

Absolutely agreed.

PrivateNoob ,
@PrivateNoob@sopuli.xyz avatar

Reviews most definitely. Hard to beat that

PrivateNoob ,
@PrivateNoob@sopuli.xyz avatar

I think a little bit of marketing can't hurt, but purely relying on hype marketig probably doesn't as much, as before, although there will always be people that can be persuaded into preorder by marketing. (Or if you still have a few amounts of studios where you have enough trust in them to preorder)

PrivateNoob OP ,

Naaah I've exactly did 0 thinking while making this meme.

Interpret it as you wish.

PrivateNoob ,

Woah Apple lost the top spot in a quarter when they don't release any phones, but Samsung does.

PrivateNoob ,
@PrivateNoob@sopuli.xyz avatar

Yeah probably there are other factors in the play here too. I agree, it's definitely overkill, but it seems this spam phones tactic is working well for their revenues then.

PrivateNoob ,
@PrivateNoob@sopuli.xyz avatar

Idunno, but I expect from them to finally widen the front end core width (decode width).

@PrivateNoob@sopuli.xyz avatar

Holy shit now this is a PEAK meme. Great find.

PrivateNoob ,
@PrivateNoob@sopuli.xyz avatar

True but don't forget that we probably enjoy the benefits of ad-based internet. If way more people would adblock than currently, then a lot of sites may need to resort to paywalled or whatever other type of monetisation. Happy UbO user tho.

How tf can you defend such a nefarious company?

PrivateNoob ,
@PrivateNoob@sopuli.xyz avatar

Actually this also sounds believable. XD

What non-FOSS software have you been unable to quit?

For me, Google video search, Google books (Internet Archive is good, but doesn't always have the same stuff), Adobe InDesign (but in the process of learning LaTeX), and Typewise. As for the Google stuff, I liked Whoogle a lot, but almost all their instances seem to have been blocked or shut down. Also, apologies if this is...

Unfortunately OSM won't be able to compete with user reviews for example (except if we steal those from Google). Also a bunch of shops can't be seen there, which is crucial for me to discover cheap restaurants.

But OSM's bike routes are 10/10.

PrivateNoob ,

It seems Twitter isn't the only one on the decline trend. Good job, burgerlanders.

PrivateNoob ,
@PrivateNoob@sopuli.xyz avatar

My philosophy is to just focus on 1 or few communities, instead of having a bunch of communities which will lack (more) content, but I hope it works out for you. Well gametheorists has grabbed my attention ngl. ^^

Please Signal, use this opportunity. I really want to be on Signal AAAAH

1.8 billion fine and that's only 0.5% of Apple's yearly revenue. That's insane.

PrivateNoob ,
@PrivateNoob@sopuli.xyz avatar

Nothing inherently wrong with reposts from Reddit. It can't be expected that a small community as Lemmy, would need to create OG content primarily.

A lot of Redditors hate the Reddit IPO | Reddit warned us that its users were a risk factor, and boy do they sound excited about shorting its stock. (www.theverge.com)

A lot of Redditors hate the Reddit IPO | Reddit warned us that its users were a risk factor, and boy do they sound excited about shorting its stock.::Reddit seems like a likely candidate for a meme stock. But the actual reaction suggests that r/WallStreetBets isn’t going to send the stock to the moon.

Lemmy needs a lot of ironing out to be acceptable for the masses.
