SuddenDownpour ,

Since I have no horse in this race, I can proudly say that both American English and English English are wrong. The English language as a whole is wrong. Thank you, I'll come back later to impart more wisdom.

SuddenDownpour ,

"These are our ANCIENT TRADITIONS"

Yeah sure they are buddy, people in this town were totally exploding fireworks 300 years ago at 4AM. Is being a drunkard your family tradition too?

SuddenDownpour ,

I'm pretty sure people everywhere want "freedom to" have a house, buy groceries and receive good healthcare, which are the most practical forms of positive freedoms in politics.

SuddenDownpour ,

I don't disagree, my point is that people in this thread have got positive and negative freedoms and rights mixed up

SuddenDownpour ,

I'm getting y'all collared, because none of you is going to take charge otherwise. Come on, we're going for walkies.

SuddenDownpour ,

You will be one of us. One of us. One of us. One of us.

SuddenDownpour ,

Greedy fuckers are going to be making anything worse, but that only means that a complete utopia is impossible, not that all systems are going to be equally bad. Would you argue that the average absolute monarchy would have just as much abuse as your average liberal democracy?

SuddenDownpour ,

That's because not much people care about art that doesn't have wide appeal, so there's even less of a chance of anyone making themselves that question.

SuddenDownpour ,

Geez, I forgot, okay? Why do you think I need the pills.

SuddenDownpour ,

Congratulations, the trolley has derailed, crashing into the ground between the two groups of tied up people. All the passengers inside the trolley are now dead.

SuddenDownpour ,

Oh, TIL, that's cool

SuddenDownpour ,

Not sure what that game is, but it looks like a point and click adventure.

SuddenDownpour ,

I mean, no wonder they aren't doing any 69.

SuddenDownpour ,

Nope, sorry, you can't not be depressed. It's the price you had to pay for your university degree in truth.

Not a woman, but a some teenager girls I met in high school were absolutely vicious.

SuddenDownpour ,

Unfortunately you only get a good overview by being here a long time and paying a bit of attention to the seasonal drama. The biggest pointers, to my knowledge, would be that a lot of instances are defederated with lemmygrad and hexbear (but not all), because otherwise the bad faith campism and trolling gets unbearable, world is defederated with the piracy instance, and virtually every large server is defederated with "free speech absolutists" who let their instances fester with far right types.

SuddenDownpour ,

Also Evangelicals: No, no, why do you bring up the Pope, we're talking about CHRISTIANS, not CATHOLICS.

SuddenDownpour ,

Oh wowie don't tell the Goths how sackeable my house is right now 😬😬😬

SuddenDownpour ,

I take it you've already expressed to him that you miss feeling like you're actually communicating with him? I doubt it'd be a magic pill that would solve the issue away, but it would likely help if he could interiorize that his loved ones appreciate him for being who he is. I wish things get better for you.

SuddenDownpour ,

As an alt of The Picard Manouver, I can attest to that.

SuddenDownpour ,

Same thing Conservatives are doing in Europe with public healthcare.

SuddenDownpour ,

I don't want to be a mod, but respect to those who do it out of wanting to help their communities.

SuddenDownpour ,

I kid you not, all that kind of personal history creates a massive sunk cost fallacy that will make it impossible for them to admit that they may possibly be wrong.

SuddenDownpour ,

Be pragmatic in your atheism advocacy. Lay out your arguments why supernatural thinking is bad, both from an epistemological and pragmatic sense, poke at contradictions of the other person's religion with reality, and warn about the dangers of organized religion specifically, just don't cross the line of actually engaging in nuclear warfare.

If they haven't been brainwashed enough, they'll bite, even if it takes them months. If they have been brainwashed enough but they have intellectual honesty and curiosity, they may begin a self-questioning process themselves that will eventually make them crash, and it will be painful, but once they get recovered they'll be grateful. If they don't have that intellectual honesty, you've at least planted the potential seeds for them to decide at some later point that superstition was indeed bullshit, which may or may not come into fruition in the future. If the person you're talking with is an intellectual donkey (in terms of unwillingness to reason), you have nothing to gain from that conversation.

When it comes to old religious people, though, I limit myself to relentlessly attacking the church. Due to their material conditions, they have the lowest chance to ever leaving their beliefs anyway, so my goal is just to make them wary of any dumbfuck hate preacher they may find.

SuddenDownpour ,

Besides, hasn’t the point of machines always been to reduce the workload on people?

Which takes us to the ages-old capital-labor contradiction. Technological advancement is good, but because technology under capitalism primarily comes under the ownership of capitalists, workers aren't guaranteed to enjoy its benefits, and will be thrown under the bus unless there's they're strongly unionized.

SuddenDownpour ,

Oh, jeez, I forgot that page in the Communist Manifesto where Carlos Marcos said: "SOCIALISM IS INCOMPATIBLE WITH MODERN MEDICINE. COMMUNISM IS INCOMPATIBLE WITH CIVILIZATION."

SuddenDownpour ,

20 minutes is too much? Jesus, people have no patience nowadays.

SuddenDownpour ,

Some mental disorders are frequently used to pathologize people who are outside the typically accepted norms of society, the same way being gay or trans used to be different disorders decades or years ago.

SuddenDownpour ,

Turns out the dude reported OP's wife because she rejected his sexual advances at a party. Honestly, it would be cool to be at the turning point of history where assholes like him are the ones who get put in jail, rather than women who happen to have weird artificial porn. Sounds like she has a decent shot.

SuddenDownpour ,

I don't know about that mod specifically, but most NSFW Skyrim mods are at Loverslab.

SuddenDownpour ,

Problem is those people didn't want to listen to doctors who had the nuanced view of "there might be issues with a vaccine which development we've had to accelerate, but the alternative of not taking it is demonstrably worse for everyone", they only wanted to listen to the people who shared their position.

SuddenDownpour ,

The measures worked much better on the countries that applied them more throughly. As far as European countries go, Italy got struck the earliest without taking measures and their healthcare system collapsed; Spain took note of the situation, applied extremely harsh measures, and while some regions went through severe problems, we got through it far better than Italy.

SuddenDownpour ,

I'm comparing very similar countries in terms of culture, economics, geographical region, climate, education and technology, which are in the same market and have freedom of movement towards each other, except during the lockdowns.

SuddenDownpour ,

Joker was really close to being a great movie, but was ultimately too confused about what it wanted its message to be. Unless the message was just "I'm fed up, let's get violent already".

SuddenDownpour ,

Amazingly enough, this is the first comment I find on blahaj that has so many instance-specific downvotes that I see not just downvoted, but legitimately ratio'ed.

Don't come back when you get kicked out.

SuddenDownpour ,

If it wasn't for his position regarding Israel and Palestine, I would have been pleasantly surprised by Biden overall. His administration seemed to be making a lot of good moves for a bunch of liberals.

SuddenDownpour ,

Today's engineering is the past century's science fiction.

SuddenDownpour ,

He knew you wanted a xbox because he was stalking you.

SuddenDownpour ,

Thanks, you've just convinced me that internet was a mistake.

SuddenDownpour ,

I haven't checked it out and I'd be open to review the evidence in its favor, the reason behind my comment was this:

Unfortunately, y’all atheists don’t believe in magic (...) You won’t mix science and religion, so you can’t innovate as much

By definition, if something is observed to behave according to logical laws, it is not supernatural, and therefore not magic. Religion by definition requires faith, and if you're using faith specifically for your scientific endeavors, you're doing science wrong.

SuddenDownpour ,

I'm going to be charitable and assume that you're describing faith as something that may be studied by science, which I have no issues with.

If you think faith is required at any point of the methodology of the scientific method, you should go back to middle school.

SuddenDownpour ,

isn’t it better to start with a friendship, with no intent on starting a relationship but going there once we find out that it’s somewhere we both want to progress to

I definitely think this is much healthier, but if you don't have the time to make a large network of friends until it turns out one of them happens to be single, interested in you, and has known you for a long while, it just isn't a choice.

how can something be so courageous and yet so true (slrpnk.net)

Edit: Jesus Christ, people. If you buy a $150 Thinkpad made by slave labor instead of a $1,200 MacBook made by slave labor, you're still supporting a capitalist economy based on slave labor. We all do. We have no choice. The number of smug liberals in the comments saying "well I buy a cheap used laptop" or "well I buy coffee...

SuddenDownpour ,

If everyone is going to be paid fairly for their labor, plenty of electronics are going to dramatically rise in price, as they rely in materials that are often obtained through people working in miserable conditions, sometimes reaching extremes such as child slavery.

I for one am willing to pay more if that means we fight against the abuse generated by this system.
