Same happened to me when I tried to sell my old powerline network adapters. Sign up, put them up for sale, 2 minutes later I get a mail that I'm banned without a reason given.

I still have those adapters lying around somewhere...

If one does that, be prepared to defend yourself against the copyright infringement lawsuit that's coming your way eventually.

In that case why block the add-ons in the first place? There is a risk that the "Mozilla is blocking privacy friendly add-ons on the behest of an authoritarian regime!" news will become more widely known than any correction. If it had been a planned PR move then any person involved in it should never work in marketing again.

I was thinking the whole week if I should vote the greens or the pirates but due to the recurring campaigns to establish a surveillance state I did end up voting pirates. Incredibly disheartened they didn't get a seat :(

HP bricks ProBook laptops with bad BIOS delivered via automatic updates — many users face black screen after Windows pushes new firmware (www.tomshardware.com)

On May 26, a user on HP's support forums reported that a forced, automatic BIOS update had bricked their HP ProBook 455 G7 into an unusable state. Subsequently, other users have joined the thread to sound off about experiencing the same issue....

Takios ,
@Takios@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

I remember warning labels on BIOS updates that basically said that if nothing is broken, don't do the update because the risk of bricking the device did not outweigh any potential benefits. That vendors are now pushing mandatory BIOS updates through Windows Update is terrifying.

I'm not the biggest fan of capitalism myself but the existence of debt does not mean it is broken. Debt is a mechanism to allow for solid investments, e.g. building infrastructure or schools that will create a net positive in the (far) future.
Germany for example has enacted a Schuldenbremse (debt-break) in 2009 and forbids our states to take on new debt and limits the debt taken on the federal level to a minisule percentage of the GDP. Our infrastructure is currently slowly but noticeably crumbling away, bridges are getting closed for heavy traffic and experts say many of them have become irreparable due to missing maintenance and need to be fully rebuild in a few years. The local military barracks are in such a desolate condition that the soldiers need to drive two towns over to shower. We might not take on financial debt, but an infrastructure debt that will demand an even bigger toll on us.

I've seen that done for configuration management like Salt or Ansible. The repos for that were always hosted on internal Gitlab instances though.

It's great for some people, awful for others. It became a meme because it started to be suggested to everyone even though it's an awful first introduction to the Linux ecosystem.

People can get into this weird fixation mode where when they made a decision then nothing can keep them from doing it except if it's physically impossible.

I think there are two areas missing in this picture so that's probably a contributing factor.

PayPal Is Planning an Ad Business Using Data on Its Millions of Shoppers (www.wsj.com)

Wall Street Journal (paywalled) The digital payments company plans to build an ad sales business around the reams of data it generates from tracking the purchases as well as the broader spending behaviors of millions of consumers who use its services, which include the more socially-enabled Venmo app....

Please no. :( I do like 99.99% of online payments through them because the convenience they offer is really great, especially with recurring payments. :/

I tried it out and it has some issues here and there but seems to be on a good track to become a good Mediaplayer. I'm not 100% happy with Strawberry and used to use Amarok way back when before I switched to the, now un-maintained, Cantata. I'll definitely follow the development of this.

I have a big library of music, mostly MP3 or OGG and don't really see myself pivoting solely towards streaming services where access to songs could be revoked at any time or could be changed/censored like movies or series sometimes are on streaming platforms. I do use YouTube for listening to new music and when I like it enough, I buy it to download (or acquire it in a different way if it's not available).

It certainly needs a special type of person I think. We are both very independent people for example and we value alone-times.
It helps that we have a common interest that can be shared via the distance: Playing videogames and watching shows like Star Trek together.

Yeah, being able to seamlessly switch between the desktop app and mobile is a must for me so that's something I already prefer in Signal.

So far I'm inclined to believe Joost's side of the story. Firstly because innocent until proven guilty. Secondly, because the other side doesn't tell its side of the story at all.
I think the EBU should have operated under the innocent until proven guilty assumption, especially since they now have opened a way to get rid of competition, just accuse them of assault shortly before the main event.

No, the equivalent would be a kernel panic that the other user had linked. This is a situation where the RAM is fully used and a program's request for memory cannot be fulfilled. This is still a very bad situation because pretty much everything will grind to a halt. The Linux kernel thus makes a decision to kill a process (or multiple) until enough RAM is available again. Usually it kills the process with the most used RAM, but there's methods to influence the decision.

It's the other way around in my country. The more votes the middle and left parties lost, the further they moved to the right in an attempt to claw back votes. But then there was a huge protest campaign against the right and the right started losing votes in our regular surveys (though still much too strong).
So I urge you to vote for your option that is not regularly talking about using fascist methods and undoing gained freedoms "on day one".

There were grassroots movements like the Limux project (Munich using a custom Linux distribution). But that got shut down by Microsoft bribery (not confirmed, but MS did build a new headquarters in Munich...).

I don’t know what happens if a significant amount of yt users used freetube. but that probably won’t happen.

Look at what happened with Nitter (alternative Twitter frontend). They'll start changing around things so often that alternative frontends break every few days.

Most responses tell you to add them yourself which is a solution to this problem. But I think the reason why the state of businesses on OSM and Organic Maps (which uses OSM as a source) is so dire is interesting too:

OSM must not use other maps as sources. In fact, they must not use any information that hasn't been licensed in a way that specifically allows OSM to use it. As such, they can't just go to Google Maps and copy all the business information over because Google has not licensed that information in an open way. Information like streets, paths or houses can be gleaned from satellite pictures that have been provided to OSM and can be put in easily so they tend to be up-to-date. But for businesses, someone has to actually go there and confirm the information.

Now why is Google so good at that? Because almost every business owner makes sure to put their business on GMaps themselves and keep that information updated so it doesn't depend on one person going through the area regularly.
