I had that, and still get it from time to time, but found that if I wait until I've eaten to drink tea that it feels fine.

Coffee on an empty stomach is nothing, but strong tea on an empty stomach has me feeling like being assaulted at a molecular level

UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

Black tea to me feels like the sledgehammer, whereas coffee is this smooth slightly syrupy beverage, that feels much more delicate. Case in point for me, I prefer my coffee black, but I would have a hard time handling a cup of tea without at least a bit of oat milk.

I don't know where tea gets this "gentle" PR from but I find it highly dishonest and honestly I'm tired of keeping my mouth shut about it so there now I've said it

UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

Thank you, no one has ever accused me of looking at a situation objectively and I'm not about to start now, anyway now everyone sign my petition to put warning labels on tea

Yeah hitting "save file" and not actually hearing the sound of the file being written to disk was enough to give you a chill

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

Literally shuddering. RIP The epic Doom megawad I was working on for two years 😥

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

Yeah you can tell the installer just had a time limit hard-coded, like it took them about two minutes on their test machine,

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

    If you've got 2 000 worth of V S M, I don't see why not

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

Yeah if investors can't make cartoonish returns for doing literally nothing what's even the point of gouging customers??

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

My dad has been that guy! We sure ate a lottt of Silver Wok during that time 😋

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

That's where the laws come in. I don't agree that recording and biometric information on people should be legally protected, unless you ask for permission first.

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

Well yeah, one of them involves standing up to corpos and the other one would require actually talking to your kids, and conservatives are nothing if not cowardly, so

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

    People will be laid off
    Spoils will be enjoyed
This great economy... it will endure
    The working class will survive!

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

I think people miss an important point in these selloffs. It's not just the raw text that's valuable, but the minute interactions between networks of users people.

Like the timings between replies and how vote counts affect not just engagement, but the tone of replies, and their conversion rate.

I've could imagine a sort of "script" running for months, haunting your every move across the internet, constantly running personalised little a/b tests, until a tactic is found to part you from your money.

I mean this tech exists now, but it's fairly "dumb." But it's not hard to see how AI will make it much more pernicious.

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

I dunno looks like a hair away from a silly billy to me

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

Makes sense since his cereal turns to goop after being in contact with milk for like three seconds

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

    Also prescribing orgasms!

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

My wife has been telling me this and I find it really upsetting. Like what am I supposed to use for stir-fry? Good, damn... fresh? steaming rice?? 🤢

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

I didn't even grow to that poor, but knew people who ate worse just because the battle of everyday life took every last ounce of gumption they had.

Luckily my ma knew about food and cooking, so we did alright, but I had a lot of little friends who were totally totally lost when it came to feeding themselves.

Hell right now I know middle aged men pulling six figures who are hurting nutritionally, and it's like impossible to educate them to a better way to take care of themselves, despite money not actually being an issue

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

I'm happy that no matter how bad things were for you that you had the wherewithal to feed yourself properly. It doesn't sound like you've experienced a lot of privilege, but that is one area where you can count yourself fortunate.

Similarly, I've been homeless but I always made sure that I could get some food into me somewhere. Usually shelters, soup kitchens, food banks

This but with perl compatible regular expressions

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

Man I'd be so mad if I'd built up a sweet severance, only to have to quit for better work

This is called the "network effect," so called after the Murderbot novel of the same name (recommended). It's what makes social medias, aggregators, and service platform so "sticky." It's what makes platform-capitalism work.

It also makes nice things work too, ofc.

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

And they're sticking with that name? ... huh

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

Let's do both! I welcome our imperfect solarpunk future with open arms

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

Same. It's like a tic, I'm compelled to mutter "fewer" in my mind, or else I can't keep paying attention

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

I mean I hadn't seen this until now, so thank you

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

Well done, got my hackles up with at least 3 of those.

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

I love that there are still kids learning this hard lesson in the year 2024.

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

Yeah you could have not bought like 5 xboxes instead

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

Me when I run sudo apt update in one window while top is running in other 😎

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

It's funny because I always heard that the rich preferred perfumes over bathing, and looked down on peasants for their bathing, especially public baths.

No source. It's just what I heard. Even if it's true, who knows what era and people it applied to.

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

Would love to see those numbers go up

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

Also even if there was a quantum tech leap, if there even appetite for it except among gear heads and enthusiasts? It's not like the hardware is falling apart like a cyber truck in a trail yard or anything

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

That right there is a silly billy and cutie p'tootie for real

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

CEOs like this are aiming to indirectly rule/control others with their money

It breaks their little heads that they can have all this money and power, and yet still a random poor person has the legal right to say "no" to them.

They don't understand why the state doesn't work 100% just for them.

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

“We’ve replaced some pieces of that political machine—specifically, we have parallel media now with Elon’s Twitter, or X,” crowed Tan during a presentation at the 2023 Network State Conference. “Getting a parallel media was a key piece, and it wasn’t through voting. It was done by building.… [...]

Got it so parallel means privatised. He's a privatisation hawk.

What a tool. A cat would not even sit on his lap.

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

    Parallel means poopie

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

Ah, argument from nature. Word to the wise: I used to find that fallacy compelling too, until I realized I with picking and choosing which parts of "nature" sounded right to me.

Kropotkin did it, and so do the momfluencers, and manosphere talking heads,. Even though they have widely contradictory takes.

It's not a good pillar for reason. It's another misty ideology, that only obscures your sources.

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

I don't but I feel weird not having water by the bed, just in case. I've been doing it so long I don't even question it. Like I barely ever drink water in bed, so I could easily skip it

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

    So hydrated. Good for you

    UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT ,

One hundred. It was like having an excuse to be a loner while also contributing to society, but by your absence from it. You got the feeling that everyone was cooped up for the good of each other, trying to ride this thing out. A beautiful hybrid lonely-solidarity: a unique feeling that will never happen like that again.
