You forgot multi-monitor support. The extension broke for me a couple of years back and the author became AWOL. My workaround is to open the clock app on my secondary monitor when gaming in order to track time now that I can't see the clock in the taskbar.

VonReposti ,

Also Denmark is one of those weird countries where its illegal to have your map software tell you where the speed cameras are.

That is not true at all. The police has even officially recommended the use of speed trap avoidance software. We even have an entire market of it, most notably with Saphe that's probably the world's biggest producer of traffic alarms.

VonReposti ,

Well, not that shocked.

Coming to terms with no longer having privacy and control over my technology

I miss the days of VHS and DVD shelfs in homes, for example. If you bought the tapes and had them in your home, no corporate entity could alter those tapes without your consent, monitor how many times you watch them, sell your data to whomever they please without your knowledge, roll out new mandatory conditions to a 'user...

VonReposti ,

Especially because you can just throw it in Proton

VonReposti ,

Nextcloud won't be able to recognise new files if you do it that way. A full scan will be needed before they'll show up in the web app.

VonReposti ,

Does mxroute support a multi-user setup, say one for each family member?

I'm currently looking at switching to a new provider and haven't found the perfect replacement yet.

VonReposti ,

Update your filters, it's a recent issue with Qwant which uBlock at least have fixed.

VonReposti ,

Only lunatics buy drives over 10 TB.

Hey! No need to call us out like that.

VonReposti ,

I can recommend a Vero from osmc.tv, it runs Kodi underneath.

VonReposti ,

While I still support UBI, last time robots replaced people doing repetitive tasks, people did find other jobs. Actually there was much bigger unemployment in Britain where the auto industry crumbled since they couldn't compete with the rest of the world using robots.

VonReposti ,

At least in Denmark it's illegal to use the word 'juice' if there's any sugar water in it. If I see a juice on the self I can be certain it is 100% juice (maybe made from concentrate but that must be written somewhere). If it's not then it is "nektar"

VonReposti ,

The closest I can think of is a Vero from osmc.tv but that's breaking the 100 mark.

I've got the old Vero 4K model and it works like a dream in conjunction with my Jellyfin server (it's essentially a Kodi box so you can save media on it locally too).

I got one shipped to Denmark after brexit and IIRC they handled all the customs and everything.

Ninja edit: It looks like you'll pay taxes and customs fees on top of it if you order directly, so it might be a good idea to hunt for a reseller: https://discourse.osmc.tv/t/european-orders/96161/2 - apparently I was lucky and happened to order when they were trialling IOSS

VonReposti ,

EULAs are already by definition unenforceable in the EU

VonReposti ,

In EU at least there's a new law-mandated warranty period for the replaced part but I of course can't say if this holds true where you live.

What can you get to within a 15-minute walk of your house?

A recent YouGov survey asked Americans what they think they should be able to get to within a 15-minute walk of their house.

Of these choices, I can currently walk to all of them from my apartment, aside from a university (no biggie, I'm not currently studying, although there is a Tafe within walking distance), a hospital, and a sports arena.

How many can you get to with a 15 minute walk from your house?

@fuck_cars

VonReposti ,

Same here but the arena and my work is within a 10-15min bike ride, so not that bad. But I'm not in the US too.

VonReposti ,

Fun fact, Finland and Sweden were also third world countries under this definition.

VonReposti ,

Why don't you stop doing the exact same thing you want others to stop doing?

VonReposti ,

As the famous words go; standards are good, double standards are double as good.

What you are essentially doing is that you are publicly lecturing people on public lecturing. The very same thing you despise, you're doing yourself.

The cause is lost the very same second that you cross your own line.

VonReposti ,

On Android I'd recommend just installing Firefox along with uBlock Origin

VonReposti ,

Software patents isn't a thing in Europe, so that doesn't hold any weight for Haier. Even their terms are null and void as is the case of almost all "terms of service" documents in Europe.

Does "Selfhosted" mean you actually have a server at home?

I'm trying to better understand hosting a Lemmy Instance. Lurking discussions it seems like some people are hosting from the Cloud or VPS. My understanding is that it's better to futureproof by running your own home server so that you have the data and the top most control of hardware, software etc. My understanding is that by...

Why not use an e-mail relay service like Addy.io or SimpleLogin.io? Much better than creating new e-mail accounts all the time.

But to answer your question. E-mails only get sent to wherever the MX records points to, so if your custom domain points to some e-mail service that is not Microsoft, Microsoft would never be able to intercept your e-mails.

VonReposti ,

Don't sue them, we're not the US. Make a complaint to your local DPA. If the offender needs to be pulled to court, the DPA will do so.

Difference is who's paying for the court case.
