That might be the "extremely expensive" repair. On a 10k car it's possible, though it might well be worth doing. Especially if owner or shop can source a good engine cheaply. But it's not going to be a small amount of work.

Selling the rest somewhere for repair or parts and cutting your losses is a good looking option, though that's not cheap either.

The most important answer seems to be missing:

You don't need to do any distro hopping or even care. Unless you picked a dead one or need something really obscure. They all have the same things and you can install anything on anything. Mostly. Difference is who's doing your installer and packaging and security and how.

You can, if you want to. And live systems are handy. Try what your like. Learn to change what you don't. All the tools and docs people have are out there for you and tens of thousands of people are busy making more.

Ad blocker is kind of a sad name for a content/spam filter, a vital security tool, but that's what we got. Especially since browsers naively didn't include filtering and block lists by default and they only became common as add-ons.

I used to have a Samsung laser for quite a few years. Went through maybe three toner cartridges. Eventually it started slipping and I didn't bother finding out if there's a repair available and bought a brother laser instead. Worked pretty great otherwise.

Haven't tried toner transfer on this, but regular printouts are fine and it's much faster.
