this post implies that you download debs from the internet instead of using your distro's package manager

also last I checked apt hasn't stopped being a cli over the years

Debian users try not to tell everyone at every opportunity to use Debian challenge (impossible)

@backhdlp@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

I think that's entirely a Hyprland problem. Iirc there's some option in the misc config group in the config to help mitigate that.

E: I meant specifically opengl:nvidia_anti_flicker

Yuri though, so good post

A concerning amount of Windows users say they're PC users.

obviously a weather app couldn't possibly use your location for anything, must be spyware

Meta+Q to close windows supremacy

backhdlp ,
@backhdlp@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

Why would you have more than one window per workspace?

backhdlp ,
@backhdlp@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

That already closes tabs tho

backhdlp ,
@backhdlp@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

I have one with 2, but I rarely need to close them at the same time, and when I do, I just hit Meta+Q twice.

backhdlp ,
@backhdlp@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

they used to be quite common, but nowadays you need to compile them yourself with the "replace-testosterone" patch. It's also recommended to use the "cat-ears" patch, and, if you can, also the "cat-tail" patch, but that isn't necesarily required to get it working.

Hyprland

@backhdlp@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

Mind the version of the wiki you're using. It follows git by default, but you're most likely using 0.38.0.

I use AnySoftKeyboard (fdroid github website). It has quite the amount of customizability. I like that there are arrow buttons to navigate text better.

backhdlp ,
@backhdlp@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

I used to have 9 in a 3x3 grid in Plasma, so I could always reach any workspace in two or less touchpad swipes.

backhdlp ,
@backhdlp@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

I'm on Hyprland now, which has more GNOME-like workspaces (created when needed)

The only distro we should worship is Hannah Montana Linux

Mac is when you're still small and don't have a concept of gender

It's not bloat if you use it.

backhdlp ,
@backhdlp@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

you're right, installing pandoc on arch really comes with a lot of bloat. Iirc it's >200 haskell libraries.

backhdlp ,
@backhdlp@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

smh get real, install Hyprland and 50 utilities for it (30 of those are sway utilities)

backhdlp , (edited )
@backhdlp@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

you're usually only using one at a time.

backhdlp ,
@backhdlp@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

I haven't had laptop-related issues on either

backhdlp ,
@backhdlp@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

no way anyone would voluntarily use apt after using pacman

backhdlp ,
@backhdlp@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

The difference here is more between release types, I think. Arch is rolling, so there are updates you can get every few minutes. Debian is a rock, and rocks aren't known for moving a lot.

(The command is sudo pacman -Syu btw)

What non-FOSS software have you been unable to quit?

For me, Google video search, Google books (Internet Archive is good, but doesn't always have the same stuff), Adobe InDesign (but in the process of learning LaTeX), and Typewise. As for the Google stuff, I liked Whoogle a lot, but almost all their instances seem to have been blocked or shut down. Also, apologies if this is...

backhdlp ,
@backhdlp@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

I haven't tried last.fm but I like ListenBrainz for that stuff.

Gentoo has version 3.0.x available

Unlike certain services, the main fdroid repo is pretty reliable

backhdlp ,
@backhdlp@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

you have to alias alias last, so it actually aliases.

Also, I wish there was a way to turn off that code block color formatting in Lemmy 0.19.x.

There is! Markdown supports

```<language>
to enable syntax highlighting in code blocks. If you have an invalid language (e.g. .), it will just disable syntax highlighting.
I don’t have a car, as I’m 17.
Try not to get one at all. You should have good enough public transport in the UK to get you around. Living in a place where everything you need is in easy walking distance is ideal, though not easily achievable for some. Also, (insert urbanism propaganda here).
Anyone else kinda scetched out by the title for Veritasium saying "Veratasium", or the title for dark.fail saying "dark.fail: is a .onon site online?" instead of "dark.fail: Which Tor sites are online?"?
The easy way to have both is:
  • be trans girl
  • get a gf who's also a nerd
  • not straight romance like on TV, but who cares, lesbians are better anyway.
