If the IT departments of any major corp allows anyone within their network to enable this feature, they and everyone the work for need a permanent waning label for idiocy and utter incompetence attached to their resume.

bob_lemon ,

Now I know what I'll watch for breakfast, thanks

bob_lemon ,

They did a video about alternatives to Adobe a while back. And while they generally liked and praised programs such as Affinity, they did conclude that as a company, even minor losses in productivity (e.g. for their editors) quickly add up.

So yeah, it would not be the first time they present and praise alternatives even of they don't end up using them.

bob_lemon ,

Don't worry, we have that registry in Germany as well. And you have to pay to get your own data from them (although a GDPR request works once a year)

bob_lemon ,

Luffy starts out at 17, but is 19 after the time skip. The youngest is actually Chopper, who is 15 at the time he joins the crew. But he's an anthropomorphic reindeer, so he gets a pass.

What works really well is that the characters actually do look and act their age for the most part.

After announcing increased prices, Spotify to Pay Songwriters About $150 Million Less Next Year (www.billboard.com)

When Bloomberg reported that Spotify would be upping the cost of its premium subscription from $9.99 to $10.99, and including 15 hours of audiobooks per month in the U.S., the change sounded like a win for songwriters and publishers. Higher subscription prices typically equate to a bump in U.S. mechanical royalties — but not...

bob_lemon ,

I switched to Tidal after Spotify announced the price increase. The catalogue is basically identical, the apps are much more intuitive, and the audio quality is higher (they recently rolled their premium FLAC subscription into the basic one).

I had to retrain the algorithm for a bit, but that was not so difficult. There are services that can migrate/convert playlists which might actually work for favourites as well.

Also, it's easy easier to download stuff from Tidal, which is very nice for listening to Audiobooks with a dedicated player.

I agree that live shows (and buying merch) is the best way to support artists.

But the CDNs required to run a music streaming service are anything but cheap.

Here in Germany, ascension day is also known as father's day. It's because Piccolo was such s good father figure for Gohan after his deadbeat dad was gone.

bob_lemon ,

I have a pair that zips open all the way, which is extremely convenient.

Cheaper labour in the most expensive town in a country that is well known for high labour costs?

bob_lemon ,

I has one in my old rig. Decided to replay Gothic, so I got out the disks to try installing it, which failed and I ended up buying it on GOG for 2,50€ instead.

I decided not to have an optical drive in my current machine.

bob_lemon ,

I man, a single torch solves this issue.

bob_lemon ,

That's how you find out if you're a knight radiant, right?

bob_lemon ,

Does that mean female werewolves should be called wowolves? (Or even better, woowolves)

bob_lemon ,

Automotive vim when?

bob_lemon ,

If you brick your car's firmware, at least you can keep driving without unreasonable levels of difficulty or distraction

That's impossible for a large portion of safety critical systems. Engines don't run without a controller, they literally control the fuel injection valves (and have done so for decades). Brake systems have physical failsafes for when the electronics die (I.e. basic hydraulics without the booster), but you should not be able to move a vehicle without a working brake system after it stopped.

The shitton of software running modern cars is there for good reason (at least large chunks of it), lots of which is safety, especially in the drivetrain.

It's completely different for infotainment, which I agree the vehicle should be able to function without (although the dashboard must work)

bob_lemon ,

That's only half of the issue. In fact, palm oil is entirely very space efficient compared to rape seed or other vegetable oils.

The actual issue only starts when you take into account that oil palms really only grow in south east Asia and Oceania, and the space required is obtained by cutting down rainforest.

bob_lemon ,

I would love to try Pathfinder 2e. I bought the core rulebook a while back during the OGL debacle.

Unfortunately, my player group is quite bad at remembering their own abilities, which is just a complete no-go for an ability-heavy system like PF2e.

I'm now trying out Savage Pathfinder instead.

Meanwhile, every discussion about inheritance tax is poisoned by people claiming they would need to still their parents house.

Now im picturing planting crops on increasingly hard to reach platforms, always needing to go back down to refill the watering can... That might actually be a game loop.

Some people honestly just need to get a real hobby in their life.

Late Actor Matthew Perry's Twitter Hacked: Fake Charity Plea Targets Fans with Cryptocurrency Scam (www.bitdefender.com)

Scammers hacked the late actor Matthew Perry's Twitter account and posted a fake plea for cryptocurrency donations in the name of his foundation. The foundation confirmed the post was a scam and urged people not to donate....

I haven't yet sent my life savings to a Nigerian prince, so there are no scams.

While I agree with the statement that lobbyists are not inherently evil, I will call this out as an overly optimistic statement.

We have cases like Ylva Johannson trying to enforce the use of AI detection algorithms for CSAM after being thoroughly consulted by Thorn, a company that sells such algorithms (who spent $24M on this). Meanwhile, she never met with digital rights lobbyists despite them repeatedly asking for a meeting.

    bob_lemon ,

What you're describing is kWh, not kW/h. You need to multiply power with time to get back to energy. An appliance using 1kW of power for 1h "uses" 1kWh of energy. The same appliance running for 2h requires 2kWh instead.

kW/h doesn't really make sense as a unit, although it could technically describe the rate at which energy consumption changes over time.

    bob_lemon ,

🚫 Both sides are equally bad.

✔️ Both sides are bad, but not remotely equally so.

You just ordered a thousand liters milk.

I've just finished watching Odd Taxi. Very enjoyable story about a walrus taxi driver who is dragged into shady busines.

    bob_lemon ,

There seems to be an interval in which the app actively actively polls data from the car. It defaults to 4h and only during daytime.

I guess if you set that to a very short internal and the car is not currently charging (at which point the 12V battery does nothing) there could be quite some battery drain.

That said, draining the 12V battery of an EV to the point where you get problems seems difficult.

    bob_lemon ,

I think locking apps to only their own files is a terrible idea.

If a program creates unencrypted, unsecured files on disk, those files should absolutely be free game for any other program. Because if they're not supposed to be read, they should not be unsecured files on disk.

    bob_lemon ,

If you see someone pirate proprietary software: No you didn't.

    bob_lemon ,

It's still an entirely pointless waste of energy for digital drug money.

    bob_lemon ,

I would support an HD remake of the original. It's clearly a bit dated, not to mention the book 1 digital releases have really strange artifacts.

16:9 AR, higher resolution and animation quality similar to Korra would be great.

    bob_lemon ,

I found a free and foss alternative to OpenAudible that seems to work fine: https://github.com/audiamus/BookLibConnect

There's a sister project to convert the aax (m4b) files, but I found that to be unnecessary.

    bob_lemon ,

Oh no, I can only take the train to Grandma once or twice per hour* during the daytime! The calamity!

*Yes, those are absolutely realistic time tables for train connections, Europe has those.

    bob_lemon ,

Uhhh... Every single airbag is computerized. There is always some software involved in the evaluation of the acceleration data.

And noone trusts the software to not have bugs. That's why testing exists on many development levels.

    bob_lemon ,

Yes. Which is why the latter is not happening.

I'm not defending the subscription model, but that check is very obviously not done during the crash, but during startup, when a couple of seconds delay is not fatal. And if it fails I assume the entire thing just turns off completely.

    bob_lemon ,

The new presentation blurb is really annoying bad at hiding itself.

That said, new teams finally supports multiple accounts, so I don't have to keep using a web app for the second one on my work laptop.
