And for the actually curious; it was originally to hold pocket watches

brokenlcd ,

I'm not really sure about it's actual name since i'm not a native speaker; i basically shoehorned the translation

brokenlcd ,

Why does this look like when i first iterate a pcb and need to bodge the hell out of it to make it work.

brokenlcd ,

It's the exercise they put in the test after you spent 5 hours of your life trying to understand the dinky ones they put in the book.

What cloud vps server host do I use?

What cloud VPS host is the best for privacy and security? I want to self host stuff for myself some tools. Mental Outlaw make a video last year about self hosting your own VPN with a service called Vultr but back in December vultr added to their TOS that they own what you host and a bunch of other scary stuff. So I don't trust...

brokenlcd ,

I would look into aruba vps; i remember it being decent; but dont take my word for it.

brokenlcd ,

Or if you know what you are doing electrically speaking pull the thermostat off the wall and connect the cooling/heating line to common for a bit;
I think it would actually be less effort

brokenlcd ,

I have had uni professors sign books to make sure people actually bought new books and not used ones (he wrote them); unfortunately for him i had access to toluene to get pen ink off; did the same to all of my peers;
Fuck those kind of professors

brokenlcd , (edited )

He threatened you to either buy a new book or he would make your uni career hell, one of my mates did it, at the last exam he sent him back 5 times, the last time he went to take the exam the coordiator said "what else have you got to ask to him; he told you everything in your course; [insert name] give me the paper" he signed the paper and sent him off; the prof. Still gave him only 60/100.

I still want to slap that piece of shit.

After that i taught other people in the uni to do that; he tried to mitigate by writing over the printed title of the book; hoping that any tampering would be evident; toluene didn't touch the toner, so it didn't work

Edit: grammar mistake (thanks mac)

brokenlcd ,

Here in italy no one gives a quater of a fuck about that kind of shit.
Good thing is that the same can be said when after the last exams he always needs to call a tow truck since he won't have tires, not even cameras were able to stop them, and i'm quite sure other professors turn a blind eye to them since they also hate him.

brokenlcd ,

I had originally wrote taught but i confused it with "pulling something tight" so i went with what would get the point across even if it was wrong.

Edit: fixed it now

brokenlcd , (edited )

Nah I'm fine with spreading how to remove the sign, there are already enough people capitalizing on education here

brokenlcd , (edited )

In general if you can get a respirator or at least an n95 mask if you still have them from covid(apparently that doesnt work); also make tries on an old book before going on the good one, at least if you mess up it isn't another hole punched in your wallet

brokenlcd ,

Fuck i remember this episode like i've watched it yesterday

brokenlcd ,

So, you're telling me that if a gay person is going to take these they are gonna get trough some serious introspection.

brokenlcd ,

This reminds me of that copy pasta about having an old printer and a gun in case it does something unexpected; can't remember the exact words though.

brokenlcd ,

Is libreddit still working? I remember the project was canned with the api changes

brokenlcd ,

Thanks, i didnt know they had revived the project

brokenlcd ,

All the ones i've seen have sponges and waste tanks that still act as an expensive consumables.

brokenlcd ,

I'm either slapping people to death with a broken 40' tv; or i am using screen shards as knifes. Prefer the first one tbh.

brokenlcd ,

Somewhere in my house i should still have my old pc which over the years ended up with a 30cm fan from a welder bolted to it's side because around here summer is brutal. But they took the crown with this beast.

The joke comes from the fact that all of the measuring units in the metric system ( for weight as well, since the main unit is the gram not the kilogram) add a suffix to the unit's name to indicate a size that is x10 x100 x1000 ... Smaller or bigger than the base unit. Time on the other hand is divvied up in intervals of 60 between the other units of bigger or lower size; while if we count time using the same logic as the other units of the metric system we would get hs ds and ks instead of minutes, hours and days; which are a lot messier since we are used to a base 60 system for time greater than seconds.

brokenlcd ,

Boredom in class hits every generation, and considering that most schools are putting rules in place to prevent phone use in class, they are stuck with the same stuff we had to try and find a way to fend off boredom.

So tldr. Most likely yes

brokenlcd ,

You can try with an extension that changes the user agent of your browser; if you use the one from either firefox or chrome for android it should work. Usually its the only thing checked by sites when identifing browsers for non telemetry reasons; if the problem persists I'm not sure what it could be

brokenlcd ,

Then it may be something that mull is blocking to prevent fingerprinting that duolingo doesn't like, I don't know how to help in this case other than installing something like fennec in a work profile with shelter; sorry.

brokenlcd ,

I have installed linux on a €20 tv box because i needed a print server; it turned in a 2 month adventure that only ended when i cnocked the emmc off the board and started booting from sd card( and due to how unknown the hardware is, there is very little support); I'd consider it mostly a side project to do if you are willing to risk losing the stick and just like to toy with this stuff; not something to do out of actual need.

Boy do i miss cheap sbcs.

Ps. Dont bother with the stock os; when i booted the box for the fist time with his original os i saw a spike in my pi hole's blocked domains; yikes...

brokenlcd ,

Just as a quick tip, check the armbian csc forum for the type of processor, or even better, if someone has already attempted to do mod your device; they are pretty nice folks. in general i suggest to get a box with an rk3328 or an rk3318( essentially a binned 3328) since you cant brick them and worst of all cases; you can do what i did and cnock the emmc off and still have a working box

brokenlcd ,

T9 box from ebay actually; rk3318. I'm european so getting an ONN stick isnt a possibility

brokenlcd ,

I like to listen to music at night and my old phone liked to swich to the phone internal speaker when the headphone jack was turned the other way around; all while ignoring the volume set for the speaker and using the one for the headphones instead; so everytime i went to the toilet or to get a cup of water kordhell would start blasting across the corridors at 2am. Fun.

brokenlcd ,

Nah we are gonna solve the problem when we find a way to get in the 4th dimension... Maybe; add an extra lane to be sure

brokenlcd ,

We resolved nothing; ya still gotta try to align the connector 2-3 times before it actually fits.

brokenlcd ,
brokenlcd ,

That only works if the pc is laying on the long side; most modern pc cases are made to stand only on the short side; kind of a bummer for people like me that still have a desk made to have the pc under the monitor

brokenlcd ,

Oh right, sorry i didn't realise you had already wiritten it.

Is it possible to have an on-screen keyboard that provides word suggestions without compromising privacy? (kbin.social)

I've been playing with both the Thumb and the Unexpected keyboards. I like 'em both but, man, I have to admit I'd like them more if they had that top bar that predicts what you might be. Is that just a no-go from a privacy perspective? Can that functionality be local?...

brokenlcd ,

For voice typing sayboard may be an option, i've never tried it so i'm not sure if it's good or not though; while for the predictive text i have been looking for a keyboard that can do it as well

brokenlcd ,

No i haven't, i'll check it out later because the integration with keyboards seems interesting
