I believe it's not possible because it would untie the user from all of their comments and posts that seen on "any other website connected to the Fediverse".

Only your instance can know who you are if you change your username but other instances couldn't know that.

Can someone fill me in about "Hyprland being banned from FreeDesktop"?

muhyb ,

I guess that's what happened to one of my old websites. It became a some weird Chinese website :/

muhyb ,

Not BS but you're probably from EU. Microsoft cannot do this shit there.

muhyb ,

If you like traditional desktop approach, just go with Linux Mint. If you wanna try something different, go with PopOS. You can always use Steam's Big Picture mod if you want Steam Deck UI.

Obviously the distro choices are limitless but it's a good idea to start with one of these.

muhyb ,

That's why immutable distros will bring more Linux users in the future.

muhyb ,

Yup! NixOS, Fedora Silverblue, OpenSUSE MicroOS, Guix etc.

muhyb ,

We need more beginner distros like that.

muhyb ,

as long as the content is publicly available they cannot block yt-dlp, buffer at best.

muhyb ,

Look how well that turned out for Reddit.

muhyb ,

They might but if they do they'll lose a huge revenue because a lot of website have Youtube videos embedded. Imagine you have to login to view an embedded video. Even website owners won't like that because their videos won't load automatically and they will start to seek alternative options. So I don't think Google would take that risk soon.

According to this meme format Windows is the best, which I don't agree.

Comments no longer visible with youtube frontends?

Are comments no longer visible for anyone else using the youtube frontends? I can no longer see comments with either invidious, piped, or viewtube, and I've tried several instances of each. With invidious there's just nothing there below the video description. With viewtube I get an error message. And with piped I see...

muhyb ,

Yeah, doesn't work on NewPipe for like a week.

muhyb ,

Hahaha, this article mainly sucks.

muhyb ,

Apparently people at beehaw don't have downvote button, kinda explains this situation. The very same article on lemmy.ml is at -56 votes (at least that's what seems to me).

muhyb ,

Sumatra PDF for the win(dows).

muhyb ,

Not sure but I think you can do that with Okular.

muhyb ,

Don't install neofetch, so many dependencies.

muhyb ,

Bloat is relative to every person / usage case but I agree with this definition.

Finally deleted my LinkedIn account!

After putting my account into "hibernation" for the past few weeks, I finally closed it. But I'm still looking for work. Thankfully I can still find positions (SRE and software dev) by just going directly to the company's site and finding a Jobs page.

Good luck to everyone else out there looking for work!

@privacy

muhyb ,

Sadly that's true for all social media.

muhyb ,

By something strange, I assume you mean installing Windows on a disk with the other disks disconnected so Windows will create its EFI partition on that disk (since it's dumb and will create EFI partition on the first disk it finds, even if it's an HDD). Though UEFI doesn't mind, will still list all the bootloaders from different disks without any problems. You can even unplug and plug them as you wish, it still won't be corrupted this way.

muhyb ,

It's not. There is no privacy if you send your message to Whatsapp servers.

muhyb ,

Yes, the "delivering" part would be E2EE. Do we really know the afterwards if they can read their users' messages? They probably can.

muhyb ,

That's actually true. We don't know the real-time server code of Signal. Though other apps cannot read what's written inside Signal, that's the good part. I prefer private server + Matrix but Signal is the easiest for regular people.

muhyb ,

How are the games, and especially Electron apps? Gotta know this.

muhyb ,

Seems nice. Have you tried different types, like native, proton, older proton versions, lutris etc?

muhyb ,

So there is a way-around, didn't know about this. Is this the package chromium-wayland-vaapi ?

muhyb ,

I see, will look into it. Thanks.

muhyb ,

PowerDeleteSuite. I used this when things went hot with Reddit. You can even edit your comments before deleting them, best part for you, you don't have to delete them. (Hopefully Reddit haven't countered this).

muhyb ,

Good luck!

muhyb ,

Ok hear me out, what I'm gonna say is probably not the thing most people would like to hear but here I go:

To write things down, I use ghostwriter and it does have autosave feature. Sure, it's just a markdown writer however it's great for distraction-free writing too. You can just use ghostwriter to write things and if you still need it in an office document, you can copy-paste it into LibreOffice.

muhyb ,

As a person who tried a lot of markdown editors, ghostwriter is my definite number one.

muhyb ,

Personally I only use ghostwriter if I need to do writing but I write this because ghostwriter has autosave feature (apparently LibreOffice also has this but I didn't know about it until this thread, so is OP). However it's still could be beneficial because of the format-free writing and a very clean user interface.
