It gets people going, (Daniel) 'Mkay?

I stole this from another lemmy comment, please don't come after me

fossphi ,

Can't really remember right now. I think it was a thread on which phone to buy and people were talking about graphene os on pixels.

Someone commented something along the lines of "m'lady" but with Daniel Micay's name as a pun

Props to Alpine and Kali for disabling this bullshit out of the box (lemmy.world)

Context for newbies: Linux refers to network adapters (wifi cards, ethernet cards, etc.) by so called "interfaces". For the longest time, the interface names were assigned based on the type of device and the order in which the system discovered it. So, eth0, eth1, wlan0, and wwan0 are all possible interface names. This, however,...

fossphi ,

Good lord, this is a top tier meme!

fossphi ,

Heck yeah, vectorised libre memes ftw!

fossphi ,

Yep, sometimes they just don't load for me. I use Thunder as my client

fossphi ,

You can use rclone to mount your mega drive like a regular folder. Works like a charm. It's a FLOSS command line utility

fossphi ,

Better than playing with yourself

It's no longer fun for me

fossphi ,

_Please do not resist, it's for your own safety. _

fossphi ,

I was confused for a second because I use Thunder with a similar look, too

fossphi ,

Good, I still have some time to stare at my magic glass

fossphi ,

Sam Altman

Everything he touches tends to inevitably turn to shit. This guy and his fellow silicon valley cronies are scum of the earth

fossphi ,

What kind of music do you like?

fossphi ,

Ooh boy! Prog is one of my favourite genre, too. Just start with Polygondwanaland then, it's their most proggy album.

They have so many varied albums, I will list a few which I like. You can also use this website to guide you through and explore their discography, https://www.get-into-gizz.com/

I also really recommend Nonagon Infinity, and Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava for some amazing psychedelic/rock. And some of the microtonal albums (Flying Microtonal Banana). A lot of people are not very much fans of the slower/more chill albums, but Butterfly 3000 is one of my favourite albums from them. Omnium Gatherum's first three tracks are worth listening, too

Apart from these, Infest the Rats Nest is an absolute banger of a thrash metal album.

fossphi ,

Shit, thanks for reminding me. I needed to take care of some pacdiff files

fossphi ,

I think it's a play on the chord being a minor?
How to finger a minor

fossphi ,

So people know how expensive a computer is at the address. What could go wrong

fossphi ,

I don't think this meme is like that. Just seems to be some funny harmless dad humour type banter

fossphi ,

It's such a sadness, it was so useful and (kinda) decently organised. I don't wanna go looking to shady telegram groups and stuff. And they're not indexable by search engines!

fossphi ,

Shell and python scripts are also code which is executed. HTML (at least back in the day) wasn't really a network shipped executable, but more like markdown file which is just parsed and rendered

fossphi ,

I really don't think so.

For the sake of simplicity, let's go back to the time when websites were not full of JS and other modern web stuff

You could in principle just wget the html file from a server and parse/render it without having to run that file. Like I said, it is like a simple markdown file.

In terms of modern web, a crude analogy would be to look at the output from static site generators. In those, the server essentially doesn't execute code, hence a lot of cloud providers can host your static sites for free

fossphi ,

I feel like GNU and the GPL are the best things that have happened in the tech space in a long time. I wish more people understood the significance of this and the FSF

fossphi ,

So can I write my own implementation and talk to other people via rcs? If not, then I don't think it deserves being called an open standard

fossphi ,

Come on, you can do so much better than that

fossphi ,

Dang, for real? Do you have some more details on this?

fossphi ,

His notes video is also fantastic! I really wish he made some more videos.

Also would be interesting to see his take after skiff got bought by notion

fossphi ,

Pretty sure it integrates with Jitsi, so that's one option for calls

fossphi ,

Also the state of encryption is abysmal. It seems to be constantly experimental/beta. I vaguely remember them talking about launching E2EE at like nextcloud versions 16 or something, but it seems flaky even still :/

fossphi ,

Could you expand a bit more on the LDAP part? I'm thinking of rolling something like that myself but not sure if it's worth it

fossphi ,

And how many users are in your ldap config?

fossphi ,

Aah yes, the classic mistake of eating it straight out of the freezer

fossphi ,

very good and extremely local
