You haven't heard that Apple supports it now?

iopq ,

Safari, which is the biggest one. But also in the OS, they committed to supporting it, but I'm not sure if they followed through yet

iopq ,

They stole half assing it from the West!

iopq ,

I'm an end user and I demand text to speech AI

Even Apple finally admits that 8GB RAM isn't enough (www.xda-developers.com)

There were a number of exciting announcements from Apple at WWDC 2024, from macOS Sequoia to Apple Intelligence. However, a subtle addition to Xcode 16 — the development environment for Apple platforms, like iOS and macOS — is a feature called Predictive Code Completion. Unfortunately, if you bought into Apple's claim that...

iopq ,

I had a laptop with 8GB. Doing one of those things was fine, but when you open up another program it takes forever to switch to the browser

iopq ,

The driver still gets an hourly wage, so they still need to pay them for delivering. I don't understand how you expect delivery to be the same price as pick up.

iopq ,

Your income maybe didn't go up, but this isn't true in general

https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/db04d45b-4004-4047-9b4f-542a9aa2b4cc.jpeg

iopq ,

The people who order delivery must be subsidized by the pick up customers now?

Because if you pay those wages from the price of the pizza, then everyone is paying for deliveries even if they don't get pizza delivered.

Notice nobody said the charge is too much, they immediately didn't want to pay anything

iopq ,

Domino's where I am just drop your order at the counter. Does yours have waiters?

Domino's where I am just drop your order at the counter. Does yours have waiters?

iopq ,

Click on it?

iopq ,

During the shutdowns there's a compositional effect of lower wage workers losing their jobs.

I'm talking about the difference from 2019 to now, people are making more money even accounting for inflation

iopq ,

What? It costs money for the delivery. That's a fact

iopq ,

They do, except they have a $5.12 tip allowance

If they don't make $7.25 an hour the employer must pay the difference

Unemployment is very low

Not really an improvement from 2019, but basically has been around that 4% value for a while

https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/d79602fd-09f9-4b50-8abc-ffa86f4cec35.png

In fact, president Biden noted "unemployment has been at or below 4% for 30 months—the longest stretch in 50 years."

iopq ,

That applies to Uber Eats and similar, not to Domino's delivery drivers who are Domino's employees

iopq ,

Domino's has not. Yet people criticize a few dollars delivery fee, despite Uber eats actually costing more (maybe not at first glance, but the prices in store and online are different which is worse)

I don't use those, I select my own components using SystemD OS.

Like my configuration actually has to specify whether I'm using gnome or KDE, nothing is "by default" in my distro except for SystemD

Debian used to be so good. What happened!? (lemmy.world)

Firefox on Debian stable is so old that websites yell at you to upgrade to a newer browser. And last time I tried installing Debian testing (or was it debian unstable?), the installer shat itself trying to make the bootloader. After I got it to boot, apt refused to work because of a missing symlink to busybox. Why on earth do...

iopq ,

What's why we have NixOS. The unstable channel is more stable than most other distros and when it's not, you just roll back

iopq ,

You must not be using an Nvidia GPU on Wayland because KDE is pushing updates for this use case

iopq ,

When I see an Arch user, I see a future NixOS user FWIW

iopq ,

Which would be great, because it would give people with high incomes places to live, lowering the competition for housing and the rents at the top end. Those people would spend and contribute to the local economy, since they have the money to spend.

This would be a huge win for everyone, as building more housing often is.

iopq ,

People who live in countries with internet censorship?

iopq ,

Oh wow, it's useless

iopq ,

I think the shows have been better than the movies

Succession was really good, for example

iopq ,

Did they make the shows too?

iopq ,

Both Wikipedia and Stack Overflow just have a few dozen fast servers despite being some of the world's highest trafficked websites

iopq ,

Did the pirate site pay anyone to make new shows?

iopq ,

They use the subscription money to pay production studios. What did the pirate site use the subscription money for?

iopq ,

So Netflix actually pays for shows to get made, so when everyone pays for Netflix, it lets everyone enjoy them. Pirate sites only extract value from the hard work of the producers, without paying them.

iopq ,

Okay, now tell me how pirate sites contribute to creation of said content

iopq ,

You can't have revenue from people who are watching it for free

iopq ,

That's a good point, but I've never seen merch for less popular shows.

iopq ,

Where I live, you can drive for three hours and still be within the city limits

iopq ,

Unfortunately, I don't have ten bucks

iopq ,

Truth social

iopq ,

Really? I'm paying $2 a month for hosting. Maybe you have bigger needs then

I use a free subdomain because I don't have professional needs

iopq ,

AWS lightsail just increased prices for ipv4 instances, while ipv6 only is the old price

iopq ,

It's for the server, I don't have a domain, I use a free subdomain

iopq ,

NixOS, surprised nobody mentioned it

iopq ,

How do you think research for vaccines is funded? Someone pays for vaccines for deadly diseases eventually

iopq ,

In any case, the company who makes the vaccines doesn't pay it. Ubuntu could make the argument you get the security upgrades if the government wants to pay for them

iopq ,

I mean, I tried KDE+Wayland on an Nvidia GPU and it's still not properly working. It should work soon, but it worked okay on gnome for like a year now

iopq ,

I've tested making new subdomains, it's literally minutes in real life. Sure, in some pathological case it might be hours, but it's not actually going to happen realistically.

iopq ,

In live videos they replace what you're watching

iopq ,

I accept having to wait until the video downloads past the ad. Certainly not going to watch the ad.
