I can't understand why KYC is needed.

There are definitely things wrong with collecting PII that could put your customer at risk of identity theft if you dont have a good reason to collect such data

Yes, but make sure you buy from a manufacturer that has their scientific test data publiahed publicly. Not all wallets shield equally. Many do nothing. I recommend buying from Proxy Store. They have a good selection of wallets.

Just imagine if all content was actually articles here..

Make an income out of content creation while retaining your privacy?

It's been a while since I started my privacy journey, but there was something I always wanted to do even before I started to care about my privacy. I always have loved the idea of having a blog to talk about different things that I am interested in, and creating content of value for others, and not gibberish content full of SEO...

No amount of makeup will break facial recognition

library_napper , (edited )
@library_napper@monyet.cc avatar

Police often pay data brokers for getting data on people; its easier than getting a warrant from a judge. Its often the same private companies that KYC companies use.

Most international* airports collect facial recognition data now. Private companies get it from social media or news articles or public mugshot data. Its possible to keep your facial data private, but it's extremely unlikely.

I think what you want is about:blank. It contains a list of all the websites without cookie, auth, and pay walls

library_napper ,
@library_napper@monyet.cc avatar

They're not asking you. They're asking the companies

The real solution is for companies to ask for the name of the officer, and then go to the official police website, call their non emergency number, and ask to speak with the officer. Then confirm that it was them, in fact, that sent the request.

Bonus: then tell them to get a fucking warrant and hang up the phone.

I doubt they're downvoting it because its not English. That would be ridiculous

library_napper ,
@library_napper@monyet.cc avatar

I think you mean US Americans. Most Americans speak Spanish.

library_napper ,
@library_napper@monyet.cc avatar

Fact: the US uses the metric system for decades (maybe closer to a century?). All federal contracts in the US must be in metric. Its not the same at the State level, and its not mandated for private businesses--unless they're working for the federal government.

Also every US American is taught metric in schools.

Its capitalism that's the problem, not inflation.

Inflation, as you say, forces people to lend money to other people. If there was extremely high inflation, there would be no hoarding of cash. Everyone would be interested in giving their money away as soon as they obtained some. That's a good thing.

So, what is an ethical stock or fund to buy?

library_napper ,
@library_napper@monyet.cc avatar

So...on my WordPress blog I used to say "follow me on twitter!" with a link to my twitter account. Then folks would click on it, and they'd get updated about my new articles published to WordPress by twitter (because I'd write a post on twitter linking to all my new articles).

Since the fediverse appeared, I now say "follow me on mastodon!" with a link to my mastodon account. Then folks click on it, and they get updated about my new articles published to WordPress by mastodon (because I write a post on mastodon linking to all my new articles).

So now if I have this WordPress ActivityPub plugin, what do I say instead of "follow me on X?" And what should it link-to?

This is a question of UX. I could explain to someone on mastodon how to follow my WordPress site using ActivityPub (tell them to copy the URL into their mastodon instance search field). But is there any one link that will magically work for all users to subscribe-to WordPress in whatever their ActivityPub client is?

library_napper ,
@library_napper@monyet.cc avatar

Any example implementations for wordpress that you can link-to?

Pretty gross rack design tho. Should just be a bunch of pipes bent into a large U-shape cemented into the ground on both ends.

You're supposed to lock the rear wheel with a u-bolt, not the front wheel.

Also not all bikes are shaped the same, and once you put a weeks worth of groceries on them that front wheel is popping out of that shitty slot and you're crushing the guy next to you

I dont think OP realizes how disgustingly car-centric German culture is. They probably do, in fact, have parking garages

library_napper ,
@library_napper@monyet.cc avatar

Last time I drank a bunch of mulled wine in Germany during Christmas, I went to the train station and found it was closed.

Its absurd that the trains dont run all night, especially on holidays where everyone is out drinking and trying to not drive or bike intoxicated

library_napper ,
@library_napper@monyet.cc avatar

While its nice to take holdlidays, I dont think its reasonable to shutdown necessary public infrastructure on holidays. Imagine if the electricity and water systems also shutdown on holidays.

Anyway, humans aren't needed to operate trains.

Users must expressly agree before their profiles can be visible to non-members.

Wait the law encourages authwalls? Isn't that worse?

library_napper ,
@library_napper@monyet.cc avatar

That could do both ways tho.

I dont consent to Facebook and LinkedIn making my profile invisible to internet users who dont have an account with them (which on those platform it is not possible to register and account anonymously)

library_napper ,
@library_napper@monyet.cc avatar

Yeah, I disagree with that. I think we need laws that require companies to allow anonymous users to access their content, with few exceptions.

Signal requiring phone number, thoughts on anonymity?

signal requires a phone number to sign up. a phone number could be used to trace your signal account back to you. so why do people, especially privacy enthusiasts and experts (like edward snowden), still use it and endorse it when it lacks anonymity in that sense? i get that people could use a voip number or something to sign...

library_napper ,

Californians will be able to delete all personal online data with first-in-US law (www.theguardian.com)
