Supreme Court weakens federal regulators with Chevron overturning, threatening net neutrality, right to repair, big tech regulation, and more (www.theverge.com)

The downfall of Chevron deference could completely change the ways courts review net neutrality, according to Bloomberg Intelligence’s Matt Schettenhelm. “The FCC’s 2024 effort to reinstitute federal broadband regulation is the latest chapter in a long-running regulatory saga, yet we think the demise of deference will...

What's the suggestion here?

Don't forget that 3 of the current justices (Barrett, roberts, kavanaugh) were on bush's legal team in 2000 Bush vs Gore

marx2k ,

I did. Pack a day since I was ..14?

20 years later, one day I just felt I was done. Threw the rest of my pack out, and didn't go back nor had the urge to after a week.

marx2k ,

Pretty sure none of the people working those jobs are part of the RTO demo

No need for VPN with usenet

marx2k ,

Your chances of this is about the same as the VPN provider being compromised of not lower.

Have you ever heard of anyone at all get in trouble for using usenet due to the provider being compromised?

Hell, most providers have a European endpoint. Just use that if that paranoid.

People are buying new cars. I'm guessing it's mostly leasing.

marx2k ,

Looks at pic in post..

...has some questions...

marx2k ,

I used to do that until the pump failed to realize the tank was full and just kept going.

That's also why there are signs telling you specifically not to do that.

marx2k ,

How long can you 'park' at a gas station pump ?

This is about as sad as eating in your car alone at a McDonald's parking lot

marx2k ,

That's my point. When it fails, there's no click. It just keeps going. Then you're scrambling to stop the pump as it's jizzing fuel all over your car's paint job, the floor, you...

marx2k ,

I don't do it enough, but I do enjoy using it (it being perplexity.ai) for getting code examples of stuff I'm always looking up over and over. A YAML sample of a Cloudformation or CDL snippet for a very specifically configured resource. A YAML sample of an Ansible module that does a thing. A Python sample of a specific lambda method. A regex for email addresses.

Fewer people are using Elon Musk’s X as the platform struggles to attract and keep users, according to analysts (www.nbcnews.com)

Data from two research firms and figures published by Musk and X suggest a deteriorating situation for X by some metrics. Musk has marketed it as the world’s “town square,” but in number of users it continues to lag far behind social media rivals that focus on video, such as Instagram and TikTok. ...

Question...

I don't use tiktok. I have a Twitter account. Why is tiktok bad while a privately owned social media platform (twitter) that's partially financed by Saudi Arabia and Qatar not bad?

marx2k ,

Link me to where congress is forwarding a bill to van twitter

marx2k ,

Will it, though?

My love is for Linux, and my job gives me a Mac. I'm pretty happy

Same here. Absolutely love it. The only thing I don't love is I'm not able to get MacBook without an x86_64 chip. VirtualBox doesn't work on M-series ARM chips so I'm left without a standard way to run virtual machines :(

marx2k ,

That's what our company is doing right now. Currently using VMware vcenter. We've started talks with IBM/redhat about open shift virtualization. I have to maintain redhat ansible automation platform, automation hub and a redhat openshift containerization cluster.

Based on how absolutely terrible it is to maintain those and how absolutely terrible redhat support is, I keep trying to talk my company out of their current talks with redhat openshift virtualization.

It doesn't help that redhat's tech team keep fucking up answers in their meetings with our team about their platform and our questions about feature party with vmware

marx2k ,

I do love it. My issue though is making cross-platform VM configs using Vagrant. I had something really nice going with virtualbox since it was usable by Linux, Mac and Windows. Now I'm not sure what the common demonator would be :/

marx2k ,

That's the funniest thing I've heard today

marx2k ,

So... the entire car is bricked if that screen malfunctions and the car is not usable by those with poor motor skills in their right hand?

marx2k ,

...while you're driving...

marx2k ,

TIL cities cant have central mass transport

marx2k ,

Ah yes competition. I get to choose between two providers, charter and at&t. Same price, about the same speeds.

Edit: couldn't get Wikipedia to give me the urban legend definition and not the metal band. Changed the link

marx2k ,

Hero. Right here.

marx2k ,

That docker engine still runs in a small Linux vm.

And the m1, m2, etc chips killed the use of VirtualBox for running full fledged vms :/

The problem is creating isos and vagrantfiles for the common denominator that can be shared via git and artifactory

marx2k ,

dickheads who do things like refuse to tell their wives when they're going out of town for work

lol wait what?

marx2k ,

This reminds me of a coworker I had who used to call the Department of natural resources and try to convince the poor clerk that he shouldn't have to pay for a fishing license for him and his wife because gay people have the right to get married. I still don't understand the logic on that but that's what I overheard.

He then went on to attempt to abduct the governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer.

marx2k ,

Trust me, it did for everyone that worked with the guy.

marx2k ,

Welcome to my morning walk with the dogs every morning where its colder then 35F. Every fucking car in my neighborhood does this bullshit and when there's little to no wind, all that exhaust doesn't go anywhere and just sits at ground level where I get to breathe it in for an hour. It stick at the back of my throat for the rest of the day. Add to that snowblowers after even less than an inch of snow.

I can't fucking wait for EVs to gain market share. Its fucking disgusting what my neighbors find acceptable.

The only enjoyment I find in this situation is people that back into their garages then warm up their car while still parked in their garage, spewing that exhaust into there instead of outside. I'll never understand what brain logic leads them to that solution but it's the same people doing it every morning.

Edit: I should add that the other great thing about people doing this is the rise of car thefts since some of these people also just turn their car on, leave the keys in the car, leave it unlocked and go back indoors because it's cold

marx2k ,

Is illegal in my city. You'd never know it by walking around in the morning.

marx2k ,

Read world news. This is in no way just America.

marx2k ,

What is it

marx2k ,

Thanks. I have an LG washer and dryer, electric. They seem to work great now but I can't see them working well for years. It's been about 3 years now. My oven is maytag and we love it. Def. Keeping this in mind.

alvaro , to Selfhosted

I would like to have a mechanism to set up a server automagically…

Similarly I would like to set up my user account settings (Tmux plugins, .zshrc and vim settings, etc) that I can replicate in multiple machines via a script (I have a custom script for this but I want a more solid alternative)

Thoughts on what infra-as-code solution would work best? Any similar experiences or use cases with one Thanks!

Ehhh... as someone who does devops, you should dive into ansible core changelogs on github sometime ;)

marx2k ,

💯

We're an ansible shop and yeah it's better than bash scripting (where it makes sense) but ansible.. man it does have some peculiarities :/
