I think these things:

Which allow the door to open normally it just can’t close completely.

Ahhh anti-zoomies is a perk lol.

There’s a podcast called Jobsolete that covers, as the name implies, obsolete jobs! It’s inactive now but they have an ok size catalog that it’s worth going back and listening.

In my VERY limited experience, school libraries tend to be quiet/silent while public ones are more communal with varied loudness spaces. But a lot of people only experience school libraries.

But minimalism isn’t about just having the least amount of stuff and purging literally everything you’re not using that minute. It wouldn’t encourage buying and purging the same tools over again. Rather, encourage you to think deeply on weather you need X tool, or maybe Y tool you already have could manage the job, or if you can borrow X tool. If you cannot substitute for X tool in any way, you would still buy it—but you still would want to be mindful of what version of X you buy, whether you need to super fancy one with lots of bells and whistles or if a basic version will keep you in working order.

Yeah I’ve literally never gotten an email from AliExpress over an order in my life lol. They don’t even email me confirmations or shipping notices. Which I like cuz then I just get a nice surprise 2-3 weeks later lol.

It took me longer into my adulthood than I’d like to admit to learn to just shut up and keep it to myself when this happens.

I think the above comment was kind of blowing the comic out of proportion—I mean it’s a 4 panel comic it’s obviously not going to be able to give great nuance but I think it’s easy to read it as “proper” queerbaiting.

Anyway, the Wikipedia page has a good list of examples if you’re interested in mainstream examples.

Ones that stick out off the top of my head I’ve personally watched were Sherlock, and Teen Wolf and Rizzoli & Isles to a lesser extent.

I’ve not watched Stranger Things so idk about that one but some are definitely a reach lol.

I viewed it as “play more versus sitting at a desk at work” sort of thing.

Idk, I think it depends on the type of show maybe? Or the presumed prestige of it. I feel like a lot of procedurals I’ve watched get better once they get their legs under them. They not bad in the beginning but once the characters have been established and the writers get the hang of doing crime/mysteries they get more fluid.

Additionally, I’m not flipping light switches while controlling a giant machine capable of killing people. Not sure why they compared the two.

There are huge swaths of the US not covered. You could be driving between two cities less than an hour apart and hit dead zones.

the size difference helps in Norways favor too I imagine (and probably shape too!)

My (very kind, sweet, wholesome) 70 year old boss at work uses a lot of emoji. Not to this extent, but more than one a text seems like a lot to me and he has used 4-5.

That was only months before Twitter announced it would be slowly shutting it down in October. It was a last gasp, too little too late unfortunately. The article you posted even mentioned it was a reaction to creators posting “teasers” that lead watchers to other sites, where the creators were establishing, or had already established, a solid base.

What can you get to within a 15-minute walk of your house?

A recent YouGov survey asked Americans what they think they should be able to get to within a 15-minute walk of their house.

Of these choices, I can currently walk to all of them from my apartment, aside from a university (no biggie, I'm not currently studying, although there is a Tafe within walking distance), a hospital, and a sports arena.

How many can you get to with a 15 minute walk from your house?

Yeah I know of a few 7-elevens that are just the store, no gas, but would still be thought of as a “gas station”.

When discussions like this happen I think it’s good to actually suggest alternatives!

I don’t listen to audiobooks, but a lot of people I know use libro.fm

Also your local library probably partners with Hoopla and/or Libby which allows you to borrow audiobooks straight to your PC/phone!

Prime is how I watched Women Talking and The Lighthouse. I was even going to crack and finally pay to rent The Lighthouse then I saw it was finally free on Prime. They definitely have some niche films.

Is the 52 card deck also common in Germany? In the US we use the 52 card deck for tons of different games.

I assume they’re reading glasses, because at least when I wore glasses before LASIK I would know immediately if I wasn’t wearing my glasses. A lot of people hang their reading glasses on their shirt collar or on top of their head, I could see them falling off while pulling something out of the oven without realizing.

I know it doesn’t fix the fact the ruined main feed, but if you click on “Instagram” on the top left then select “Following” from the drop-down that appears, you will get a chronological feed of only the people you follow—no ads no suggested posts. Only reels if they were posted by someone you follow.

Scottish inventor Alexander Bain worked on chemical-mechanical fax-type devices and in 1846 was able to reproduce graphic signs in laboratory experiments. He received British patent 9745 on May 27, 1843, for his "Electric Printing Telegraph".

In 1880, English inventor Shelford Bidwell constructed the scanning phototelegraph that was the first telefax machine to scan any two-dimensional original, not requiring manual plotting or drawing.

Conversely, sleeping on your side isn’t very good for a lot of your joints. For instance in your diagram, that position is very bad for her hips and compressing her lungs. I still sleep on my side because it’s my preferred position but I have to have a knee pillow to keep my hips and knees aligned, and I try to have a pillow hugged to my chest to keep my spine and shoulders from crunching lol.

poppy ,
@poppy@lemm.ee avatar

I literally can’t fall asleep on my back lol. I can lay there for an hour and then the minute I roll over on my side or stomach I’ll fall asleep.

Same. I’ll admit a few overall have made me nose laugh but most are just “yep, that’s a joke/statement I see online 20 times a week put to picture”. It’s not that I inherently dislike them, but they’re not my cup of tea and I preferred when I could just not see them.

poppy ,

No, Tumblr nests the original the furthest in. The opposite of places like Reddit/Lemmy, where they nest subsequent comments down. So the furthest to the right is the original comment, and each step out is a new response to the original.

Also, if they genuinely wanted to make it more affordable up front in order to get the safety device in more hands, they could charge a chunk initially and then a regular payment plan for so many months. Not paying in perpetuity or we disable it.

I’m guessing it’s the dry delivery of “bad” jokes don’t click with a lot of people, but yeah it just feels more self aware Canadian to me. 😅

It’s my understanding it’s not inherently sexual, is it? I mean I know that’s what we see a lot of online but I didn’t think they were all horny about it. So for some portion is just kinda like LARPing?
