Did Edward Snowden kill people too?

rockSlayer ,

Why should he go to trial? It's not going to be a fair trial, and the people have a right to know that the US government is illegally surveilling them. If he truly did directly kill people as a result of his leak, there would already be preliminary evidence.

rockSlayer ,

I got a pop up once, I cleared the ublock cache and never had any issues after.

rockSlayer ,

Not the person you asked, but generally I just go to the manufacturer website. Amazon is useful for it's pictures and an aggregate of similar products, but now it's usually just a catalog of stuff so I know what to look for

rockSlayer ,

Basically when it comes to streaming services, what are you paying for? You aren't getting anything except temporary access that can be revoked at any time. What the slogan is saying is pretty simple in that regard: if we aren't buying anything but access, then you aren't stealing when sailing the seas

rockSlayer ,

When has the music industry done literally anything that benefited artists or consumers?

rockSlayer OP , (edited )

most people impacted were in Customer Service, Artists, Designers, Programmers, etc. The people cut were in areas that have been short staffed for nearly a year. HR was minimally impacted.

Edit: additionally, labor laws also exclude central business operations (like hr, er, management, security) from being in a union. CWA is speaking on behalf of workers that are capable of organizing, though they recognize that cutting management is also horrible. That's because it's always low level management who are crucial for daily operations.

rockSlayer ,

Due to the bail system, jail also serves as punishment for being poor.

rockSlayer ,

Can someone explain this one to me? Brain too smooth

rockSlayer ,

Now it makes sense! I was way overthinking it

rockSlayer ,

for context, that's 0.04% of the profits Amazon earned in France alone (€9B) in 2022.

rockSlayer ,

I've always advocated for fines to be assessed as a percentage of global annual revenue.

"Oh, your global revenue was $100B? That will be $1b please."

rockSlayer ,

It will be our obligation as a collective to seize their excessive wares anyway once the chaos of an apocalypse is over, so I guess they can have fun in their final stand

rockSlayer ,

I've had my fair share of disagreements with other prominent lemmings, but I'm happy to say I haven't mixed threads yet. My favorite part is knowing that even with our disagreements, I can still have fun with those folks in other threads

rockSlayer ,

excuse you, that's obviously Bill. Dale has convinced him to join his special club

rockSlayer ,

Another answer that works outside of Minecraft is forming a union

rockSlayer ,

They say our time is over,

They say our time is through

They say you need no union if your collar isn't blue

Well that is just another lie the boss is telling you,

For the union makes us strong!

rockSlayer ,

NASA's rovers have been kicking ass for the last few decades. Truly a testament to how great their engineering teams are

rockSlayer ,

Agreed on removing the image. I upvoted because I thought it was a regular post and not a rule change

rockSlayer ,

What if there were like a "moldy Monday" thing instead of an outright ban? I agree with others that they're fun ironically.

Absolutely in favor of banning AI generated content though.

rockSlayer ,

The girl knows what's up, welcome to the cause comrade!

rockSlayer ,

Always a good idea to stash some light reading in the bathroom for this reason. I recommend das kapital

rockSlayer ,

lol just in case you missed the joke, Das Kapital is the 3 volume magnum opus of Karl Marx spanning over 2800 pages

rockSlayer ,

The premise is ridiculous imo. Yes, banks are exploitative, but the reality is that we must do what we need to so we can survive. The saying "there is no ethical consumption under capitalism" extends to every facet of life. An emergency fund placed in a bank account is a good idea to ensure you can maintain a minimum standard of living.

As for investing, here in the US it's damn near impossible to retire without a 401k investment portfolio. I would like to not work some day, so I need to invest. One of the most insidious parts of capitalism is how it compells unwilling people to participate through the state apparatus. Remember, Engels was a capitalist and bankrolled Marx to get the revolution running. Having money isn't a bad thing, until it's time to abandon the need for money.

rockSlayer ,

The anarchist library doesn't look like a pirate site at all. To me it seems like the mods weren't willing to look at the site for even a second to determine it was ok.

rockSlayer ,

I'm currently a mod here on lemmy. I would at the very least click the link before banning or removing. In the link, they'd see this note:

L’Anarchia was written in 1891, appeared in English translation in the monthly journal Freedom (September 1891—June 1892) and was reprinted as a pamphlet by Freedom Press in 1892.

The mod of r/books should be even slightly aware that anything printed before 1929 is public domain

rockSlayer ,

I'm not the aggrieved party here, and I deleted my reddit account several months ago.

rockSlayer ,

Alternatively, form a union so you can have a stable life with raises written into contract

rockSlayer ,

If you want annual 10% raises, get elected to the bargaining committee and fight for it. A union is only as strong as it's member's will to fight.

rockSlayer ,

There aren't any elections in the UFCW? In that case, I'd look for a more democratic union and campaign to hold a 3 way election when it's time for a new contract.

rockSlayer ,

First, do you mean your workplace, or your local? Locals for sure are supposed to have elections, and workplaces are supposed to elect their stewards. Stewards are the ones bargaining the contract and representing workers, they're also supposed to be bringing contracts to a vote. Bring it up with your local (above your workplace) first and talk to the president to find out where things are going wrong. Then if necessary go to your district before taking the drastic measure I mentioned. UFCW is supposed to be much more democratic than what you're describing from what I can find, so there might be something wrong flying under the radar.

rockSlayer ,

Gotta build in the opportunity for rent seeking.

rockSlayer ,

Ez, nuke the ocean to send the tsunami somewhere else

Cable firms to FTC: We shouldn’t have to let users cancel service with a click — Customers may “misunderstand the consequences of canceling,” say lobbyists (arstechnica.com)

Cable firms to FTC: We shouldn’t have to let users cancel service with a click — Customers may “misunderstand the consequences of canceling,” say lobbyists::Customers may "misunderstand the consequences of canceling," cable lobby says.

rockSlayer ,

And the FTC is about 30 years late on considering these regulations.

rockSlayer OP ,

do what you can. If that means saying you can't, then stand up for yourself and say no

rockSlayer OP ,

There's always something you can do, even if that something is just staying informed.

rockSlayer ,

trying to post something that doesn’t result in arguments in the comments for once lol

Challenge accepted. The prison industrial complex is bad, actually

rockSlayer ,

Your sabotage will be your calling card. Since ecotage has fallen out of favor, people will think "oh snap, the pipeline welder stuck again. I bet they could weld 10 miles of pipeline control valves shut in a single night"

rockSlayer ,

It's just metacommentary on the illusion of choice from corporations. Stay the course comrade

AI cameras being set up on highways to catch drivers who throw trash out of their car windows (www.businessinsider.com)

AI cameras being set up on highways to catch drivers who throw trash out of their car windows::The decision to install cameras in UK lay-bys aims to prevent littering but one campaign group described the approach as "meaningless."

rockSlayer ,

They were part of the capitalist class. Aside from being extremely confused about the tech, they'd most likely support it.

rockSlayer ,

God I wish. I live in an American city, so it's too dangerous to walk along the 4 lane stroad to get to the grocery store a block away

rockSlayer ,

That's correct, suburbs are the product of the worst housing experiment in the US, in which racists fled from cities to suburbs. They were designed to benefit white people in the aftermath of WW2, because white people were more likely to afford a car. More racism prevented POC from buying in the suburbs or qualifying for housing loans. A second layer of racism came when the Department of Transportation intentionally used Emminent Domain to design the highway network for disrupting and dividing neighborhoods of black people. The whipped topping of this racism pancake came from an unassuming supreme court case, which allowed for municipalities to "preserve the character of the community", which cemented racist single family zoning into city ordinances and prevents literally anything other than a single family home from being built
