Can I see more of this?

selokichtli ,

Oh. You are so wrong. Is that the mom, the sister, the stepsiblings's girlfriend?

selokichtli ,

Thank you. Now that I've showed you my appreciation, are you fucking kidding me?

selokichtli ,

I didn't think people really expected to believe that their smart stuff was really theirs. Did they? Imagine renting your bulbs to Amazon.

selokichtli ,

I was always in the Android camp because it was more FOSS then, more AOSP. Being said that, another competitor was and is desperately needed. When Windows Phones were in the wild, I had hope. But take a look at Windows 11, if Windows Phone had been a success, by now it would be utter shit.

selokichtli ,

They all find their way to shit when profit, not user satisfaction, is the ultimate goal. In the end, we are talking Microsoft here, we already know them.

selokichtli ,

It's hard to avoid being their “customer” here. It feels more like the taxpayer experience.

selokichtli ,

A question, do all this fuckery work in old.reddit.com?

selokichtli , (edited )

"You should be comfortable". Is that a common phrase of these people?

selokichtli ,

The mere existence of that phrase is sad.

selokichtli ,

For the love of God, I just can't understand how "needs Internet" became synonymous with "smart" in the appliances market slang. I know it's what advertisers do, but this one is abysmal.

selokichtli ,

I wonder what percentage of millionaires under 30 inherited their wealth.

selokichtli ,

And UNO is the avatar that they won't allow to exist. Or their fake avatar.

Fewer people are using Elon Musk’s X as the platform struggles to attract and keep users, according to analysts (www.nbcnews.com)

Data from two research firms and figures published by Musk and X suggest a deteriorating situation for X by some metrics. Musk has marketed it as the world’s “town square,” but in number of users it continues to lag far behind social media rivals that focus on video, such as Instagram and TikTok. ...

Weird. I've never seen Twitter more hostile to visitors and potential new users. And if you happen to register to a new account you will be welcomed by even more hostility from trolls and seasoned users. It's just a terrible experience.

selokichtli ,

In Lemmy you can also disable the visualization of the voting system instance-side and client-side. I disable it, then, after writing my piece, it's out there. If people don't like it and they don't reply, well, deal with it.

selokichtli ,

Right? It feels more like they are trying to hide the toxicity of their community.

selokichtli ,

Is there a FAQ about living in car free cities? For example, how do you travel to another city? What do you do if the city has high slopes making walking and biking too hard? Or how do elders deal with what other citizens would take for granted in terms of mobility?

selokichtli ,

Thank you for your detailed reply. I was under the impression that cars and buses were out of the question. This clarifies a lot. Ebikes and electric devices, however, sound to me like something futuristic, probably because I live in latinamerica.

Steep-slope places are not the norm almost anywhere, but they are not really that scarce here. We probably would need to make some technological catch up.

About elders driving, well, it's common that they have cars although they can't/shouldn't drive them. Some younger ones can step in and volunteer, usually family members, but not only. An arrangement can always be made when young people hardly owns a car.

selokichtli ,

It's cool and all, but trains have fixed routes that can't take you almost everywhere. Of course I'd prefer trains over highways, just stating the current fact. Take for example every city I've lived in Mexico: trains never were an option to travel between cities. That's changing, fortunately.

PEVs are still not very common around here, but that answers some questions. Thanks for your reply.

selokichtli ,

"Car-free cities" gave the wrong idea. I'd call them walk-friendly cities instead, but I guess that ship has already sailed. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and first-hand experience.

selokichtli ,

I couldn't tell. Barely know the US and it's been a long time. Those were questions over the top of my head, out of curiosity, and coming from the wrong assumption that these cities were totally car-free with the only exception of emergency vehicles.

selokichtli , (edited )

That sounds cool. I'd still prefer to take a bus to feel safer in my car-centric town, but one can imagine living somewhere you just fire up your EPV and be gone. I reckon it requires very engaged local authorities.

selokichtli ,

Agreed, but another question follows. If the junk is behind does it mean centaurs can have babies with horses? Where do centaurs come from? I know the official story, but really.

selokichtli ,

They may still be on negotiations. I can picture Truth as "Y, the social network that comes after X". It sure can't fail. Then a merge can happen, they can call it Z or Musk may be bold about it and call it Ω.

selokichtli , (edited )

Whatever wing willing to pay, honestly.

EDIT: I rarely see the voting system of lemmy for a reason. I find it cute, this reaction to the mere comparison between so-called "wings" in the American political system. Both, republicans and democrats, are two sides of the same coin.

In January. March is happening now, Argentina just went back to school, well, at least those who could afford it.

selokichtli ,

It's... I guess the ghost of their XMPP abandonment.

selokichtli ,

It's like saying people did it with Elon Musk because he is African.

selokichtli ,

I created several throwaway accounts through the years that were used for limited periods. Then, the passwords were randomized and forgotten/deleted. I wish I deleted all those comments and posts before the accounts, but AI wasn't a thing back then. There's a lesson to learn here.

selokichtli ,

I just blame the authors. I can see your point, the reviewing process was likely corrupt, but if it was, the authors are the ones to blame. It's just antisocial behavior, could even be called trolling. I don't know in your country, but in mine, authors' names can get into an article in misterious ways. Maybe someone was fedup with not receiving/having to give "due" credit.

selokichtli ,

Twitter should have died years ago, but somehow having Musk still there makes plenty of sense.

selokichtli , (edited )

I use a VPN. At least I try to.

selokichtli ,

Expect Google Search Pro. The most comprehensive web cache for only $19.99/mo!

selokichtli ,

Perfect for the genius bar.

selokichtli ,

Yeah, that will fix Apple being total utter assholes. Giving them what they want always fixes everyone being assholes.

selokichtli , (edited )

They did some awesome browsers back in the early 2000s. I couldn't think about browsing the web without Opera Mini back then.

selokichtli ,

Amazing piece of software. Reliable on the server side, agile and full of features on the mobile side. And they even made sure that sites like Twitter and Facebook could be used in the browser. What a pity the Opera branding ended like this.

selokichtli ,

Maybe this is the people telling the other competitors to fuck off with their own streaming services. Maybe they think staying loyal to just one of them, things can go back to resemble how it was +5 years ago.

selokichtli , (edited )

Their competition sucks big ass, too. I guess branding matters in this case. For example, once you watched the classic HBO TV series (The Sopranos, The Wire…), you don't need it anymore. The others have even less going on.

selokichtli ,

Oh, well. In general, I agree, but there must be examples that don't fit with your statement. In the end, companies pursue profit, ideally, offering a better service gives you exactly that. I know this rarely is the case, but it can happen.
