fucking hell, I'd think about leaving because having to survive the rabid child always behind me, that guy over there coughing the entire flight, that lady next to me who immediately started snoring, and the bi hourly "buy our perfume" plane wide adnnouncements would be hell without headphones

shneancy ,

I saw it flagging "the [...]. I am [...]" it didn't even care about the words in between, just decided to highlight the most common words in English in that one paragraph out of spite I guess.

It also once flagged my page numbering lmao, like I'm sorry I didn't know I had to come up with a new and exciting numeric system for every essay I submit

trans man here, I also prefer to smell like raspberries or coconuts over uh "sports", "extreme" or "blue". Though sometimes you get a nice smelling product in the men's section, like strong citrus or foresty, those are good

OpenAI collapses media reality with Sora AI video generator | If trusting video from anonymous sources on social media was a bad idea before, it's an even worse idea now::Hello, cultural singularity—soon, every video you see online could be completely fake.

    shneancy ,

It's funny that in the human history there will be a gap of around 100 years where photos and video were considered to be solid proof and evidence that could determine the outcome of somebody's future

we're back at square one I guess

    shneancy ,

if you actually were to try and engage in artistic expression you'd find out the whole process from conception to finishing your creation is something worth the time, and mistakes/accidents that often happen during it can bring new ideas to the surface. In that process you have the ultimate control over how good it turns out. Be it comically bad or a masterpiece there's a charm in how you have expressed your idea.

AI flattens all that to a button click and regurgitates what's already been made by somebody else, oftentimes creating something you've most likely already seen, somewhere, and won't remember for long.

    shneancy ,

let's see you speak once AI takes a jab at your field

    shneancy ,

AI is not just a "universal robot", it's something that can have the entire database of every existing vehicle and aircraft uploaded into it to learn from, then given a robotic body (robotics are still advancing may I remind you, not as loudly as AI but certainly forward every day), it could do your job faster, better, more reliably, and cheaper in the long run, maybe you'll even get the honour of fixing the mistakes it makes the first few weeks at your job to make it better, then you'll become obsolete.

Don't laugh at folks who are having their jobs usurped by soulless code right now, sooner or later - it'll happen to you.

    shneancy ,

that was not my point entirely but aight

    shneancy ,

just eat some of their cousins (i know nothing about biology) then look at them for long enough and I'm sure you'll hear something

    shneancy ,

I hate thinking so negatively about the future but the more the world seems to crumble around me the more I feel like we might be one of the last generations of humans that got to experience civilisation for a long time.

The planet is dying, fascism is spreading, the tensions are rising, and everyone has nukes! woo! future!

    shneancy ,

that's part of the "planet is dying" bit, since nobody who can do something about it is doing anything

in case you're not joking and actually don't know: AwkwardTurtle was one of the most universally disliked reddit mods, she modded a vast number of popular servers, and often banned people on a whim. There were multiple dramas surrounding her

    shneancy ,

so you know photography right, doing it in your phone is easy but it pales in comparison to professional quality, and it's mostly not because of the device, for your photo-taking machine to bring meaningful difference you need a certain skill level.

Here's a few tips how to improve dramatically even with just your phone! Manual is great and all but whatever algorithm your phone uses will always give you an ok photo, and you want to take both good and shit photos! Variety is the spice of life after all

    • turn on the 3x3 grid on your camera screen. Then try to allign people's eyes, faces etc with the top line horizontal in whatever orientation you use. Objects of interest go along them as well, or even in the bits where they cross. Landscapes look best when you get the horizion running the bottom horizontal line. For more information check out rules of composition

now photography is all about light, without it there would be no photo after all. Here's the 3 key setting that are fun to mess with:

    • go to "more modes" or similarly named menu in your camera. Select pro, here a few fun setting will appear

    • ISO controls brightness and grain, the bigger ISO the brighter the photo but the more grainy too

    • shutter speed control the lenght of exposure to light your photo gets, the longer shutter speed the brighter the photo but the steadier your hands need to be to compensate (with a very long shutter speed you can also take those fun light drawing photos, but that often needs a tripod or some sort of steady spot for your phone)

    • f stop, in phones you get maybe one or two options for that but this controls the depth of field and, you guessed it, brightness. The lower the number the more open your lens is and the more light flows in, but your depth of field gets smaller (blurry background)

most of photography is learning how to balance those 3 settings! All of them have their use, a sports photographer will use much different settings than a studio portait photographer.

though perhaps the most important rule of photography (and all of art) is that there are no rules, just guidelines, when hearing about a "rule" your first thought should be to see what happens when you break it, so then you can understand why it's a "rule" and perhaps even think of ways to break it with intent so the critics of the world can go "ahhh how clever" at your work :D

I'm not a girl nor autistic (though adhd) but I hope this brings you some fun :3

    shneancy ,

hell yeah :D how does that work? I never heard of that

    shneancy ,

wow I might have to try it! I love macro photgraphy :D

    shneancy ,

the moon is very bright - lower your ISO until you can see its features :)

    shneancy ,

ouuuu, I do love playing with how my photos look like before the light even reaches the sensor. I think one of my friends once got himself an old soviet lens, I'll have to ask him about how it shot

    shneancy ,

guess I'll need to start hunting for vintage lenses lol! I've only stuck to modern ones so far to expand my range but you're tempting me a lot with those comments :D

    shneancy ,

bold of you to assume they're using it for more than their weekly groceries

    shneancy ,

the real photos just looked like professional photography, that's how your photos will look like when you hire a photographer

    shneancy ,

same here, even when someone hasn't changed my mind 100% I'll often acknowledge if any of their arguments made me want to delve deeper into a topic and think more about my opinion on it

    shneancy ,

the only way for me to progress is body doubling

    shneancy ,

there's that one US medical website that often comes up at the top of google searches and when you select "only necessary cookies" it tells you to fuck off basically lmao, something about "european privacy" or something

    shneancy ,

tetris around a cube where you need to keep up with 4 separate tetris games at once and create a line along the entire circumstance for it to disappear

    shneancy ,

being smart is less fun than people think tbh, being twice exceptional is even less fun

    shneancy ,

lmao right? Mensa members are allegedly smart and yet they pay money to be in the special club of the smartest of everyone look at me

    shneancy ,

a lot of brits pronounce the "tu" at the beginning of words like "chu"

    shneancy ,

if it's a pebble why the hell are they trying so hard to stop it?

    shneancy ,

"would fuck" but English speakers hate- speaking so they shorten everything

    shneancy ,

being simply observed gives me a -50% competence to anything i'm trying to do

    shneancy ,

i did the same in primary school, the result was the same as in the post lmao
