bigots' "reasons" to be bigots aren't really reasons, they're smoke screens. Against my better judgment I argued with many in the past, with one particular person I managed to take the conversation to a logical conclusion, after hours of disassembling their baseless arguments there was just one left - "i don't like them they disgust me". Facts over feelings my ass. I believe this is at the core of all bigoted ideas - fear that then transforms into resentment and disgust, that then gets dressed up in all manner of reasons and arguments so they can feel justified in feeling that way

I think this is more of a defence against scammers honestly, with a convincing enough scam you could make valve belive an account holder was dead and you're a family member wanting to transfer their account to yours.

Hell, I saw my dead friend's account message me in Russian, contacted support about it, and all they could do was remove the hacker's access, not even lock or delete that account.

And how could they? Unless you have your full name, address, and other identifying information somewhere on your account (strongly ill-advised, obviously) Valve can't cross check it with a death certificate and take action, for all they know you could be cooperating with the hacker or submitting fake information to "prank" your friend by getting their account removed.

Allowing account transfers would open a whole new can of worms.

Just write down the password and login if you know you're going to go. I don't think Valve under Gabe would have issues with that. Though I do worry for its future

yeah it's really weird. Like if someone said something racist/otherwise bigoted i'd try to argue with them too? And pointing out they have no valid sources for their bigotry is an effective tactic that might make them question their beliefs

despite being tech savvy and knowledgeable about various scamming methods I once nearly fell for an obvious scam.

I was expecting a package and when I woke up in the morning I saw on my phone that there was a delivery attempt. Clicked the link to redirect/retry delivery and only when it asked me for my banking details it hit me- what the hell was the postman doing at 5am trying to deliver packages?

anybody can get scammed, hell, the famous "i troll scammers" youtube guy once fell for a scam and nearly lost his youtube account! Getting cocky is the worst you can do

If I google something in English I'm going to get results in English (plus localised ads of course). But if I have a linguistic question about English, no matter how advanced, I'm going to get surface level results in Polish.

Tbf whatever info they have on me imples they're very confused. I get ads about: "stay legally in Poland! :)" and "leave Poland and get a job in the Netherlands/Germany! :)" then "polish lessons!" and "English lessons!", I'm starting to think that in the eyes of the AI overlords I'm both polish and not polish at the same time.

i only bothered to read the last bit so - stealing from the artists? Ha! that's words of someone who doesn't know how the film/TV show industry works. All artists (spare for maybe the actors, depending on their contract) already got paid, maybe they got a bonus for the popularity of the show, but they don't own the rights to the show and therefore receive fuck all after that.
