I'd say running the VPS as a proxy or nat64 setup would be the way to go. Cgnat kinda messes everything up.

slazer2au ,

Directly no. How would Adguard know the request is for Vaultwerden and suppress the 404?

As others have said, you will need a reverse proxy to make this work. The proxy will listen on port 80/443 and direct the request to the correct application based on path or domain name. Adguard and VW will need to listen on other ports.

Have you ever bough an external hardrive only to take the disk out of it?

Hiya, so am looking to buy more storage and while browsing am seeing some external harddisks, such as Western Digital My Book and Seagate Expansion Desktop for cheaper than the internal harddisks themselves. Have seen this one video from KTZ Systems where he bought up multiple of these external ones just to open them up and use...

slazer2au ,

Yes. Be aware there will be some pin blocking you need to do to make it work right because vendors know this trick.

slazer2au ,

What an absolute numpty.

Reminds me of the Defcon talk about how the feds caught a card skimmer because he mixed illegal and legal funds while using the same password for multiple sites. And the password was some Russian variation of ass.

slazer2au ,

This sounds stupid but what about tdarr?

Stash the file in a staging directory that tdarr watches, have tdarr convert the file to something small like h265. Output the converted file to a folder rsync watches.

slazer2au ,

Will the Dutch entry be disqualified for realism?

slazer2au ,

Ah the old helping your uncle jack off a horse or helping your uncle, jack, off a horse.

slazer2au ,

This may to against self hosting but doesn't MS Word have this capability?

slazer2au ,

This is also why testing is important. Speaking of which, when was the last time you tested your backups?

slazer2au ,

Good on ya kiddo. If you want we can go to the park and play some catch after dinner.

How to diplomatically handle car drivers who use their horns to demand cyclists make room for them

In this case I operate on the assumption car drivers are inherently good people. So when I am cycling in the middle of the lane (when the lane is too narrow for safe sharing), and they are behind me hitting their horn, I give them the benefit of the doubt as to whether they are being a malicious prick....

slazer2au ,

Sounds like a situation where everyone is being as asshole.

Yes they are an ass for blasting their horn, yes you are an ass for stopping in the middle of the road, just cycle on and ignore.

What file format do you store your media in?

Hello! I recently listened to a podcast that talked about how storing media files in .av1 format is very efficient and storage-friendly. I've been storing my files in .mkv format, but now I'm considering using Handbrake or a similar service to convert all my video files to .av1 if it's more compressed than .mkv. So;...

slazer2au ,

In whichever format it came in. If someone has a guide on how to convert from whatever to x264/5 with minimal loss it would be appreciated.

When I try with hand break the quality dips to much to not make the conversion worth it.

What is the most appropriate way of tracking web traffic?

I have my personal blog, made with Hugo and hosted on GitHub pages. Initially I did not turn on any kind of web tracking / web analytics, because I do not like tracking at all. But I want to make my blog better and to achieve it, I need a feedback loop about traffic. For example, what are the most popular publications, or how...

slazer2au ,

How are you on self hosting something? You could give a couple of these a try. Data stays with you so you get to decide how much to track.

slazer2au ,

As long as both ends are a matching pair you should be ok. Of they ran single mode fibre use single mode sfps.

Check out FS.com
Plenty of options for plugables.

slazer2au ,

Report it to safe search so chrome starts blocking the page.

cd ~/jellyfin/
nano docker-compose.yml (change version to latest or pin to 10.9)
sudo docker compose down && sudo docker compose up -d

slazer2au ,

Neat.

slazer2au ,

Forgejo is a community owned fork of Gitea which is privately owned.

One day we can expect Gitea to pull the license for money as we see almost every private company do. Although I do hope they don't.

slazer2au ,

to start with

PiHole DNS server
Jellyfin Home media server
forgejo Git server to hold your docker compose files.

slazer2au ,

Is it vlc struggling or your entire PC?

I has one boss who wanted to stream 2 4K60 cctv feeds to his laptop while in the office. Needless to say his laptop struggles with a single 4K I didn't even bother setting up the second feed.

slazer2au ,

Na just throw ads into system logs. Or do what Ubuntu does and throw an advert every time you run apt upgrade.

slazer2au ,

Only one panic a day?

slazer2au ,

Honestly that sounds overkill for someones. First time into self hosting.
I would start with something like a Nuc or a secondhand 1 liter PC (dell optiplex/HP elite mini/Lenovo ThinkCenter) which are dirt cheap on eBay.

Do you have an indication of what you want to run that requires that mid range gaming setup?

slazer2au ,

Learn Linux TV has a good series as does Jeff Geerling both are free on YouTube.

I prefer the Learn Linux TV one as it goes through how to integrate git and different distros.

Anti-web discrimination by banks and online services - is this even legal?

Banks, email providers, booking sites, e-commerce, basically anything where money is involved, it's always the same experience. If you use the Android or iOS app, you stayed signed in indefinitely. If you use a web browser, you get signed out and asked to re-authenticate constantly - and often you have to do it painfully using a...

slazer2au ,

I am failing to see any discrimination here.

The 4 banks I use all have the same policy. Auto sign out after inactivity from web.
Web pages don't really know if a monitor is turned off due to inactivity so it is safer to log them out.
because who locks their screen when they aren't using their system?
When using an app, you have to re auth with a device specific pin or bio metric if the screen turns off due to inactivity or switching apps.

The Sign (lemmy.stuart.fun)

For context, in case you don't have kids (therefor you probably don't watch Bluey), the family in the car (the Heelers) was selling their house to move for a job but ultimately, the dad (Bandit) decided staying at their house with family was more important. As a final act of demonstration, he lifts the for-sale sign out of the...

IBM owns Red Hat right? Which owns Ansible.... Big blue trying to take over the IoC space.

slazer2au ,

You should try launching Mass Effect LE from steam. It opens Origin, to then opens the Mass Effect launcher so you can pick which game to play.

slazer2au ,

The launchers are pretty lightweight and don't consume much. It is just annoying to buy the game on one store, it launches another store, only to launch a game launcher, then you can pick r̶̶e̶̶d̶̶,̶̶ ̶̶g̶̶r̶̶e̶̶e̶̶n̶̶̶,̶̶ ̶̶o̶̶r̶̶ ̶̶b̶̶l̶̶u̶̶e̶ I mean ME 1 2 or 3

slazer2au ,

Try to scout opening ports on your modem. CloudFlare tunnel plus traefik reverse proxy is an option you can go.

There are many how-to guides like Jim's Garage that walk you through setting it up.

slazer2au ,

I sync my KeePass database to Dropbox.

I have access to Dropbox on my phone and my desktop. Of I change either I can copy the file to the new device and setup the sync again.

slazer2au ,

Move services away from known ports and don't use ports that end with well known port numbers (22,80,443).

Moving ssh from 22 to 2222 or 443 to 10443 does nothing. You have ~65000 ports. Pick something random like 6744 or 2458

slazer2au ,

Moving ports does help. It is not a sure thing but when used in conjunction with other security mechanism can help get rid the of the low hanging fruit of scriptkiddies and automated scans.

slazer2au ,

Because it is a website created by a Kiwifarm transphobic individual who is scalping data from discord and selling access under the disguise of "seeing what your friends are up to" when in reality it is used to harass people.

Ntts did a video on it.

slazer2au ,

I am sure FB will give those who paid 1/11 of the amount back as credit on the Facebook marketplace.

Just like every other online retailer. Oh you paid $40 for something that we now have to refund you? Here is store credit for $9.76.

slazer2au ,

You scheduled 15 min for this presentation and I have another meeting after this. So cliff notes only please.

slazer2au ,

More impressed they did that and no one else came along to fuck it up.

slazer2au ,

If you are running your servies in a single VM in your DMZ then that is your point of failure. You could spin up 2 micro VMs and run something like Docker swarm to make sure there are 2 trafik proxies running.

slazer2au ,

If you want to do business in the EU then you need to follow the EU rules.

Just like if you do business in the US you have to follow US rules, if you do business in China you have to follow Chinese rules.

Gdpr already showed that if you don't want to you can geoblock EU countries and not have to comply.

Imagine Russia or Iran doing something similar and the problem becomes obvious

Those countries already have rules that if you break the site is blocked. Remember the /r/drugs fiasco from Reddit years ago?
Companies who do business in those countries generally have a dedicated arm to deal with those countries in the form of sovereign clouds or will hire a local company to be a front for them.

slazer2au ,

You will want a couple things. First get yourself some VoIP phones. Yealink is a decent brand. Grand stream Wave is a good option for Android and iOS softphones.

Secondly download a PBX. I recommend Fusion PBX others will recommend 3cx but the main thing is to avoid Asterisk.

Finally get yourself a SIP trunk from a phone provider.

Now cry in pain as you are constantly bombarded with SIP attacks in your home.

slazer2au ,

Owned by a for profit *aaS provider whose motivations are money.

Fusion PBX is a front end of freeswitch is not. Mark and the team at Fusion are top notch with their support.

slazer2au ,

mostly open. Here is the git repo for FusionPBX so you can see. https://github.com/fusionpbx/fusionpbx

Super easy to get off the ground. Here is the install page https://www.fusionpbx.com/download.php

We used it as a multi tenant hosted pbx back when I was working for an ISP. works really well.
