Fine. They can hide the stuff they don't force me to pay for. I have a right to know where my money is going.

thecrotch ,

You don't see how the military operating in darkness with no oversight has ended up in disaster time and time again?

thecrotch ,

Then don't make me pay for it. That's my intelligence, I bought it. So did you. What else do you pay for that you're never allowed to see or even know about?

thecrotch ,

I haven't met a Linux user that would consider leaving the factory installed OS instead of immediately blowing it out and installing their own

2G, 3G, 4G, 5G mobile data made some sense as it represents generational leaps in the technology itself but then Xfinity wants to advertise "10g" internet...

Comcast says it represents a 10 Gigabit cable internet network they are building (it doesn’t exist) so they are basically changing the meaning of the g from generation to gig to act like 10g is 5 generations better (or twice as fast)…or that they have a 10 gigabit network. Neither is accurate. It’s still just cable...

thecrotch ,

Good idea on theory but it would have to constantly be doing speed tests in the background and those eat up a ton of bandwidth. All the phone knows is what kind of network it's connected to and what kind of signal strength it has

thecrotch ,

That's not an effective metric because you don't know the network speed of the host that the user was downloading from. It's impossible to tell if the network is slow, or the site they visited was throttled to .5mb. speed tests work because the server you're downloading from is a known entity

Reddit has never turned a profit in nearly 20 years, but filed to go public anyway (www.cnn.com)

Reddit has never turned a profit in nearly 20 years, but filed to go public anyway::Reddit, the message board site known for its chronically online userbase and for originating much internet discourse, filed for its long-anticipated initial public offering on Thursday.

thecrotch ,

The "old internet" hasn't gone away. It's easier than ever for your average person to set up their own website. Look at all the shit you can do with WordPress, usually for free and usually with minimal technical knowledge or experience. Reddit/Facebook/Google/etc have done nothing at all to prevent people from doing that. The people still choose reddit/Facebook/google. I don't know we're supposed to change that without actually removing people's freedom of choice.

thecrotch ,

Nobody's violating your rights by publishing an update to the software they provide. If you don't like it android gives you an option to freeze apps at a particular version. You can let go of your pearls now.

Korea slaps $327,067 fine on Twitch for suspending service (www.koreatimes.co.kr)

Korea slaps $327,067 fine on Twitch for suspending service::The Korean telecommunications watchdog said Friday it has slapped a fine of 435 million won ($327,067) on the U.S. live video streaming platform Twitch, which suspended its video-on-demand (VOD) service in the country last year.

The poster you're replying to is suggesting a static IP in the apipa range, not an apipa assigned ip. You'd already know a static IP because you set it yourself.

thecrotch ,

Setting the default gateway is unnecessary for a network of peers that are already on the subnet. It can only lead to problems as the hosts try to send every request outside their network to 169.254.1.1, which doesn't even exist in this scenario

thecrotch ,

You would not. In the example given 169.254.1.1 doesn't even exist, no machine is listening on that address so it couldn't possibly do any good if it wanted to

The psychopathy. This isn't unique to CEOs, it applies to nearly anyone in a position of power since the dawn of time.

thecrotch ,

My guess is sociopathy. Same with politicians.

When I lost my job over the summer I put my resume on dice and immediately had 3-4 guys with Indian accents calling me every day. I found a new job within a week. I still get emails and texts though, can't put the genie back in the bottle

thecrotch ,

Exactly, she's a victim. A victim of the life she chose and worked really hard to achieve. I bet she cries herself to sleep every night on her Scrooge McDuck style piles of cash.

I think Paul McCartney is/was a much bigger star than taytay and has been taking busses his entire career

thecrotch , (edited )

Idk how any of that is relevant. If Paul, at the height of his fame, could ride a bus without being mobbed then Taylor Swift can fly commercial with an entire airport's worth of security watching her back

thecrotch ,

He takes public city busses in NYC, London, and probably other places. Of course he's not taking a city bus on tour with him it's weird you would even imply that's what I meant

https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/paul-mccartney-enjoys-taking-bus-find-grounding.html/

thecrotch ,

And if he, a much bigger star, can reguarly ride a public bus around Manhattan without being mobbed I am confident that Taylor Swift could handle going through VIP checkin at Laguardia surrounded by armed security just like scores of other celebrities do.

Here's a list of 8 of them.

https://www.thethings.com/stars-who-fly-commercial/

And here's another list of 26 more

https://www.tmz.com/photos/image_jpg_20231020_8da245f0707046bfbaf7ceb51208e721/

thecrotch ,

She could also fly commercial, there's no reason not to

thecrotch ,

Oh yeah? Well your butt smells LIKE A BUTT

thecrotch ,

Then you shouldn't have had it circumcised

thecrotch ,

CAN-SPAM is effective for legitimate businesses with something to lose. Several times I've ended up on a list with an unsubscribe link that doesn't work (looking at you, Walgreens). I contact their support, and if they don't do anything I send them an email demanding they remove me and cc'ing the federal trade commission and my states attorney general. Hasn't failed yet.

thecrotch ,

Today, history was made. For the first time someone politely admitted they were wrong on the internet

thecrotch ,

Frances problem was they were still trying to fight WW1. The Maginot line would have been really effective in 1917

Tucker Carlson has done for bowties what Adolf Hitler did for red armbands

    thecrotch ,

It's not just Africans. It doesn't make sense that Indian/Hispanic/Russian/American accents exist either. Earth ceased to exist hundreds of years ago, and there are no homogenous cultures anymore (except the va'ruun, their accent makes sense). In Bethesdas effort to be inclusive they treated accents like they're a racial attribute rather than cultural. In reality there would be a UC accent, a freestar accent, etc but the accents depicted in game would be long extinct.

    thecrotch ,

It's not just regrets. The dude spends all day painting pictures of Iraqi children. He's fucking haunted by his past.

    thecrotch ,

Did you just reinvent radial tires and retreads?

    thecrotch ,

You badly need an email client that doesn't automatically load pictures

    thecrotch ,

Because your two drives combined are smaller than a single layer dvd

    thecrotch ,

Have you tried blowing out the fan? After 13 years it might be all gunked up

    thecrotch ,

It's not a TV though, it's a streaming box. If they ever do make an actual TV that's going to be really confusing.

    thecrotch ,

It's free and open source, unlike Microsoft's proprietary Ms. Pacman

    thecrotch ,

Is it anything like the daily shit storm in every Linux community?

    thecrotch ,

If you can't find an OS that works for you between android, iOS, the multitude of custom android roms, symbian, and Manjaro on the pinephone, then I suggest you either stop being so picky or make your own.

    thecrotch ,

If ever there was a time to not rely on autocorrect it is when you are calling people idiots

    thecrotch ,

Wait until you hear about Rolex

Garmin does not do way more. Most of their "apps" are just replacement watch faces. Garmin doesn't even try to compete on features, their selling points are battery life, price, and integration with other Garmin fitness accessories. Apple/Google/Samsung watches are so capable they're basically tiny phones.

    thecrotch , (edited )

Pictured: a couple of my "apple toys"

    https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/e6f9cce6-3fdc-453f-97af-d0fa04cc55f5.jpeg

Garmin seems to be doing fairly well targeting people who want a simpler smartwatch with a focus on fitness and battery life. I don't don't know who you think you're benefitting by lying about their capabilities, but anyone who buys one on your recommendation expecting a feature rich device is going to be sorely disappointed.

    thecrotch ,

I literally work at Garmin lmao. We don't need your help. You're not helping by lying about us.

    thecrotch ,

He's full of shit, and the people upvoting him don't know anything about Garmin watches. Garmin doesn't compete with apple. They don't want to compete with apple. Garmin doesn't take the kitchen sink approach that apple/Google/Samsung do. They focus on fitness and battery life, they're competing with Fitbit. This liar is pulling the old "I like it, therefore it's the best at everything" trope. He's a child. Ignore him.
