I remember seeing it when it made it to DVD at some point and not making it all the way through the movie due to not enjoying it. I never tried to rewatch it after the fact.

tiredofsametab ,

Me, living in Japan: that's cheap for pizza and a side!

Not even any places deliver to where I live now so I have to drive a couple towns over.

tiredofsametab ,

I imagine data security and what the government would know is putting some off. It is part of the reason the national ID (My Number) faltered.

Off the top of my head, and I'm sure there are more, people use: tinder, bumble, Pairs, Zwei, Zekushi, and probably more. Pairs and Zwei, at least, are geared toward long-term and marriage. Pairs had a very bad UX and, of course, a cost. I did meet some people on there, but nothing lasted (one nearly did, but I wasn't doing another LTR with a barely-functional alcoholic that otherwise was a great match).

tiredofsametab ,

I moved from social to run a few months ago after being fed up. I like it.

tiredofsametab ,

I'll make up for it since I'm usually 3x/day.

tiredofsametab ,

Two to three meals a day, almost no snacks, generally a decent amount of fiber. Mom's basically the same and I think grandmother was. Mom has been diagnosed with various forms of IBS. Dad has Celiac's and a DNA test I took said increased risk.

If I go keto, almost all the issues disappear. Trying to do that is basically impossible whilst living with my wife because I can't just not make food and not keep anything I shouldn't eat in the house (my willpower eventually crumbles when I'm busy or stressed).

tiredofsametab ,

It's almost as though they label all rooms so people know what they are and don't go in the wrong one.

tiredofsametab ,

I am now picturing someone flying a plane in the form of window blinds.

tiredofsametab ,

Basically every tunnel and such here has an AM station to tune into for traffic/weather conditions (weather can be wildly different at the end of some longer tunnels, especially the ones that gain elevation or open to a bridge over a valley).

tiredofsametab ,

Since there are no arrows indicating direction, all paths begin at Arch and end with questioning who you are.

(It took me way too long to understand that "ever used linux before?" didn't have two separate 'no' branches)

tiredofsametab ,

if less than 5% of users still regularly cast from a desktop browser.

Wait, I could do that?! It doesn't matter a ton at the moment, but I might want to do that in future. I'll have to look into it.

tiredofsametab ,

My problem with gimp is that I've never really used Photoshop (I may have back in it's very early versions, but I don't think so). I mostly just use something like Ms paint to take and crop screenshots or photos. Jumping into gimp (and presumably PS as well) is going to confuse people trying to do that.

I still don't know how to use gimp just because I never need all that functionality and don't have time to learn. Maybe someday.

tiredofsametab ,

This image convinced me to make pizza. No glue, though I guess it technically involved flour and water (and starch and/or cellulose on the pre-shredded cheese)

tiredofsametab ,

It at least could have put SEPTember at month 7, OCTOber at month 8, etc. whilst it was fixing things.

Netflix Windows app is set to remove its downloads feature, while introducing ads (www.techradar.com)

Netflix has managed to annoy a good number of its users with an announcement about an upcoming update to its Windows 11 (and Windows 10) app: support for adverts and live events will be added, but the ability to download content is being taken away....

tiredofsametab ,

I got not long after they stopped DVDs and the selection plummeted in the areas I was interested (a lot of niche films and foreign films for language practice, so not super common). Have not regretted it.

tiredofsametab ,

Depends. Short options are probably safer if the particular version and flavor of tar are unknown.

tiredofsametab ,

But as a user, when I delete something, it should go away forever.

Years of working tech support in my past tells me that this is a lie. "OMG restore this!"

tiredofsametab ,

The install part is easy. It's when some update breaks everything that the madness sets in

tiredofsametab ,

The last time, something hosed my whole install. I stopped using linux for a while after that. I'm stuck on a mac for work, much to my protestation, and I can't justify replacing the graphics card on my personal PC at this moment, so I'm mostly just hanging out in Windows (mostly because I do video editing as well and I have issues with Davinci in Linux that may or may not be related to nvidia).

X automatically changed 'Twitter' to 'X' in domain names, breaking legit URLs (mashable.com)

On Monday, it appears X attempted to encourage users to cease referring to it as Twitter and instead adopt the name X. Some users began noticing that posts viewed via X for iOS were changing any references of "Twitter.com" to "X.com" automatically....

tiredofsametab ,

Someone at twitter has clearly never heard of the buttbuttination of Lincoln.

  1. I rarely carry my phone at home unless I'm also going to be outside.
  2. Washer can be variable on time and such (and mine's not even an IoT/"smart" one)
tiredofsametab ,

My phone can send alerts to my watch up to like 30m away, so I would still get notifications anywhere inside and many places outside my house.

tiredofsametab ,

Not that I've found, actually. Certainly not on any that I set by default. Also, if I don't know how long the washer will run, I can't just set an alarm for it, now can I?

tiredofsametab ,

Counterpoint: some people eat food so covered in spices/herbs/etc. they lose the ability to taste more subtle flavours.

Apex Legends streamers surprised to find aimbot and other hacks added to their PCs in the middle of major competition via anti-cheat software (www.pcgamer.com)

Wow it finally happened. So glad I switched to steam running on linux mint last week. I refused to install helldivers because it wanted to install some no holds barred god level permissions anti-cheat software. Windows 11 was the last straw for me. Good times.....

tiredofsametab ,

Fyi, it's "no holds barred" as in no type of hold is disallowed. "no holes barred" is a decidedly different sort of event

Appreciation / shock at workplace IT systems

After self hosting several services for a few users, with SSO, backups, hardware issues etc, I really appreciate how good the IT was in my old company. Everything was connected, smooth, slick and you could tell it was secure. I had very few issues and when I did, they were quickly solved. Doing this all at scale for thousands of...

tiredofsametab ,

I've been in IT for a couple decades at this point. I stopped doing almost any swlf-hosted stuff years ago as I just don't have the time or energy to deal with things. There's a lot to keep up on with technologies, security, etc. not to mention all the constants of keeping things up-to-date, back-ups, troubleshooting issues, and more

tiredofsametab ,

I didn't know Direct Memory Access was still so controversial! (I feel old now).

Online vape seller has ‘no intention of stopping’ shipments to Australia, despite nationwide ban — ‘We have no intention of stopping just because of one twat in Canberra.’ (www.vice.com)

Online vape seller has ‘no intention of stopping’ shipments to Australia, despite nationwide ban — ‘We have no intention of stopping just because of one twat in Canberra.’::The New Zealand-based seller issued a notice to its Australian customers that shipments will continue regardless of the government's vape reform.

tiredofsametab ,

In Japan they basically do this. It's not illegal to import the liquid nicotine so that's what people do and mix their own (or vape shops also do that in a less-than-legal fashion (allegedly))

tiredofsametab ,

That was the second thing I saw. The first was the weird fries box with a straw, heh

tiredofsametab ,

Man, I was alive during the '80s but missed my chance.

tiredofsametab ,

There is incentive to make you view many pages and see items. I imagine that is the highest priority.

With structured item data and putting things in correct categories (and the marketplace actually enforcing products follow this system), searching could be much better. However, it's cheaper to not do that and, combined with my above educated guess, we are where we are now.

I try to use websites with better, more-detailed search for this reason.

tiredofsametab ,

Not just scraping data but spreading disinfo and radicalizing people. There was one case recently I saw about that. Not just AI lovers, but potentially a number of AI applications

tiredofsametab ,

I'm not going to give the fediverse my address and ask it where the closest dentist/clinic/restaurant is. Also, even if I did, 見る人がほとんどわからないかも。

tiredofsametab , (edited )

I keep trying to click but I get SSL_ERROR_RX_RECORD_TOO_LONG on all lemmy.today links and malwarebytes thinks the site is compromised (and has for at least weeks if not months). Hrm.

Edit: I was hoping someone might have something helpful to say as to why this might be, but sure just downvote instead.

tiredofsametab ,

I've only ever activated it by accident (I think it's double-click the power button on my phone). Never actually used the thing.

tiredofsametab ,

How long would it take to burn one? I remember when CD writers came out, and burning a disk at 1x meant the 60-70 minute wait.

As a back-up solution, I do like it. I'm wondering what the cost will be.

tiredofsametab ,

First time I've seen something like that, but my initial thought was: wow, that's a lot of parts that can break and things that can go wrong (compared to only encrypting the data itself before storage).

Are there any genuine benefits to AI?

I can see some minor benefits - I use it for the odd bit of mundane writing and some of the image creation stuff is interesting,, and I knew that a lot of people use it for coding etc - but mostly it seems to be about making more cash for corporations and stuffing the internet with bots and fake content. Am I missing something...

tiredofsametab ,

The one thing I can say for sure is that, sometimes, when I library or something has bad documentation it might be able to give a solution quicker than diving I to the source code

tiredofsametab ,

I live in earthquake, volcano, and tsunami territory, so I think I'll keep charging to 100% for now.

When I lived in the US and went through a hurricane, we had no power for almost 2 weeks and that stuck with me.

tiredofsametab ,

I left the US for less raw salary but better job security and living somewhere I like more (in most respects; nowhere is perfect). Still make way above average for Japan and have a great standard of living

tiredofsametab ,

If you read Japanese, it's really obvious the Tokyo one is AI; the signage largely makes no sense, has incorrect characters, has weird mixing of characters, etc.
