... Why? His content can be enjoyable, but I'm not sure it relates here.

toynbee ,

A lot of YouTubers seem to have recently claimed that their landlords are anonymous corporations with no clear individual proclaimed as owner or responsible party.

I didn't know where else to ask rule (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

How do you shave your balls? Every time I've tried with my trimmer it pinches and tears my sack and I'm too traumatized to try it again unless there's a full proof bloodless method. Usually I just pluck as many as I can tolerate while I'm sitting around watching YouTube or somethin. But it's such a pain (literally)....

toynbee ,

Little Johnny was a scientist, little Johnny is no more ...

toynbee ,

No judgement for your choices, but just so you know, it's basically no work for the majority of games.

toynbee ,

Yeah, anti-cheat and the Ubisoft launcher have been the only consistent obstacles. protondb.com is a fantastic resource, though.

I'm not a fan of LoL, so I can't say from personal experience, but it looks like PlayOnLinux claims to support it. Hope you find your joy!

toynbee ,

Your question isn't dumb. You just haven't been exposed to the environment. Please feel free to ask any question about this you have and, if I don't answer, someone else probably will.

If you install the Linux version of Steam, it should allow you to download any game. There's a checkbox in the Steam settings that says something like "run non compatible games through proton" (not what it says, but the general sentiment). Checking that and restarting Steam once is the extent of the setup required; after that, it's essentially the same process as running a game in Windows (with the few exceptions mentioned by another commenter). Non Steam games should be able to be run by Lutris, PlayOnLinux or adding a non Steam game to Steam, but I mostly haven't done that myself so I can't vouch for it. Sincerely, for most games, it's an easy process.

I'm no expert, but if you decide to pursue this and get stuck, please feel free to reach out to me and I'll do my best to help. The link below seems like a good starting point:

toynbee , (edited )

I'm sorry, as much as I'd love to, I don't have an answer to this.

edit: corrected a word.

toynbee ,

I've played Helldivers 2 with no obstacles and no additional setup.

toynbee ,

Ah, I apologize. I definitely was not fully awake when I read your original comment.

toynbee ,

I don't think I've ever met anyone in real life who has heard of this movie without being introduced to it, but it's a favorite for me. Thank you for this reference (also impressively apt).

toynbee ,

Both the joke and your username are enjoyable.

toynbee ,

Well, of course dating apps want your date-a.

(I'm just kidding and sincerely hate this.)

toynbee ,

There's kind of a scary face in the middle of the washing machine in the thumbnail.

toynbee ,

Raising Skinny Elephants Is Utterly Boring ... Or so I've heard.

toynbee ,

It seems very likely that this drop-down menu was not populated by one person, or perhaps was even populated by multiple databases written by very different people with highly disparate levels of grammar knowledge - maybe even different first languages.

Or someone thought it was funny, like you said. I'm not here to judge.

toynbee ,

This is an interesting interpretation of "achievable."

toynbee ,

I'm pretty sure there's nothing in this image that means anything to me.

Except the first username ... Unfortunately.

Randomly getting Notion email, after having deleted my account years ago... (slrpnk.net)

Welp I guess this is the perfect example of companies not deleting your credentials and account info when asking for it... I deleted my Notion account several years ago. And completely randomly today got an email from them about data retention, assuming this is one of those "important" emails they have to send out. Sadly, years...

toynbee ,

With self hosted email and at least Proton Mail (and probably other paid solutions), you can set up a "catch all" address. With that, any non existing email gets redirected to one; for me, I have spam@domain.com so, while myname@domain.com goes to my inbox, thisaddressisinvalid@domain.com and, I don't know, walmart@domain.com both go to spam@domain.com. I don't need an individual entry for every alias and I can specifically block any address that's particularly spammy or compromised.

I hear that you can have a similar setup with something called SimpleLogin, but I've never tried that.

toynbee ,

This makes me think of Starship Titanic.

toynbee ,

While I very strongly agree with your message, I have to say that this is one of the least fitting usernames I've ever seen.

toynbee ,

No, you'd have to remove Windows. Much more enjoyable!

toynbee ,

Given that cd is "change directory," I assume cf is meant to be "change folder."

toynbee ,

For the first half of the first sentence of your post, I thought you were taking about Neuralink.

toynbee ,

Unless it's trained on preexisting Facebook posts.

toynbee ,

I rarely know if I'm sad or happy, can they teach me?

toynbee ,

Until you said that and I looked again, I thought that was some sort of stylized Xbox controller.

toynbee ,

I am a native English speaker and don't believe your reading comprehension is to blame here.

It seems as though the OP saw an Amazon review entitled "Run pant" and envisioned the following scenario:

  • you are at an odd race in which articles of clothing such as hats, pants, shirts, etc. are competing to determine which clothing item is the best as defined by the winner of the race
  • you are attending as a supporter of pant(s)
  • the race starts but no clothing starts running (ie, all articles remain still and do not engage in the competition)
  • in support of pant(s), you shout the title of the review ("run, pant!") in the hopes that pants start running first and win the race.

It's a thinker for sure.

Edit: on re reading, it sounds like all clothing except for pants started running at the beginning of the race, so you are trying to encourage the pants to participate, despite their apparent reluctance. They are your favorite, after all.

toynbee ,

:( I apologize; that was the opposite of my intent.

toynbee ,

I would be worried about choking in my sleep if I fell asleep with a lozenge in my mouth.

toynbee ,

I like how you spell "the downside." It's very innovative.

toynbee ,

I'm sure you know this, but to to supplement your comment for future readers, UUIDs are also a good solution for partitions.

toynbee ,

Virtual drives also have a fun and relevant prefix!

toynbee ,

Right. I don't think they and I are in disagreement - just trying to help expand their statement. Thanks!

toynbee ,

I may be wrong, since I've never actually seen the movie, but I initially thought it was from [Duel.

toynbee ,

I must have confused the two. Thanks for the clarification!

toynbee ,

I once made an RCE reference on Reddit and was viciously down voted without apparent reason.

I hereby upvote you both because I appreciate this reference and because my past self deserves closure.

toynbee ,

Just a guess, but probably some kind of "emergency broadcast" type of thing?

toynbee ,

I think this individual was going for lower hanging fruit (and presumably hoping for lighter consequences if they got caught, though I'm not sure that's what they would have gotten).

In this case, after talking to neighbors, it seemed like they were just going down the street, briefly stopping at each driveway, breaking into whatever cars they could, quickly going through the glove compartment and center console, and stealing anything they perceived to be of value.
