Imagine having rootkits and APTs on your system, just to play some overpriced games, which you are later, remotely stopped from playing.

ulterno ,
@ulterno@lemmy.kde.social avatar

I'd rather give my time and money to a game that I find worth paying for rather than pirating, but you do you.
Also, pirated games, like any other Windows program, work on Wine. Maybe not all, but not all Windows software work on Wine anyway.

Everyone who wants more of that, stop adding "/s" to your posts.

Even better, start using /s for serious instead

Coming from Paint.NET, I first tried Photoshop and I felt its controls to be non-intuitive, so I reverted to Paint.NET.
Later, I started using GIMP and coming from someone with no experience in either of them, GIMP and Photoshop are equally non-intuitive, so whenever someone complaining about GIMP, feels like they are coming from Photoshop, I just discount their rating.

Inkscape is a vector graphics editor, which is different from GIMP.

ulterno ,
@ulterno@lemmy.kde.social avatar

Right.
I feel like the text part is something GIMP should actually make an overlapping feature. That and basic shapes, which would make it much more useful for basic stuff.

But then, I'm neither a GIMP dev nor a heavy user and I have no idea of their target audience.

If you are making memes, Inkscape is what you are using most of the times. Though the lack of 2 click and 1 drag cropping, makes me feel a bit frustrated (still, you can crop).

I’m gonna have one crapbox prebuilt just for the windows things

I did that too. For older games.
Then I went ahead and installed Linux on that one too.

ulterno ,
@ulterno@lemmy.kde.social avatar

Glitches and cloud outages happen on Linux too, but erectile dysfunction is definitely a Windows problem.

Similarly, had you switched to Arch in your teens, you would never have had marital issues.

Amethyst

That reminded me of AMD's old Windows driver (accompanying software).

A lot of Linux Distros seem to have Firefox telemetry disabled by default (even the minimal, one-time ping, telling Mozilla to know there is another user), so that might be skewing some of the stats.

I actually considered a non-governmental, community regulated currency as a pretty good idea.

Problem is, crypto is too ecologically expensive and wasteful to fit the bill.

While there were some interesting ones, that actually used the processing power for something useful, most are not. So for now, I'll just go with governmental currencies.

ulterno ,
@ulterno@lemmy.kde.social avatar

most governments would not be happy about it

How come?
Energy production companies would be happy no?
Shouldn't that make at least some govt. happy?

ulterno ,
@ulterno@lemmy.kde.social avatar

Oh there's other's? Guess I haven't read enough.

But how to they manage to be decentralised?

ulterno ,
@ulterno@lemmy.kde.social avatar

Interesting, but, giving it a quick scan, some of them look like based on personal trust and others feel kinda chicken/egg-ish.
And I may need to read it properly first, but "holdings" feels like you probably need to buy some of it first, presumably using some other currency.

Are you rustling a single leaf, for it to be less than a library?
Or does the library have a windy exterior full of trees with rustling leaves, for it to be at 40?

I don't see an ad in my graphics driver. Even update notifications are optional.
When I open steam, it is because I'm thinking of gaming and most often, I'm hoping for a game deal popup.

Though, I'd love to not require opening Steam when I just want to play a game.
And that's why I'm willing to forego regional pricing and pay almost 4x for GoG games, at least for games I feel like I will be playing for a long time.

ulterno ,
@ulterno@lemmy.kde.social avatar

When you choose a distro, you generally choose to follow what the maintainers give you as the "latest".
Or you get snap/flatpak/AppImage.

I, personally, would go with AppImage, probably because I once made some myself and liked them.

its four words

By the time you reach writing 4 words on Windows, you''l have enough mental exhaustion for it to be equivalent to a short story.

Arch is the easy way, when you compare it to Debian Sid.

ulterno ,
@ulterno@lemmy.kde.social avatar

After having to use Ubuntu at work for > 1 year, I find it hard to endure. But of course, maybe it was just the computers being slow, except for Debian KDE working perfectly well on them.

I can objectively state the contrary.

Maybe Boeing will learn from their mistakes and go for using their relatives as leverage or tarnishing their reputation by framing them with treason instead.

ulterno ,

On the contrary, it (the website) looks really nice.

The product, on the other hand, seems targeted towards "normies" and would probably do better in a place that doesn't have ppl already self hosting their stuff.

The name "Solarized" suggests otherwise.

#: I'm just going to write some memos in WPS Office and send it to the networked ftp server running on Binbos.
Oh and while I'm at it, I'll just ssh into a few other computers as root, using Nautilus (as root of course) and keep them all open until I shutdown, just because I want to copy their docx files.

Exercises using wrist strength actually help with those problems.
I haven't done climbing, but I do tend to include wrist related stuff in my routine.
e.g. nunchuck exercises are good for shoulders and wrists. Quarterstaff spinning has also been useful.

Users switched to Facebook instead

It's more like: those who couldn't be bothered to make and maintain their own site, went to normie platforms.

You still have stuff like http://geekring.net/

ulterno ,
@ulterno@lemmy.kde.social avatar

It's hard to enshittify FOSS as long as good enough people willing to contribute to de-shittify stuff exist, but that is not the main thing that "defines" any trend.

The layman that tends to use stuff that is marketed (which is unfortunately enough of the people) will be affected by for-profit orgs trying to set trends in their favour. That is what will turn out to "define" the terms.
Consider how Apple managed to keep their cult following for so long and how there are still enough people who consider "Windows" as the common name for Operating System. Even though the more technically minded people understand the differences, it doesn't change the fact that people's perception will be defined by what's more in front of them, until they individually realise their ignorance and decide to investigate.
