I generally listen to a classical music station, so I'm getting boss fight music

I don't get it why spend lots of money to have some fancy logo on a plain coloured shirt made by Chinese children, when you could get the same thing without the logo for under $10. I guess it's a status symbol

    How do constitutional alterations happen there? Is it by referendum like Australia (where everyone's opinion matters) or is it by some arbitrary majority in the houses of congress (where only the elite political class' opinion matters)?

    unionagainstdhmo ,
    @unionagainstdhmo@aussie.zone avatar

    So basically only the political and by extension the upper class get to decide the rules by which they play. Sounds really fair. FREEDOM!!!

    unionagainstdhmo ,
    @unionagainstdhmo@aussie.zone avatar

    Haha losers. Imagine not having some form of preferential voting. Catch up idiots

    unionagainstdhmo ,

    It's not like you can't do anything about it

    unionagainstdhmo ,

    I don't think US elections are terribly real either. You get whoever the Republicans want or you get whoever the Democrats want. If you don't want either of those and vote for someone else you risk your least preferred candidate winning. You don't get to decide who runs.

    I'm not saying I like Russia and China but you can't claim that their actions in anyway justify what the US does.

    Also just because this post is about the US it doesn't mean the other atrocities aren't happening. Do we have to mention what China and the US are doing whenever the Ukraine war is brought up? Seems like a bit of a silly argument really

    unionagainstdhmo ,
    @unionagainstdhmo@aussie.zone avatar

    How are you supposed to go an get your gun from the locked cabinet where I assume you keep it to prevent a psycho from stealing it and using it against you? Unless you keep it attached to you at all times risking a misfire or your attacker grabbing it and using it against you. What if you accidentally kill someone who was infact innocent when you think you're doing the right thing but you misjudged a situation? How do I know that you can be trusted with a firearm? What distinguishes you from a school shooter just by looking at you? If the US is so free why don't you fight back against the corrupt two-party system?

    unionagainstdhmo ,
    @unionagainstdhmo@aussie.zone avatar

    Do you like the two party system? Do you like the electoral college? Do you like the lack of accountability your politicians face? I'm assuming you must assuming you're a gun owner who hasn't tried to liberate the US

    Never really liked his channel but wasn't aware of this video until now. What a fuckwit. Has no idea what communism is but keeps saying it when he really means authoritarianism. Says that a gun is "great for children", I'm hoping he meant for children to use...

    I don't understand why I need to buy a gun to deal with downstream problems where there is an upstream solution. The reasons he gave for owning any gun are really societal issues. Instead of encouraging everyone to have a private army, why not encourage people to vote for politicians who will fix the upstream problems

    I fear games like Fortnite being introduced to very young children might conflate "weapons of war" and "toys"

    unionagainstdhmo ,
    @unionagainstdhmo@aussie.zone avatar

    Exactly the problem with a lot of these gun nuts - they can't use their brains because they don't have one.

    unionagainstdhmo OP ,
    @unionagainstdhmo@aussie.zone avatar

    Most of them do, I think the main achievement is getting the eGPU set up

    This router in particular had a socketed wifi card - like in laptops which is pci-e, they used an adapter to connect a graphics card to this (a Radeon HD thing (old)). If you can't watch the video the creator did an article on it as well which I've linked in the post body

    Nothing because you can't get punished for stealing land. (Age Of Empires III Definitive Edition)

    unionagainstdhmo ,
    @unionagainstdhmo@aussie.zone avatar

    Could be a matter of CUDA-specific optimisations in the software. Also, an iGPU will share ram with the CPU so while it looks good on paper, memory access and (availability) will vary

    unionagainstdhmo ,
    @unionagainstdhmo@aussie.zone avatar

    Not who you were talking to buy also have an 3050 Mobile.

    Runs things like Dolphin, Age Of Empires 2, 3 (definitive edition) and 4 great (had to hide igpu from aoe 4 because it thought it had 16gb vram). Never run them under X11 because I like the trackpad gestures in GNOME, but also have never had to.

    However, it should be noted that the NVIDIA card isn't really interacting with Wayland as desktop rendering is handled by the igpu in hybrid laptops (unless explicitly set). On my PC with a Quadro M2000 on driver 545 there is alot of flickering in Xwayland apps on Wayland so I use X11 there. Someone from NVIDIA actually submitted something to fix th flickering but it hasn't been incorporated yet, don't know if it ever will. NVIDIA should just fix it in their drivers (which hopefully 550 does).

    That's really weird. What kind of hardware have you got?

    unionagainstdhmo ,
    @unionagainstdhmo@aussie.zone avatar
    1. You can’t easily define what apps start with startup

    https://aussie.zone/pictrs/image/f8537785-ff20-4bd4-8952-27893b4867f8.png

    For point 2, that is true and improving. Always do some research about program compatibility before completely changing your computer's OS.

    For point 3. Programs are generally installed in /usr/bin and ~/.var/app for Flatpaks (analogous to MS Store). Much easier than finding where MS store apps are installed.

    Never come across point 4, so I can't dismiss it.

    1. As with 2, depends on your usecase

    2. GNOME Disk manager (comes with Fedora and Ubuntu) has options to mount drives to arbitrary locations if needed.

    I understand your argument but making points like these don't really contribute to the discussion.

    Industry Standard software is just a fancy way of saying "Monopoly"

    unionagainstdhmo ,
    @unionagainstdhmo@aussie.zone avatar

    That is odd. I've been using NVIDIA and haven't really had any issues apart from just installing the proprietary driver through the package manager. People like to make out that NVIDIA is really bad on Linux, but lately it's been pretty good. My Quadro ~10 year old Quadro M2000 is still supported by the latest driver. Same cannot be said for more recent AMD APUs (looking at you Vega 10).

    Maybe next time you try Linux try Fedora since it has more recent drivers, etc. Just make sure you follow the instructions to install the NVIDIA proprietary drivers from RPMFusion. https://rpmfusion.org/Howto/NVIDIA

    Otherwise PopOS is apparently good since it bundles the NVIDIA driver with the iso. It's just been a bit buggy in my experience.

    This f*cking sucks. I hope they don't bring this to Australia, I want to make my native app a web app to save money so I don't have to pay their bullshit fees and own their shit computers

    I wish we were doing that here too. Hopefully when we do we'll take some learnings based on Europe's experience.

    Given that most of these projects are on GitHub, why not use the new GitHub discussions feature. MonoGame are ditching their forum in favour of it, because it's cheaper (free) and easier to maintain. Though they still have a discord for chatting about game development and progress on their games.

    Discord has recently introduced a forum-like thing but it's not indexable by search engines and the built in search only works if you get the exact title. Basically rubbish.

    If you're on GNOME the drive will show up in the "Other Locations" option in files or it might show up on the side. If its not probably a driver issue, though I've never had such an issue when using sane distro choices like Fedora, Ubuntu and Debian

    As an aside, damn these window screenshots from GNOME look awesome with the shadows

    unionagainstdhmo ,
    @unionagainstdhmo@aussie.zone avatar

    They recently introduced a package manager called winget. I'm not sure how many people actually use it however, and it is very much a power user tool

    unionagainstdhmo ,
    @unionagainstdhmo@aussie.zone avatar

    It is possible for rpms and Deb packages to contain repos in them, see the vscode packages, it's just a matter of how developers choose to distribute their software. This is getting alot better with things like Flatpak, Snap and to a lesser extent AppImages
