CS lecturers aren't necessarily good programmers. If people workong at big tech companies would do this in their spare time, now that would be fantastic.
hey I know you're working 40 hours a week but how about you work 40 more hours a week but for free?
Hell I firmly believe that there are no developers who write their best code at the end of the week. 30 hours of coding a week should be a hard limit at companies.
I only have about 8 hours of meetings a week and that's as a staff eng. Sounds like your place needs to drop a buncha meetings. Lemme guess: your managers have never been engineers before?
Chrome doesn't "leak" your data to Google, it intentionally sends it directly to them. That's like saying my toilet "leaks" human waste into the sewage system.
It’s rather interesting here that the board, consisting of a fairly strong scientific presence, and not so much a commercial one, is getting such hate.
People are quick to jump on for profit companies that do everything in their power to earn a buck. Well, here you have a company that fires their CEO for going too much in the direction of earning money.
Yet every one is all up in arms over it. We can’t have the cake and eat it folks.
It's my opinion that every single person in the upper levels is this organization is a maniac. They are all a bunch of so-called "rationalist" tech-right AnCaps that justify their immense incomes through the lens of Effective Altruism, the same ideology that Sam Bankman-fried used to justify his theft of billions from his customers.
Anybody with the urge to pick a "side" here ought to think about taking a step back and reconsider; they are all bad people.
If you ever needed a lesson in the difference between power and authority, this is a good one.
The leaders of this coup read the rules and saw that they could use the board to remove Altman, they had the authority to make the move and “win” the game.
It seems that they, like many fools mistook authority for power. The “rules” said they could do it! Alas they did not have the power to execute the coup. All the rules in the world cannot make the organization follow you.
Power comes from people who grant it to you. Authority comes from paper. Authority is the guidelines for the use of power, without power, it is pointless.
Can you stop by me in 2012 when I bought up a bunch of Bitcoin and tell me not to waste it, hold onto it for a few years because it will make me a millionaire? Thx
I really do hope we have some women in the leadership of any revolutionary organizations that appear. All the best revolutionary books are by women, all the best feminist works are by women, all the best intersectional works are by women, the best analysis of settler-colonialism I’ve read is by women, hell, even the best liberatory science fiction I’ve read is by a woman. It’s time for men to step aside and elevate women. If you’re in a leadership position of an organization and you’re a man, your primary goal should be to find and elevate women to replace you.
Women should be encouraged to do whatever their heart desires, yes. But actively calling one gender better than the other and trying to "replace" people because of their gender doesn't seem like a good idea to me.
Astrox Imperium (this is a single player version of EvE Online, so definitely not for everyone)
Dyson Sphere Program
Factorio
UFO:AI (admittedly this is a FOSS XCOM game that started as a clone of XCOM Apocalypse, and morphed into something bigger)
All developed by either a single person, or tiny teams with basically no start up capital. I'm sure I can find more, since the FOSS list of games is enormous.
Labor develops society. Capital enshittifies society.
The phone in the picture has a home button, therefore it cannot be the iPhone 12. Furthermore, the article you pointed to is about india. Still, even though the phone has a home button, I'm inclined to believe that it is not an iPhone.
