Hey, that's awesome! Also, thanks for the warning on that second link. It's always good to look out for others who don't know any better.

It likely could, but it's not trivial to implement.

@01189998819991197253@infosec.pub avatar

Fair point. Blockchain might be the quickest to implement just because the infrastructure is already established, even if it's not trivial. Not sure, though.

I'm not a fan of automated data collection, regardless of the reason. I see the merit, though, but I won't allow it. The post is very clear about the preserved anonymity of the collected data, which is good, and on how to easily opt out, which is great.

This statement, however, was a bit strange. Almost like they are being flippant on local laws. Since I know this isn't the case here, they should have phrased it different. (Emphasis mine)

Your search activities are handled with the same level of confidentiality as all other data regardless of any local laws surrounding certain health services.

@01189998819991197253@infosec.pub avatar

That's what I also understood. It's just an odd, almost incorrect, phrasing. Unless our understanding is wrong, and they actually mean that they won't follow the local laws if said laws require them to violate privacy.

“affected by the price hike will be able to call up to change their plans to newer T-Mobile offerings, but they won’t be able to opt out of this increase.”

I'm pretty they can opt out of the price hikes with a little effort.

Not a fan of (in this context) how Google handles their products. They have a history of killing a product or degrading it to oblivion. There's even a dedicated site for this. I just don't trust them to keep this going, so I never went to them. Plus, other MVNOs, like Tello, have unlimited plans on the tmo network for $25. The same plan on gfi is $50.

01189998819991197253 ,
@01189998819991197253@infosec.pub avatar

...but, until they do, you're enjoying it. I get it, and I completely support you (not that it matters that some internet stranger supports you, but they do). There are definitely cheaper options out there, but if gfi works for you and you're happy with it, then more power to you, and I hope the service lasts forever.

Search engine advertisements have become a massive problem over the past couple of years, with numerous threat actors utilizing them to push malware and phishing sites.

It's a good thing that Google is fighting so hard to block the use of adblockers, since the shareholders' profits are so much more important than the safety of everyone else.

Not sure how long it's been since your last org, but a lot has changed in the Teams universe as of late (and mostly not for the better).

But then Microsoft can't say that people are opting to move from Teams to New Teams, and show how amazing the people think New Teams is. I don't know if that's why they're doing it that way, but it feels like that.

The point is to elicit positive emotions and associate them with a brand.

Then don't interrupt my movie or my pause time, and I won't be pissed at you, then have a seemingly irrational anger-hate when I see you at the store, and refuse to purchase you. There are so many products I won't buy because of this.

... I'm debating whether to take up my "special occasion" pitchfork or my "pokabitch" pitchfork. The first is for normal rallies, and the latter is for serious events. I'm leaning towards the latter. Which one are you bringing?

Basically, they like to drink wine.

No. I'm kidding. WINE stands for WINE Is Not an Emulator, and it allows you to run Windows applications on a Linux machine. It's far from perfect, but it can be a lifesaver when switching from Windows to Linux. What user melpomenesclevage is trying to say, is that you can use WINE to significantly blunt the blow / daily usability learning curve when switching, to keep some of your familiar applications as is.

Edit: here's their site https://www.winehq.org/ the also explain it much better than I.

@01189998819991197253@infosec.pub avatar

Not really an emulator, though the end result is similar. WINE translates the instructions sent between the OS and software to languages each other understands. It's like a Babel Fish for Windows programs and the Linux OS.

Court Bans Use of 'AI-Enhanced' Video Evidence Because That's Not How AI Works (gizmodo.com)

A judge in Washington state has blocked video evidence that’s been “AI-enhanced” from being submitted in a triple murder trial. And that’s a good thing, given the fact that too many people seem to think applying an AI filter can give them access to secret visual data.

Finally deleted my LinkedIn account!

After putting my account into "hibernation" for the past few weeks, I finally closed it. But I'm still looking for work. Thankfully I can still find positions (SRE and software dev) by just going directly to the company's site and finding a Jobs page.

Good luck to everyone else out there looking for work!

Google Allows Creditors to Brick Your Phone (lemmy.world)

I installed NetGuard about a month ago and blocked all internet to apps, unless they're on a whitelist. No notifications from this particular system app (that can't be disabled) until recently when it started making internet connection requests to google servers. @01189998819991197253@infosec.pub avatar

I think a better analogy would be, "a building has many exits available, but only 2 emergency exits. During an emergency, you 'must' use the emergency exits... But do you really?"

If the USA population decided to ignore the democrats or republicans, as a whole, and focus their votes on one of the remaining four parties, then you lot would see a different party being elected. Easier said than done. I know. And I'm not blaming any of the USA voting population for this dichotomy.
