Why would Firefox be difficult to use?

Hawk ,

I still don't see how that makes Firefox difficult.

The transition might be difficult, but I rarely see casual people use the options you describe.

It's as easy as opening the shortcut and start browsing, I see no difference with Chrome there

Hawk ,

Pretty much everyone here agrees that it's a shitty concept. Doesn't solve anything and it's a privacy nightmare.

Hawk ,

Qwant uses their own index, but supplements it with Bing if they don't have enough info (or for images).

Hawk ,

I think you are a bit confused about the E-mail structure.

Everything behind the @ is the domain, on your case "domain.com"
Before the @ is just a name that can be used as you, the domain owner, wants.

If you want to redirect all mail to yourname@domain.com, that's very easy to do AND you can still see the original e-mail address these nails were sent to.

So I assume for example Dropbox sent some commercial mail about current offers. Using that, he knew the old account and that it was signed up to Dropbox

Hawk ,

It's from an Apple commercial, which was an allusion to 1984

Hawk ,

Kagi is great, but I just can't miss $5 a month for it.

I'm using Qwant now and it's pretty good.

Hawk ,

Not videogames, but the idea that a car should also be a video game console sounds very childish.

Hawk ,

The wheel is just there during the testing phase as a backup, seems the final pods don't have it, as it would make the idea useless.

Hawk ,

Old railway lines in Europe often aren't complete anymore and only cover relatively small distances.

There simply isn't enough infrastructure to handle a full train network and fixing them up would probably require existing infrastructure and buildings to be disowned and destroyed.

Hawk ,

Ah yes, libraries. Those mega buildings with every book on Earth inside...

Hawk ,

I don't think about the price, It's about reselling something you got at a charity.

Plenty of stores sell cheap, used stuff that everyone can fit in their budgets. More and more of these resellers are picking the stores clean, leaving a lot less available for those who "need" it.

Hawk ,

Well, not according to these organisations, like Oxfam here who boast about the ecological and social aspect of second hand products.

Clearly you have no idea what these organisations do or stand for?

Hawk ,

Mmh seems like a different type. They always get in the way for me and don't lock into place. Haven't encountered those types yet

Hawk ,

They didn't even change the moulds. The caps are exactly the same in many cases, except they're not cut the entire way around.

Seems a few bottles have better design, but I have not seen those myself.

Hawk ,

This is a newer function though, wasn't always available

Hawk ,

The implant is already malfunctioning after a few months. Makes you wonder how many more of these threads will retract over the next following months.

Hawk ,

It was Interpol that made the request on behalf of the Spanish police according to the article.

Hawk ,

If the product was as they marketed and sold it, it shouldn't be able to run on Android.

Clearly they lied to their customers, I'd be pissed.

Hawk ,

I'm kinda assuming it's a reference to It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia

Hawk ,

Everyone knows DAB+ is where it's at these days

I made wanderer - a self-hosted trail and GPS track database (lemmy.world)

Over the last two months, I developed wanderer. It is a self-hosted alternative to sites like alltrails.com or in other words a self-hosted trail database. It started out more as a small hobby project to teach myself some new technologies but in the end, I decided to develop it into a fully-fledged application....

Hawk ,

To plan, organize or review routes.

This seems more like Garmin Basecamp, it's not supposed to be used on the routes themselves I'm guessing.

Hawk ,

Love it.

I've been willing to learn more about programming with location/map data so definitely checking this out.

Are you looking for contributions or help on anything?
I think I might at least look at providing a Dutch translation for the front-end if you're accepting PRs.

Hawk ,

Windows gets in the news almost daily with new ways they made their product worse. Of course people are shitting on them, it's still as relevant as years ago.

Hawk ,

What you're giving as examples are legitimate uses for the data.

If I write and sell a new book that's just Harry Potter with names and terms switched around, I'll definitely get in trouble.

The problem is that the data CAN be used for stuff that violates copyright. And because of the nature of AI, it's not even always clear to the user.

AI can basically throw out a Harry Potter clone without you knowing because it's trained on that data, and that's a huge problem.

Hawk ,

It's a simplified version of ABV that the UK invented to easier track alcohol consumption

Hawk ,

Forks are meaningless.

Unless a team steps up to continue development, the project is as good as dead.

Hawk ,

Have to? Been playing on Linux for years, haven't had many issues so far.

Hawk ,

There's doubt about that 1913 temperature being reliable.
More likely the 130°F in July 2021 is the actual record.

Also, what's remarkable is not the record high temperature, but the fact that these temperatures are consistently returning each year.

Not even Death Valley is spared by global warming.

This is about Swift trying to take down the guy aggregating PUBLIC flight data because it inconveniences her.

What can you get to within a 15-minute walk of your house?

A recent YouGov survey asked Americans what they think they should be able to get to within a 15-minute walk of their house.

Of these choices, I can currently walk to all of them from my apartment, aside from a university (no biggie, I'm not currently studying, although there is a Tafe within walking distance), a hospital, and a sports arena.

How many can you get to with a 15 minute walk from your house?

@fuck_cars

Hawk ,

Not even sure why a gas station is included here.

Hawk ,

I did a few searches but had terrible results.

Searching for "Tokyo", I got a summary about some Indonesian food chain. I had to scroll down quite a bit to get info about the city.

It looks interesting, but seems far from ready.

Hawk ,

Won't even compile in languages like Go though

Hawk ,

I wonder if it's the diversification within the Chromium user space.

There are a ton of browsers based on Chromium each with their own little gimmick.

On the other side there's basically just Firefox.

From a casual point of view, I don't think there's much reason to go for Firefox. It doesn't really stand out from that point of view.

Hawk ,

They only took the digital copy though. Shitty move, but you still have a copy.

Hawk ,

I think many didn't read the article. The only way to get a Funimation digital copy was by using a code that came with the physical copy.

Even if they're taking away the digital copy, you still have the physical one.

Hawk ,

No, this is exported by Greenland.

They're using only chunks that have already separated, transporting it on outgoing cargo ships that are already empty and it becomes one of the few export products for Greenland.

Weird idea, but there are a few redeeming points if you look at the full story.

Hawk ,

Wouldn't that be a huge privacy issue?

Hawk ,

Corporations would be delighted to analyze all this footage.

Hawk ,

So you're PAYING for the vulnerabilities this time?
