IMO, if it's not trained on images of real people, it only becomes unethical to have it generate images of real people. At that point, it wouldn't be any different than a human drawing a pornographic image and drawings do not exploit anyone.

I see a lot of younger people wondering why so many people my age liked this or that and it helps to have it in context. Like "what's so great about half life? Every shooter ever is like that!" Ah, but you see, my young friend, that's now. Everything is like Half Life because Half Life changed the landscape. Not really gatekeeping, but you do lose a lot of what made a thing special if you're only looking at it without the historical context.

This made me think about how I missed out going through the Panama canal when I was working on a cruise ship, because I got hurt and had to go home when we made port in NYC before the ship went on to go down there and through the canal on its way to Hawaii. 😥

They pay a subscription for this... Home Depot and Lowes have similar programs that only require a deposit when you borrow the tool, which is refunded when you return the tool. And it's not even a super expensive deposit. But it is only tools.

Rent-a-Center is still a better service, since you could eventually own the thing.

The idea is nice, but the cost is ridiculous.

It only cost me $50, which I got back, to rent a table saw for a day. The big machines, like a backhoe, are expensive. The smaller tools ain't shit; most are under $50 for a day.

In the situation I'm talking about, you could simply choose to argue for the correct side (as most did). You're usually given a choice between 2 options. Or at least, I was in high school, and to be fair my school sucked. I saw the exercise like a game and I was picking hard difficulty. I didn't actually believe in the position I took. It was just more interesting to argue for.

None of my displays support this kind of HDR so some games (mostly those with no way of turning it off) end up darker than they would if I had a display that supported it. Haven't had other media do this though.

All that I see being "new" with LLM regurgitated garbage is that they call the system doing it an AI and not just a spam bot. Even back in the day, randomly entering words and adding ".com" to the end would result in either: a legitimate website, a porn site, a 404 error, or a page filled with random text like an AI generated article that wasn't hard to determine was made by a computer and not a real human either there to popup when searching literally any words and trying to generate traffic for ads, or as a placeholder for the domain name.

Now that it's harder to tell it's randomly generated vs human generated, even the "legitimate" websites are using it.

What about custom ROMs like Lineage? The only thing holding it back from working on every phone is that many phones have blocks to prevent installing a custom ROM in the first place. Could be just like windows in that it has every driver for every piece of hardware in the package, just bloating it unnecessarily.
