It’s interesting to see Torvalds emerge as a kind of based tech hero.

It's just that almost everyone else that could do it ended up being fucking ghouls of people.

Torvalds can be... brusque, sure. But he doesn't support child labor, he doesn't cheat on his wife, and he isn't some crazy cult leader waging a war against workers' rights.

Ledivin ,

lol. I'm old enough to have worked with SVN (and many others) as part of my day job, and I promise you that 99% of git users use literally the same exact workflow as they did/would have under any other VCS. Git's fine, but it's neither revolutionary nor important from a user's perspective.

The only outrage I see is in your comment 🙄

Ledivin ,

Hell, it's not even "breaking even" - making the same amount of money as last year is considered a failure, even if that number is astronomical.

Ledivin ,

Nah, this is a stupid internet shit-take.

Amazon support was actually great when they first started, and has just slowly slid downhill ever since. They had to start strong, because nobody really trusted online shopping yet. People forget that before Amazon was a handful of sketchy one-off websites and mail-in orders.

Ledivin ,

I left over the past year 🤷‍♂️ I imagine more and more will do so as the service continues to slide further to shit

Ledivin ,

What are the problems with Razer? I've only used their mice, so I honestly don't even know what else they make

Ledivin ,

NZXT just started expanding on making components, and has really feature stuff. One to watch, though higher-end.

NZXT has always been some really mediocre stuff at ridiculous markup, I don't have literally any faith in this statement

Ledivin ,

I've been using the same DeathAdder for like 10 years 😅 what are you doing to these poor mice

Ledivin ,

It's Facebook... They're 100% going the Windows route so that you can't turn off all of the data collection that will go straight to them.

Ledivin ,

Idk, you're running the risk of brown backfiring if cats are dicks or don't have anything interesting to say. Purple gives you a potential income stream, at least

Google Allows Creditors to Brick Your Phone (lemmy.world)

I installed NetGuard about a month ago and blocked all internet to apps, unless they're on a whitelist. No notifications from this particular system app (that can't be disabled) until recently when it started making internet connection requests to google servers. Does anyone know when this became a thing?...

Ledivin ,

Of course, it was a lie since it's still on Play Store an of today and in use.

FWIW, I just searched it up and it's listed as unavailable in my region (USA) 🤷‍♂️ so at the very least, they scoped it down a little bit

Ledivin ,

If you don't have strong opinions one way or the other, then docker is the easy answer. Way, way more widespread, which generally tends to mean better docs, more guides and examples, more tooling and open-source support...

Ledivin ,

We received no response from either party, while The WaPo was told by TMTG that "We heard Trump and Musk were actually discussing buying the Washington Post but they decided it had no value."

lol... Bezos already has - and, unlike Musk, continues to generate - effectively infinite money. Why on earth would he sell WaPo?

Ledivin ,

This was clearly a scam from the start. AI art is a tool, just like a paintbrush - if you don't know what you're doing (or if you just dont give a fuck, like this event), the outcome will understandably be shit.

Ledivin ,

Or just not storing your key where it can be repeated 🤪 this attack is 100% mitigated by some distance or just fuckin' aluminum foil.

Ledivin ,

With moves like that, I'm guessing that they've never been even close to being in the black.
