How dare you! China doesn't copy, it just takes others' ideas and improve them! sometimes.

On the bright side, it's Chinese hard/software, so an ED-209 outcome is very probable, and highly anticipated.

Why should we? What's in it for us?

Oh but I'm not saying this out of selfishness, the problem for me is not the cancer cure in itself, but who is doing the research..

  • the experiments on monkeys were questionable in method and nature, and led to death and madness;
  • the other chip installed in a human has already lost the majority of connection wires;
    and not to forget, it's not been specified how the public giving the ideas, would benefit from it. Musk is not exactly known as the phylanthropic kind.

Also failed to understand that those are ad spam posts, so they're not from&for Lemmy operators, but sketchy medicines sellers, etc.

Changed my phone last December.. increasingly glad it wasn't a Samsung.

SharkAttak ,
@SharkAttak@kbin.social avatar

Motorola G73. Fits well with my needs (no mobile gaming, not a lot of social media), good battery, great screen even if it's not amoled. Got it under 200€, a good deal IMO. Little regrets learning, afterward, that Motorola now is Lenovo and is supposedly hard to root/change rom, will have to research.

Energy saving tip: you can turn off pool water heating in the summer.

Disqualified.

Why?

Samsung Requires Independent Repair Shops to Share Customer Data, Snitch on People Who Use Aftermarket Parts, Leaked Contract Shows (www.404media.co)

In exchange for selling them repair parts, Samsung requires independent repair shops to give Samsung the name, contact information, phone identifier, and customer complaint details of everyone who gets their phone repaired at these shops, according to a contract obtained by 404 Media. Stunningly, it also requires these nominally...

An acquaintance yesterday showed me that she bought a new phone, a Samsung S24 plus(?).. the reason? "To take good photos", and that it takes way less space than a real, proper camera. I'd never pay that much for a phone, and I think she could do amazing photos even with "lesser" phones, but alas.

EA wants to place in-game ads in its full-price AAA games, again (www.techspot.com)

EA has tried this before, with predictable results. In 2020, EA Sports UFC 4 included full-screen ads for the Amazon Prime series The Boys that would appear during 'Replay' moments. These were absent from the game when it launched, with EA introducing the ads about a month later, thereby preventing them from being highlighted in...

What's stopping you from using Ecosia? Your searches could plant trees! (www.ecosia.org)

Ecosia is a search engine that aggregates search results from multiple other search engines. The ad revenue from our searches funds the planting of trees worldwide. With over 200 million trees planted so far, Ecosia have learned to be fully transparent about their projects, and financials which are available right on that...

Ok, new strategy: go back to 4:3.

SharkAttak ,

Uh.. I don't know if it sounded snarky, but mine was a joke. "If the extra space of 16:9 is going to be occupied by ads, better go back to 4:3 aspect ratio."

We'll go full circle and return to site directories.

SharkAttak ,

Yes but if they want an AI to index it, first it would have to figure out what an index is ;-)

SharkAttak ,
@SharkAttak@kbin.social avatar

I'm still to be convinced that all these AIs aren't just very good chat bots, they can line up words (or pixels) in a realistic way, but I feel there's no reasoning behind them.
A lot of people, and not just commoners, see "AI" and think "sci-fi robot!"

Atlas shrugged: "I don't get it, I don't care".

Tech brands are forcing AI into your gadgets—whether you asked for it or not (arstechnica.com)

Earlier this year, Microsoft added a new key to Windows keyboards for the first time since 1994. Before the news dropped, your mind might’ve raced with the possibilities and potential usefulness of a new addition. However, the button ended up being a Copilot launcher button that doesn’t even work in an innovative way....

Roku has patented a way to show ads over anything you plug into your TV (arstechnica.com)

A patent application from the company spotted by Lowpass describes a system for displaying ads over any device connected over HDMI, a list that could include cable boxes, game consoles, DVD or Blu-ray players, PCs, or even other video streaming devices. Roku filed for the patent in August 2023 and it was published in November...
