ShepherdPie ,

duped unsuspecting parents into bringing their kids to a truly dmsial event using clearly AI-generated marketing materials.

Said the AI generated article.

ShepherdPie ,

Racist against whom exactly?

ShepherdPie ,

The difference is intention. The intention of the sea lion is not to convince you that your claim is wrong or immoral; it's to shut you up, by draining your desire to make the claim, since every time that you do it, a sea lion pops up to annoy the shit out of you.

Hexbear in a nutshell.

ShepherdPie ,

But it's not about minorities and not about characteristics that people were born with and can't change (if they wanted to) about themselves.

ShepherdPie ,

I get your previous point about the language, but now you're just actively trying to spin this into something it isn't.

Like, should we really feel bad for cartoon sealions?

ShepherdPie ,

Now replace "sea lion" with "pedophile" or "murderer" and the comic remains the same still!

ShepherdPie ,

That's hilarious.

ShepherdPie , (edited )

I'd argue that most people would have a better idea of what 125TB looks like than knowing the size of a 4k movie file, let alone 14,000 of them. They can at least compare 125TB to their 500GB/1TB phone/computer storage.

ShepherdPie ,

You seem like you've handled quite a few double-sided disks in your day.

ShepherdPie ,

Streaming services definitely don't give you full quality files. They're compressed to save bandwidth. Netflix only uses about 7GB per hour in 4k. That's about the exact size of the higher quality 1080p movies I download.

Maker uses Raspberry Pi and AI to block noisy neighbor's music by hacking nearby Bluetooth speakers (www.tomshardware.com)

Maker uses Raspberry Pi and AI to block noisy neighbor's music by hacking nearby Bluetooth speakers::Roni Bandini is using a Raspberry Pi to power his AI-driven assault against his neighbor's regular 9am reggaeton music.

ShepherdPie ,

It is illegal just like wifi jammers or anything else that intentionally interferes with someone else's radio communications.

ShepherdPie ,

I have a neighbor 3 houses down that does this same shit with shitty rock music every single night from about 7pm to 6am. He's been talked to and had the police called on him multiple times but he doesn't give a shit and keeps doing it (going on maybe 2 years now) the guy directly across from him is even a state trooper and that hasn't made any impact either.

No, electric vehicle sales aren’t dropping. Here’s what’s really going on (www.cnn.com)

No, electric vehicle sales aren’t dropping. Here’s what’s really going on::Tesla has been slashing prices. Ford just cut the price of its Mustang Mach-E, too, plus it cut back production of its electric pickup. And General Motors is thinking about bringing back plug-in hybrids, arguably a step back from EVs.

ShepherdPie ,

It's because interest rates are 5x higher than they were a couple of years ago. Nobody wants to finance a $70k car at 8%.

ShepherdPie ,

I want a long range RWD Limited but apparently those are unicorn cars. The AWD only gets like 240 miles of range while the RWD is over 300.

ShepherdPie ,

Why would they pay more for a PHEV if they aren't going to use it? Even with credits the cost is still higher.

ShepherdPie ,

Just have it play an mp3 clip of that scene in the movie.

ShepherdPie ,

I think it was just more protecting against the one in a billion chance of interference that could potentially take down a plane full of people. Why risk it if the alternative is something as basic as tapping a setting on your phone during takeoff and landing?

ShepherdPie ,

I'm pretty sure the only companies that didn't include them as a standard feature until recently was Hyundai/Kia. Back in the 90s and 00s, Hondas were by far the number one stolen vehicle in the US and they had chipped keys.

ShepherdPie ,

Maybe domestic manufacturers but that's because they built terrible, disposable cars that nobody wanted.

ShepherdPie ,

Where's the evidence that this stuff is even happening at a high enough rate to even be noteworthy? It seems these articles come out every couple of years, always heavy on claims and light on facts, trying to drum up FUD based on almost nothing but chatter. Last time it was a single grainy night-time video of a couple cars in a driveway where you see the lights flash and theives open the car.

The article claims insurance rates are skyrocketing due to car theft, yet their own article from January they cite states that insurance rates have skyrocketed due to record high inflation.

The article claims police close these cases out in 24 hours which means they aren't even investigating the crimes to find out what happened. They also quote the police who stated that 'car crimes' are down 39% since 2010. Police aren't stating this is an issue.

They quote a couple manufacturers who have higher rates of stolen vehicles and all they state is that they take security seriously and are working on improvements. There's no admission or statement here that this is even occurring.

Finally the only remaining evidence is a paper written 12 years ago theorizing that this could be an issue. Hardly proof that it's currently occurring.

To me, it just sounds like people who've watched too many movies like Gone in 60 Seconds and don't understand technology very well who're screaming that the sky is falling.

A lot of Redditors hate the Reddit IPO | Reddit warned us that its users were a risk factor, and boy do they sound excited about shorting its stock.::Reddit seems like a likely candidate for a meme stock. But the actual reaction suggests that r/WallStreetBets isn’t going to send the stock to the moon.

ShepherdPie ,

It's equivalent to four quarter dollar bucks.

ShepherdPie ,

On top of that, I can't imagine why someone would even Google something like this outside of domestic violence related reasons. Are people really expecting to find out from google why their spouse is upset with them in a typical argument?

ShepherdPie ,

Yeah and?

ShepherdPie ,

That statistic didn't say anything about the perpetrator's gender. Stop trying to create controversy where there is none.

ShepherdPie ,

Literally nobody is arguing this. Jesus christ half the people commenting here are either insane, pushing some agenda, or incels

ShepherdPie ,

That hasn't happened at all.

ShepherdPie ,

Even still what can you expect out of some webpage probably written by AI or an author that doesn't even know you exist?

ShepherdPie ,

People have declared themselves feminists and stated that men should not receive access to domestic violence resources? You're being willfully delusional in order to paint yourself as a victim of some boogeyman.

ShepherdPie ,

I bet it's from people picking at it and the paint chipping off the sharp edge, but it does also look like the hole was drilled on a Friday afternoon by a guy who probably should have retired 10 years ago.

ShepherdPie ,

How is that clickbait? Calling income "a bonus" doesn't mean it isn't money being paid out by the company. When my company gives me shares, it's still income that I pay taxes on because it's something with a tangible value that can be easily converted into cash.

CEO salary being a small fraction of their total compensation is extremely common because wages are taxed higher than everything else. They structure it like this to avoid taxes. Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg were/are paid $1 per year base salary and they're two of the wealthiest people on the planet.

ShepherdPie ,

I can't wait to hear all the conspiracy theories and references to "Leave the World Behind."

ShepherdPie ,

500 can be a lot unless you're talking about one of these companies with 50,000 employees. If it's a smaller company, that means they're hiring over 4 new engineers a month over a 10 year period.

ShepherdPie ,

Do you really think they'd try to drive you out after giving you a raise to stay?

I think most of these companies as a whole are pretty evil, but your middle-managment boss or random HR rep is probably happy that you got more money out of the deal. They're a cog in the machine just like you.

ShepherdPie ,

In my experience, flash drives are way more reliable than SD cards and I'd put SSD and HDD above both of those.

I wish they'd just ditch the SD card on the Pi already as it's always the most likely reason why your stuff stops working. For my Pi running Home Assistant, I've swapped to an SDD as the boot drive. For the others, I still use SD cards but they're just doing basic stuff like running Klipper on my 3d printer or a (WIP) live photo frame that can be easily swapped with a replacement SD later.

ShepherdPie ,

Reliability in that I've used flash drives and SD cards for years but have only ever had issues with corrupt SD cards (probably at least half a dozen times) while I've never had any with flash drives.

Constant writes is an issue with them, which is why I think it's stupid that the Raspberry Pi Foundation continues to use them as the default storage/OS drive. Then again, they continue to make insane choices with power supplies as well, so it shouldn't be a big surprise.

Cybertruck engineer pushes back on claims that Tesla EVs rust in the rain — “It's surface contamination only and can be cleaned off easily.” (www.businessinsider.com)

Cybertruck engineer pushes back on claims that Tesla EVs rust in the rain — “It's surface contamination only and can be cleaned off easily.”::A Cybertruck engineer, Wes Morrill, addressed claims Tesla's truck rusts in the rain and said the specks of rust were the size of a "pinhead."

ShepherdPie ,

You don't polish stainless steel. That's something you do to correct paint.

ShepherdPie ,

Have you ever seen a rusty Cybertruck? All this talk is based off one single forum post from an owner who didn't even know what he was photographing.

ShepherdPie ,

Surface contamination from stuff getting on your car (like iron particles) while driving it.

ShepherdPie ,

Sycophants like you are the reason why Trump got elected.

ShepherdPie ,

Sure. Whenever Biden is criticized for lack of action and weak-ass attempts at making anything better, we're told "the president isn't a king and he actually doesn't have much power to do anything so you can't criticize him!" Whenever someone talks about voting third party it's "you're scum that supports facism. Voting third party is the same as voting Republican. If Trump gets reelected, he'll single handedly destroy the country and take away our freedoms and it'll be all your fault."

This is horseshit and neither party deserves to be in power in this country as neither one has done a god damned thing but milk us for our labor and wealth and keep us fed with bullshit to bicker over with each other.

The reason why Trump got elected, the supreme court got a 6-3 conservative majority, and things like Roe v Wade were overturned is because of people like Clinton and the Democratic leadership being so shitty that a reality TV host and known conman seemed more appealing to enough of the population. Continuing to vote the same way every election and expecting anything to change is absolutely insane.

With the Republican party being so vile, the only thing Democratic politicians need to do to keep your vote is just be marginally less evil and use the proper buzzwords and terminology to make you think they're on your side. They have absolutely zero incentive to rock the boat and actually fix anything because that might mean they can't retain power over at least 50% of the government at any given time.

ShepherdPie ,

Milquetoast liberals mean nothing will ever get better for trans people regardless of the side that wins and continuing to vote for either one of these parties just ensures both of them retain power and things stay the same for yet another election cycle. People are gunning down trans people and their allies in the streets right now. If Biden winning in 2020 didn't stop it, how does him winning in 2024 stop it?

ShepherdPie ,

Meanwhile numerous laws are passing banning conversion therapy, banning bathroom usage, banning birth certificate changes, banning public displays, banning books, and banning sports participation and you think this means things are getting better?

You just claimed we're potentially months away from people openly hunting trans people in the streets and you think that's better than how things were 15 years ago? Open your eyes.

ShepherdPie ,

If they will no matter what, then we citizens don't actually hold any power in elections, and things will continue on this path forever. Picking "evil" over "greater evil" doesn't accomplish anything but maintaining the status quo.

ShepherdPie ,

Where did I say I won't vote against the anti-trans agenda? You seem to want to maintain the anti-trans agenda by keeping these two parties in power, which is why you completely glossed over my previous comment and continue to ignore the increased suffering this group of people is currently facing.

Burying your head in the sand by voting to keep things the same while scolding those who want change is quite the viewpoint to hold...

ShepherdPie ,

Hey, I just used your own words against you. You stated we're on the cusp of people being hunted in the streets while also claiming that things are better for these people than they were in the past.

ShepherdPie ,

christofascists who will be gunning trans people and their allies down in the street like rabid dogs.

things have gotten better for trans people

No, you didn't use my words against me. You used the words you wanted me to say against me.

🙄

ShepherdPie ,

Meaning we have no real power with our vote as we have no choice.

ShepherdPie ,

Good luck. This stuff infects every technology related group I've seen here and on reddit.
