Sunfoil ,

It has an endorphin release and people get addicted.

Sunfoil ,

Windows 10 AME Wizard, get AtlasOS or whatever takes your fancy. Otherwise Linux Mint.

Sunfoil ,

They do. I boycott Chinese made goods, and I don't make much money. It just requires a small amount of introspection on if I need the item. It has actually turned out I buy much much less because what I do buy is of quality and lasts.

Cosmetics, Household goods and food are easy and generally fairly locally made and produced, unless you insist on buying exotic fruits or stuff way out of season.

Clothes, shoes, anything fabric, again easy. Massive market of quality eco-friendly EU/US/UK made stuff that means I pay $30 for a lovely shirt that will last me decades than $5 a shirt that was made by a child in Myanmar and fall apart within the year. So I am slowly developing a modest wardrobe of high quality natural fibres.

You don't really need much else. But it just takes a moment to Google and consume conscientiously.

Some stuff is nearly impossible and is actually outside of your control like fuel and SOME electrical devices. But nothing can be perfect.

Sunfoil ,

In the United States.

Sunfoil ,

In the UK, the RSPB determines no negative impacts on bird populations. And the ecosystem is irrecoverably damaged from 3000 years of human impact on a relatively small island. Unlike new colonies like NZ, USA etc.

Sunfoil ,

That's not what I'm saying. Not only the USA. Other places where domestic cats are very new, like USA, NZ, etc also probably shouldn't do outdoor cats.

Sunfoil ,

The wildcats are in Northern Scotland. I'd be OK with the Scots banning outdoor cats.

Foxes like bins, they don't fight back.

I've seen maybe 1 domestic cat hit by a car, I've seen hundreds of hedgehogs, foxes, badgers and deer. That's not an outdoor cat problem.

It's easy to sit on a moral high horse about a country you don't really know anything about. We didn't come to this land 300 years ago. The concept of an intact ecosystem vanished about 1000 years ago. It is a completely different island. The best we can do is keep the last of our wild species ticking over.

Unlike the Americans, who exploited and continue to exploit one of the most beautiful lands in the world, when they should have known better.

Sunfoil ,

Okie doke. You're clearly very angry about cats, so much so you managed to miss every point I made, good job.

Sunfoil ,

Most real peppers DO do this stuff.

Sunfoil ,

Haha fair enough.

Sunfoil ,

No. I didn't say you weren't a prepper unless you did specific things. Some peppers do just fill a cabinet with guns and call it a day. But seeing as how much of a prepper someone is completely due to how prepared they are, the ones with seeds, animal husbandry skills, water management, air filtration, renewables, are obviously more of a prepper than man with lots of ammunition.

Sunfoil ,

There isn't anything inherently wrong with having a properly built bunker with all the food and stuff you need.

I agree there are a lot of right wing nutjobs with more guns than gardening tools, but you're being pretty uncharitable to a very broad hobby that includes just as many hippies and leftish people ready to help their local communities.

Preparedness is something everyone should have, so that when the store shelves empty at the start of the pandemic, no one is concerned about their lack of toilet paper or feeding their kids.

Sunfoil ,

Wow really? What do you find annoying about him?

Sunfoil ,

Wild. I always thought he seemed fine. Pretty self-aware and just Canadian.

Field Marshal Charles III, King of the United Kingdom and the 14 realms, Lord of Mann, Master of the Arts, defender of the faith, Admiral of the Fleet, is what his friends call him.

Women STEM students up to twice as likely as non-STEM students to have experienced sexism (www.hepi.ac.uk)

We know that women students and staff remain underrepresented in Higher Education STEM disciplines. Even in subjects where equivalent numbers of men and women participate, however, many women are still disadvantaged by everyday sexism. Our recent research found that women who study STEM subjects at undergraduate level in England...

Sunfoil ,

They probably haven't. My experience was a lot of these guys were on the spectrum and the only social understanding of women they have is media. I would say the sexism is very malicious from the faculty, but from fellow students a lot of them this is the first time they've been allowed away from their helicopter parents and to begin learning social skills, sadly at your detriment.

Sunfoil ,

Why would I pay YouTube that when I can give it directly to the creators though. I'll just adblock and not put money in the hands of Google, while helping the creators more.

Sunfoil ,

Yep

Sunfoil ,

YouTube is far from the only video hosting site, and far from the only way to do it. Peertube, Vimeo, Patreon, Floatplane, Nebula, bitchute to name some examples of sites already set up, with monetisation, with youtube creators actively posting on them. Twitch rivals like Kick and Rumble could also absolutely pivot into taking YTs market share too

Sunfoil ,

No, that's the idea. But that's also why we see very little eco terrorism. No one can handle losing what we have. Even if it is necessary.

Sunfoil ,

So you want to constantly be a slave to your consumerist impulses as you uncritically consume everything thrown at you, despite all the evidence that these companies can literally manipulate your perception of reality through targeted political advertising and echo chambers? Enjoy your terrifying dystopia, but at least you think you're getting a 'local deal' so who cares, right?

Sunfoil ,

You need to inform yourself about advertising. Go and look up Edward Bernays. You literally can't stop ads affecting you, except by eliminating them. You think you're being a critical consumer, but you're right where they want you.

Sunfoil ,

Yeah it was a land of peace with no unrest until the British came.

Sunfoil ,

Without electric VEHICLES* climate change cannot be addressed. Expensive new electric cars are not the solution. Electric public transport, retrofitting old vehicles, making current vehicles last, and people adopting two wheeled electric solutions will be the solution. Cars like Teslas are awful and buying one shouldn't be considered making a difference.

Sunfoil ,

The companies put the products in front of you, but the consumers made the decision to abandon domestically made goods.
