You're a new type of cyborg cop, that works for a new anti-terrorism unit to hunt down terrorists, formed after they bombed the twin towers. A global pandemic keeps the streets eerily quiet.

The game came out in 2000 btw.

alcoholicorn , (edited )

Yeah, I left out the spoilers and stuff that didn't actually happen.

There's a lot of what were open secrets in the 90s, like that the gov't was scanning internet traffic and phone calls, the existence of the NSA, the CIA blackmailing US politicians, that gets combined with wacky conspiracies in there, which leaves a bad taste.

alcoholicorn ,

TBF, for the last 30 years even Cyberpunk authors completely missed the point that capitalism will subvert these amazing technologies to make everything worse if we don't do something. Neal Stephenson is a crypto shill.

alcoholicorn ,

Oh what's this? Allegations by... 35 women?

God dammit.

alcoholicorn ,

For a middleschooler? Sure. For an adult trying to pursue a career as a painter? Nah. IDK if he didn't draw guide lines with a pencil before painting or what, but that's pretty bad on an entirely technical level.

alcoholicorn ,

Do you really believe that without hitler, the fascists wouldn't have found another leader?

alcoholicorn ,

Most mines become civilian peacetime landmines!

alcoholicorn ,

Web3 was dead on arrival; when your ecosystem is entirely wannabe digital landlords, you're not gonna get any content to actually attract users.

alcoholicorn ,

Not saying he should have been banned, but factually it was wrong, the FRG was mostly staffed by "former" Nazis. A lot of Germans saw it that way, see Baader-Meinhof.

Also it's disingenuous to call one of the biggest arms manufacturers who supplied arms to some of the worst regimes, Israel, Sudan, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Russia "pacifist".

alcoholicorn ,

The best part is that Hitler didn't win, Hindenburg won with 53% of the vote, and proceeded to staff all the positions of power with nazis, and then hand power over to Hitler.

The social democrats split from the communists and supported Hindenburg because "this is the most important election ever" and "we need unity and bipartisanship" type rhetoric.

Naturally that unity and bipartisanship meant working with the fascists against the communists.

The communists, ever cursed with Casandra Syndrome, ran on "A vote for Hindenburg is a vote for Hitler; a vote for Hitler is a vote for war."

Problem: A nuclear plant on the other side of the planet got hit by a tsunami

    ->

Solution: shut down all nuclear plants

    ->

3 new problems: You no longer have cheap electricity, the revitalized coal industry is doing massive environmental damage, you now depend on Russia.

They want a printer that doesn't require yellow ink to print black and white.

Please, for the love of God, VOTE! (pawb.social)

I don't like Biden either, but anyone with half a brain knows there are two choices in the 2020 election. If we had a sane voting system, voting third party might be worth it, but as it stands, no one but you knows your favorite candidate exists and unless you want to become their campaign manager that will still be true in...

    alcoholicorn , (edited )

Why are you trying to pressure people to vote for the guy facilitating genocide, instead of for Biden to stop facilitating genocide?

The only explanations I can come up with are either that you support what he is doing, or on some level, you understand we have no influence on policy and so trying to get Biden to do things that will get people to vote for him is a waste of time.

This same shit happened when Obama did fuckall about Bush's policies and endlessly compromised. Of course, the voters were blamed when Obama lost the house and senate, and in 2016 too.

    alcoholicorn ,

Israel is already getting all they want from the US, you really can't call a side participating in ethnic cleansing a lesser evil, we're already at 100% evil.

But this misses the point, to even be posting this shows that you have no hope that Biden will stop the genocide. If you expected the democrats to listen to the people whose votes they need, you'd be telling us he's gonna do the thing we all want and stop the genocide any day now, and begging the dems to not fuck this up.

    alcoholicorn ,

The christofascists's representatives fall over each other trying to show how christian and fascist they are, implement the policies the christofascists want by any means, and in return the christofacists vote for them.

The democrats either do fuckall or what the republicans want, and then tell us better things aren't possible or it's our fault for not voting harder.

Guess which one is a more effective electoral strategy?

    alcoholicorn ,

Yes, that is the justification most Americans use; western chauvinism tells them that no matter how bad they are, the other places are worse. How many times on Lemmy do you see people say "America bad, but China or Russia or Iran would be worse (therefore we're justified in facilitating massive bloodshed)?"

    alcoholicorn ,

It's used to justify bombing Yemen, support the genocide in Palestine, escalating the proxy war against Russia, and starting one against China.

You can get a social democrat to acknowledge that every conflict America has supported since WWII has made make the world worse, and they'll still insist that this time, it's different.

And half of lemmy are worse than that.

    alcoholicorn ,

The portions of Ukraine that Western Ukraine was shelling before the invasion.

The lines have hardly moved in a year, despite thousands more dead and millions more displaced. Every bomb we send is a bad day for someone, statistically mostly civilians. To send more bombs is to sacrifice more people, for the same geopolitical outcome.

    alcoholicorn ,

The guys trying to stop a genocide are the good guys. I do have some criticisms of them, but any actions that decrease the ability to carry out genocide is a net positive.

    alcoholicorn ,

You know what else is dangerous? Giving a genocidal state more weapons.

    What the fuck?

    alcoholicorn ,

    using fascist rhetoric is bad

There's no fascist rhetoric, we're all capable of understanding context.

    I support the Palestinians

What is your support of the Palestinians worth?

You are justifying actions against the people who are making a material impact at stopping a genocide. Even though those actions largely consist of bombing yemeni civilians, and wouldn't be justified anyway as they're being performed in service of a genocide.

    alcoholicorn ,

Apologies, I didn't notice that you weren't the original guy responded to, who was condemning the Houthi's actions.

In the context of the US, condemning the Houthi's anti-genocide actions is equivalent to supporting the genocide, in the same way that Americans and Israelis criticizing LGBT rights within Palestine or Iran or Russia; while the criticism may be valid within a vacuum, in the context of America, those criticisms only serve to justify imperialism.

how can something be so courageous and yet so true (slrpnk.net)

Edit: Jesus Christ, people. If you buy a $150 Thinkpad made by slave labor instead of a $1,200 MacBook made by slave labor, you're still supporting a capitalist economy based on slave labor. We all do. We have no choice. The number of smug liberals in the comments saying "well I buy a cheap used laptop" or "well I buy coffee...

They're politically unpopular, more expensive than fossil fuels, and most of them are prototypes.

India and China each have one. Russia has 3.

    alcoholicorn ,

Nah, they also depict Henry Kissinger that way, but we all know he's dragging what's left of his body across a minefield in hell.

    alcoholicorn ,

Capitalists trying to convince the public to privatize things has nothing to do with cost; even if they were free, every dollar saved by the public represents a potential profit they're losing.

Threads is automatically hiding comments that mention Pixelfed (mastodon.social)

For anyone wondering if Threads and Facebook at large will be a fine neighbor in the space and compatible with other apps/services in the fediverse: they’re already automatically hiding comments that mention Pixelfed https://mastodon.social/@dansup/112126250737482807

    alcoholicorn ,

The only thing that saved Meta/Web3 from creating a special hell where digital rent seeking pervades all social interaction is that capitalism is too advanced at this point to create a market before trying to squeeze every last drop of blood out of it.

    alcoholicorn ,

They accomplish the same thing as a train, while being more expensive, easier to kill via vendor lock, and more expensive to expand.

They do have a place similar to guided buses, when you need an elevated rail, but have too many hills for steel on steel.

    alcoholicorn ,

If I was standing next to a disposed dictator from possibly the most brutal modern empire who was not overthrown but instead given control over a massive amount of real estate and just let free to do whatever they want as a filthy rich person… I would protect my balls too you don’t know what someone unhinged like that is going to do and you KNOW there isn’t going to be consequences for them so more than anyone else in the world they have zero fear about going for a nut kick.

Are you implying the queen was trans?

    alcoholicorn ,

The joke was that your first paragraph could just as easily be describing Trump as the queen:

✅Deposed dictator of most brutal modern empire

    ✅Was not overthrown

✅Was given control over a massive amount of real estate

✅Free to do whatever they want as a filthy rich person

✅Could assault strangers genitals and face zero consequences

What a surprise, the Zionist pig bays for more Russian and Ukrainian blood.

    alcoholicorn ,

Every bomb sent to Ukraine is a bad day for someone, statistically mostly women and children. The purpose of diverting attention away from an actual genocide to the war in Ukraine is to encourage sending more bombs.

The only stance on Ukraine (and israel) that is not a call for more blood is a call to cut off all arms shipments and call for peace.

    alcoholicorn , (edited )

There is an actual genocide happening in Ukraine at the hands of Putin

No, there's not, hence why Israel manages to kill more children in individual strikes than Russia has in 2 years.

It is concerning that a german cannot identify a genocide.

he has the power to stop it at any time.

Neither of us live in Russia. Advocating your country's enemy unilaterally stop the war is not meaningfully different from advocating your country escalate the war. Even the most bloodthirsty hawk shares the position that the enemy should just give up.

But also the war has been going on for nearly a decade now. Eastern Ukraine was getting shelled right up until the day of the invasion. There would not be peace if Russia pulled out.

Can we agree that Russia should stay the duck out of Ukraine

No matter what sophistry you wrap this up in, you are advocating more Ukrainians and Russians get killed in a conflict that ultimately will end in the Russian-speaking parts of Ukraine joining Russia, no matter how many bombs are sent.

Once again, the only stance on Ukraine that is not a call for more blood is advocating all arms shipments are cut off and immediate peace.

    alcoholicorn ,

That Free Enterprise nullifies everything preceding it. Capitalism is incompatible with any meaningful democracy, liberty, or rights.

“It is difficult for me to imagine what "personal liberty" is enjoyed by an unemployed person, who goes about hungry, and cannot find employment.

Real liberty can exist only where exploitation has been abolished, where there is no oppression of some by others, where there is no unemployment and poverty, where a man is not haunted by the fear of being tomorrow deprived of work, of home and of bread. Only in such a society is real, and not paper, personal and every other liberty possible.”
