Chinese mining motherboard with any xeon cpu (because of abundance of PCI lanes in cpu) and 12x16gb nvidia p100 and nvlink bridges (p40 gives 24gb of vram but doesn't have nvlink capabilities and slower gddr5 memory, p100 have hbm memory on the contrary which is good for llm) and 8x64gb ddr4 ecc ram, if you buy gpus from ebay and other components such as motherboard, CPU, ram, and ssd from AliExpress it comes quite cheap

bruhduh ,
@bruhduh@lemmy.world avatar

Mining boards give about 1-2 pci lanes per gpu because there's a lot of gpus, also look up Nvidia mining gpus, they restricted to pcie x1 or/and x4 even if you put them into x16 slot

bruhduh ,
@bruhduh@lemmy.world avatar

Problem is, new i7/i9 top out at 24 pcie lanes so old xeons is still bang for the buck in homelab sector

True that, OP did Gabe dirty, Gabe tried selling Linux before it became mainstream

Archinstall script worked fine for me tho, it gives blank which you fill in and press enter, then installer will do it's job without you. p.s i love opensuse tubleweed tho, my top 3 distros is debian gentoo opensuse, gentoo also have gentooinstall script derived from archinstall one

While I used AMD since fx bulldozer and currently using laptop with Ryzen 7 5700u and really enjoying it, downfall of intel saddens me because they keeping the GPUs prices down, i mean, would AMD and Nvidia offer 16gb GPUs in 300$ price range if intel wouldn't bring a770 16gb for 300$ on the table first, p.s AMD always deserved first place and still deserves it now, while intel is good as catching up player which keeping the prices down

Apple Rosetta 2 technically recompiles code from x86 to arm too in jit and sometimes aot, also there's box86/64 open source project, only difference between example I've said and OP is recompilation actually saves all results and not just cache, another difficulty is in OS difference, he needs not just binary translate but have something akin to WINE too while he recompiles code

bruhduh ,
@bruhduh@lemmy.world avatar

Thanks for detailed reply, i understood everything except i don't understand how cosmopolitan filters syscalls because deferent OS have different syscalls, otherwise there wouldn't be need for WINE

Apple crushes creativity and its reputation in new iPad ad (www.theregister.com)

The ad itself depicted a mechanical crusher destroying artifacts of human creativity. A trumpet, guitar, sculpture, piano, drawing board, paints, a metronome, several analog cameras, a turntable, and hi-fi equipment were among the much-loved items yielding to the machine's unstoppable force.

Free market but only until someone overtakes us, then shun them to eliminate cheap merchandise so we can rig up the prices, did i understood that right?

bruhduh ,
@bruhduh@lemmy.world avatar

That just means asahi linux not gonna die and will be really long lived project because it have a clear purpose, well, it is if we try to have positive outlook on situation

bruhduh ,
@bruhduh@lemmy.world avatar

You'll be surprised once you'll see what living beings is consist of on micro and nano level

bruhduh ,
@bruhduh@lemmy.world avatar

Hell yeah brother!) tumbleweed ftw! P.S my top 3 distros is debian tumbleweed gentoo because of WIDE architecture support meaning you can launch it on almost ANY pc out there

bruhduh ,
@bruhduh@lemmy.world avatar

Go for tumbleweed, it's supporting wide range of architectures (including even powerpc so you can still use powerpc macs) and it's rolling release distro on top of that

bruhduh ,
@bruhduh@lemmy.world avatar

Yes

@bruhduh@lemmy.world avatar

I remember i had to go from xp to 7 back in the day because of their Frameworks such as directx and .net because new games/apps just didn't launched without new versions of them, i bet they'll repeat this once more to push everyone. edit: to Linux

Linux mint keyboard shortcuts mimic those of windows tho, Linux mint is the best choice for windows refugees, this is one of the things majority of Linux community is agree about. Edit: in Linux mint you also can change keyboard shortcuts with gui tools already pre installed

I'd like to interject for a moment. (lemmy.ml)

What you’re refering to as Windows, is in fact, GNU/Windows, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Windows. Windows is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another closed component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising...

iot version of windows using 4gb of ram on startup?!?! Oh fu... Looking at antix linux ram consumption and wiping sweat from forehead

Poco x3 pro 8/256, and it have 3.5 jack and microsd slot, i still using one, in fact I'm writing from it right now

bruhduh ,
@bruhduh@lemmy.world avatar

Why sigh tho) i always saying that obscure devices have the best peripheral support, no need to buy popular devices because they often skimp on peripherals and overpriced, be proud my man) you have good phone for good money after all

bruhduh ,
@bruhduh@lemmy.world avatar
bruhduh ,
@bruhduh@lemmy.world avatar

Even more, kernel source code is available and xda-developers community on device is active, unofficial support gonna be really long term, since 2 years of usage i just swapped battery on mine once, it's truly a long lived phone

bruhduh ,
@bruhduh@lemmy.world avatar

Problem is, there's shitton of content that needs to be archived and moved from YouTube, if YouTube stops to exist then all tutorials and teaching videos and all previously produced content will be gone, people want this content, so only true solution is somehow archive all YouTube videos and move them from YouTube, until it's done, YouTube will have monopoly, and it's bad situation we've found ourselves in

Yes, the only problem is storage, with development of bcachefs it could be possible to have raid6 and block level deduplication and transparent compression, because content would be archived by the community after all and common people like you and me can't build whole datacenters, but just homelabs from used PCs and secondhand server HDDs
