I started lemdro.id. Pretty cool domain name, right?

sometimes people don't want to live in the middle of nowhere forever. not many engineering jobs there. we all want economic mobility too

cole ,
@cole@lemdro.id avatar

I don't think you understand - I can live poor and destitute without a job in my hometown, or leave to find work somewhere else. This is the reality of many Americans in rural America.

This isn't a quest for "wealth", it's a quest for life

A) to go and earn any money
B) I actually pollute less in the place that I moved to since I don't have to drive a car

lol no, it's alpine based. basing something on Manjaro would be pretty dumb anyways, might as well go straight off Arch (especially dumb since neither have official ARM support which phones need)

hol up what kind of intern can afford to buy a Model 3?

cole ,
@cole@lemdro.id avatar

wtf is that bullshit. interning is basically required experience in some fields (engineering especially). companies will usually pay for your housing and food even

love fly.io

fun fact, lemdro.id is hosted entirely on fly.io

you're looking for "Instander"! I went on a quest for this myself awhile back

It’s No Surprise That “Skills-Based” Hiring Has Not Worked (www-forbes-com.cdn.ampproject.org)

This article outlines an opinion that organizations either tried skills based hiring and reverted to degree required hiring because it was warranted, or they didn't adapt their process in spite of executive vision....

to be fair, software engineers are a lot more design heavy than implementation. software developers are the "implementers" where software engineers generally focus on the bigger picture as well

cole ,
@cole@lemdro.id avatar

not based on arch. I've heard it's based on Debian though

I wonder if you can pay off loans by transferring the stock. Idk, just a thought

cole ,
@cole@lemdro.id avatar

I'm sorry... this is not true lol. You know what SpaceX is up to, right? At the least, but there are tons of interesting and innovative companies. I mean hell look at Stoke Space

@cole@lemdro.id avatar

for real. and starship is an awesome program

r2modman has a native Linux client as well and handles pretty much all unity games

cole ,
@cole@lemdro.id avatar

that's a fair opinion, but for some people they feel the same way about KDE (me). Gnome's workflow is killer for me, and I love the consistency in design and intent with everything.

I suppose not everybody just wants customizability

cole ,
@cole@lemdro.id avatar

apple wouldn't do that, they'd withdraw from the EU first

cole ,
@cole@lemdro.id avatar

you don't even need to root to spoof gps, you can just do that on android

cole ,
@cole@lemdro.id avatar

neurotypical people do this too lol. everyone is a bit different. although I'm not neurotypical so I guess take that with a grain of salt

cole ,
@cole@lemdro.id avatar

I think nothing has ever been enough of a hindrance to be selected out evolutionarily which is why non-neurotypical people exist. Just my head theory though

I'd be surprised if the headset even drew 65W, the other points notwithstanding

Copy-pasting this from a comment I made a few days ago. I’m so tired of this misconception. Google’s business model literally disincentivizes selling personal data. The business model is built on selling targeted advertisements. Google wants to keep this data to itself because it gives them a competitive advantage in the ad space.

Selling your data would give competitors power in the marketplace. So yes, Google collects data and uses it, but no, Google does not sell your data. It sells targeting BASED on your data.

Very different, regardless of if it is any better.
