Humans can have more complex emotions. We can be stressed about theoretical concepts that animals just are not equipped to understand. We can be excited by the prospect of future events.

Most animal emotions are immediate. They enjoy some food they eat, they find a nice warm spot to bask in, they see a predator and run away. Most animals lack the mental capacity to think beyond the immediate.

djsoren19 ,

It worked fine at the time, the problem is that all of that motivation to defend democracy was artificial, and slowly faded from the public as the war faded into the past.

djsoren19 ,

The flavor text teally sells this meme.

djsoren19 ,

They have been. The problem is twofold; Airbuses are limited in the U.S., and airlines have increased the rates on those tickets because I guess a working airplane is now considered a premium.

djsoren19 ,

A lot of them look legit, mostly because they are boring. I scanned a few, it's stuff like the air force's memo on how to deal with press, or a memo alleging a number of Russian cybersecurity attacks on U.S. assets.

If someone was going to fake releasing stuff like this, they probably wouldn't do it with such boring documents, they'd put some shit about aliens in there.

djsoren19 ,

Again, if it was propoganda I think it would be more incendiary. You're free to go through the information if you wish, and there probably are some juicy secrets somewhere in the mess of files, but my spotcheck made me yawn. If you don't want to live in a world with no truth, you have to start thinking about the intent of the author. If the intent of the author here was to plant misinformation, or to sow division, then they did a terrible job at it. What little I read gave me no interest in reading more.

djsoren19 ,

In regards to America's voting system, nothing has changed for nearly a century. We're just now starting to see support for ranked choice, but it will take a few decades of people pushing it constantly for it to go anywhere, and all of that time will have to be under a Democrat.

djsoren19 ,

The genocide started way, way before October 6th. October 6th was a reaction to increased aggression from Israeli settlers who had massively increased the amount of land they were stealing. The difference is that it was more subtle, so nobody cared, but if you forcibly remove everyone from their homeland it's still genocide.

Obviously I'm glad Americans are waking up to the realization that Israel is an apartheid state, but it's been true for decades. The fact that Biden has always been a Zionist was a huge red flag, but he was "the only person who could beat Trump" and now we're stuck here.

djsoren19 ,

I know it says 100% chance to die.

I'm still pushin it.

djsoren19 ,

I'd absolutely press it once, because if I'm unlucky enough to hit a 1% on the first press, I think I'd rather just be dead anyway. That kinda bad luck will kill you in some other way.

djsoren19 ,

Yeah the meme falls apart if you know comics, and understand that in most version, Peter Parker is a brilliant scientist/engineer on the same level as Tony Stark. Sometimes he even has a megacorp!

djsoren19 ,

They already come with two holes, you can't imagine adding a third?

djsoren19 ,

I'll do you one better, what is it about Palestine this time?

Israel's been getting away with genocide for decades, of course none of them see a problem with finishing the job now. What has suddenly changed such that the American public are finally able to realize the apartheid government they've been financially supporting all these years is actually evil?

djsoren19 ,

Nah he's great. He should take the rest of those brain worms, I think the worms should be in charge!

djsoren19 ,

...and it's not getting laid when it's FM?

djsoren19 ,

pfft, just dump all points into Luck, problems solved.

djsoren19 ,

It'll be interesting to see how this one plays out. In my head this argument is a little shaky, since it seems to be effectively arguing that Americans have the right to access foreign propoganda machines? There is legal precedent here, but the nature of propoganda has massively changed since the 60s.

This is going to be a very interesting court case that has broad reaching implications, but expect no Americans to give a shit because it's not going to feature a trash fire to gawk at.

djsoren19 ,

I'm aware of the precedent, but there's a pretty massive difference between being able to receive printed media, and being able to have continual access to post and contribute content to a foreign propoganda tool that uses an algorithm to purposefully suppress subjects the CCP disapproves of. I don't believe the precedent is going to be applicable here, but IANAL, and maybe ByteDance's lawyers think this defense will be a slam dunk.

djsoren19 ,

I can agree with that, but it becomes muddier when it's a social media platform where your participation on the platform lends it credibility. As an example, the Hong Kong protests were supressed on TikTok at the behest of the CCP. You could argue that by creating the content that ByteDance's algorithm used to bury the videos being posted on TikTok, regular unwitting Americans were assisting the CCP in covering up the protests.

It'll be on ByteDance to prove those kinds of concerns invalid, just as it will be the US' job to demonstrate the threat posed by TikTok to Americans.

djsoren19 ,

Sure, but if you tried to explain TikTok to the ruling judge on the 1965 case, I think their head would explode. The ruling isn't some all powerful precedent that shuts down the ban before the suit can begin, it's old and outdated. Something like TikTok was not even getting theorized at the time, you can't seriously expect it to be treated the same way.

djsoren19 ,

Propoganda does have a legal definition though, it's not nearly as nebulous as all biased information. It does need to be purposefully distorting, either by falsifying information or by withholding relevant information. It also needs to be produced by an organized group or government, just making up nonsense about yourself doesn't count.

djsoren19 ,

Yeah, except China has been committing a genocide and would gladly commit an atrocity on the scale of Israel x Palestine to Taiwan if the U.S. blinks.

Yes, the U.S. is evil as hell, and yet China is still worse. The U.S. doesn't have citizen reeducation camps, people don't get disappeared for talking out against dear leader. If you can't understand why giving an adversary like that unfettered access to people's minds is a security risk, I've no interest in arguing geopolitics with you.

djsoren19 ,

dunno if I would call going through a trauma arc "getting away with it." It's about the only time Luffy's faced any consequences.

djsoren19 ,

What do you want them to do, shout it from the rooftops so Spotify catches on? Some tools are better left quiet, so only people "in the know" use them.

djsoren19 ,

Well, guess I'm not watching Eurovision this year.

We're really just seeing in real time what happens when you let one Nazi into your bar huh? Turns out half the leaders in the West are Zionists who think genocide is okay, who would have guessed.

djsoren19 ,

Tbf, that's Oda's imagination doing overtime. Reed Richards never gets past the Gum-Gum Pistol stage, I think his power would be considered way cooler if he hit Dr. Doom with a Gum-Gum Elephant Gatling or busted out Snakeman. It's not just about making them a serious main character, mangaka seem a lot more inventive with utilizing the potential for powers than their Western counterparts.

djsoren19 ,

TikTok users are already in darkness, unless you think it's a happy coincidence that their algorithm suppresses anti-China views, support for Hong Kong, and support for Taiwan. Just because you can't notice you're being deceived doesn't mean you aren't.

djsoren19 ,

I'm very surprised by this. I'd figured ByteDance had a final trick up their sleeve, some unscrupulous billionaire like Bobby Kotick who they could technically "divest" to while maintaining functional independence. Either they're incredibly confident in their legal team, or they're betting on popular protest to overturn the government's decision in the next year. Unfortunately for them, there's a global crisis currently ongoing that is a liiiittle bit more important to protest, and they might have to wait awhile.

djsoren19 ,

That's fair. The reasoning is sound, I can certainly understand ByteDance's intention to keep the details of their algorithm a secret no matter what, but it's always a good idea to take any leak with a grain of salt.

djsoren19 ,

This is two back to back huge wins for Biden, and honestly for all people who understand that corporate regulation is the only way we're crawling out of our boring dystopia. Killing non-competes AND restoring net neutrality in the same week is massive for Americans.

djsoren19 ,

Thanks for the diligence, but it was honestly unnecessary. You could have just said that it was an American media organization reporting on pop science, and I'd have known it was riddled with inaccuracies and errors. It's a real shame that journalists aren't interested in accurate reporting of science, but then again the public isn't interested in hearing accurate reports either.

djsoren19 ,

Look, if your friends don't think the bourgeoise deserve to choke on the money they've stolen from the proletariats' pockets, they're not your friends.

djsoren19 ,

Is anyone seriously surprised? What Unity did was tantamount to business suicide, but these things move slowly. Expect to see more and more out of Godot in the coming months, as projects that were nascent when Unity tried their greedy power play will finally start to get teased.

djsoren19 ,

I would honestly rather they play any other hotter furbait card. If OP's allowed Stasis I want Crucible of World and Strip Mine.

djsoren19 ,

The horniest card game more complicated than MTG!

djsoren19 ,

This really shouldn't be such a controversial take. Every side of this conflict fucking sucks, and they've all sucked for decades. Israel sucks for electing a fascist, Palestine sucks due to being religious fundamentalists, the U.S. sucks for doing all this in the first place and building Israel up as a superpower in the region, and all the surrounding Middle Eastern powers suck because they claim a Free Palestine is a priority while doing fuck-all to support it. Even if a miracle ceasefire is called, there is no geopolitical will for a Free Palestine, so Israel will just do this again in 10 years once their stockpiles are replenished.

djsoren19 ,

EA has been shitty nearly forever, even when every game started with "Its in the game!" You probably just didn't realize it because you were a kid, but they've been hacking out shitty games and shuttering great studios for decades. They were never a mark of quality, they were the mark on the games you could find in the bargain bin at Walmart.

djsoren19 ,

Hilariously, getting better for both of them. Pathfinder has a lot of third party developers already, and gained some after the big D&D debacle when Wizards tried to update the OGL and kill third-party. Linux is still slow going, especially on the gaming side, but a number of FOSS companies and Valve have done a lot of work to legitimize Linux as a personal computing platform.

djsoren19 ,

The FTC has at least been going after companies again, but their targeting priorities seem very strange. They seem to like picking impossible fights they can't win, rather than cases like these.

djsoren19 ,

It would show your ability to frame, your linework, depending on the scene your ability to demonstrate action...

It sounds like you have literally no concept of how animation works at an enterprise level. It often is several different people working on individual scenes that are then stitched together at the end.

djsoren19 ,

So don't use water? I mean, don't use water in basically any situation regarding a fire anyway, it's a last resort, but if you don't have a fire extinguisher in your home you're asking for trouble eventually.

djsoren19 ,

It's the outfit. Her proportions aren't that insane, but she has like a playboy bunny suit drawn on the front.

Edit: to clarify, I only mean her chest proportions. Her legs are comically long.

djsoren19 ,

Nah, if anything talk to plant is pretty weak. Poison Ivy can control plants, which is significantly stronger. Control plants let's you force them to grow big and grapple people, or produce particular toxins in people's faces, etc. Talk to plants lets you ask plants very politely to do something, but they are still just normal plants, and can just say no.

djsoren19 ,

Don't worry, all the quotes work for Apple too. You can always hate both.

djsoren19 ,

It's not false, but it is exactly the same kinda bullshit that tobacco always uses. Science fundamentally cannot establish a causal relationship between social media usage and depression, because the experiment to do so would be unethical. You can't knowingly force people to use social media in the hope that they gain depression, but academically speaking that is the only way to prove a causal relationship.

Yes, we have lots and lots of evidence indicating a strong correlation between the two, certainly enough to legislate and certainly enough to casually discuss it as a given, but the bar for something to be considered proven in science is a much higher bar. Slimy ratfuckers like the Zucker love abusing that higher bar.

djsoren19 ,

Nah, if your stomach is acidic enough you can feel it. I finally caved and got a plush incline so that gravity keeps the bile down regardless of which side I sleep on, and I still usually favor sleeping on my left due to habits from before.
